Not much to say. Despite handing Baltimore tons of points, the Niners still had the opportunity to win this game. Unfortunately, the play calling got weird on that last drive. And the drive before it. And on the 2 pt conversion. We never used the fade all year. Then we use it to no success 5 times in the red zone. Weird.

I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

The play Gore scored his TD on was beautifully designed and executed to perfection. Best executed play of the game by either team. Why the Niners didn’t try that one again is beyond me. Gore has been on a touchdown tear of late and was the man to go to. Really disappointing he didn’t get one touch on that first-and-goal situation.
The 49ers’ play after the outage showed exactly how much faster and more talented than the Ravens they are. Ray Lewis looked like an old fart on several plays. Kaepernick shredded them with his arm and his legs, showing exactly how explosive this offense can how be moving forward. Imagine if they actually had more than one receiver. The main question for me is why the hell they came out so flat for 3 straight games. They play halfway decent in the first half and they walk away with the game.
Best hit of the day: Delanie Walker annihilating Ed Reed on Gore’s TD. Time for old man Ed to retire as well.

Uh, VD doesn’t count? In fact, the over reliance on Crabs hurt them more than any play calling did on the fateful final series . Almost everyone is trashing Roman- and it ain’t on Greg. They ran on first down. Kap was running on second down but took too long and a TO was called to avoid the delay penalty. The 4th down play was a run/pass option that Kap audibled out of. The original calls from the sideline balanced Kaps strengths- a straight run call, a pass, and run/pass option.
Of course VD counts; I’m not sure where I indicated he doesn’t. It sure would be nice to have a couple of speedy wideouts with good hands. I think you’re right, though, with the Ravens likely targeting Crab, VD would have been a great option. Get him isolated on one of those slow LB’s and you might just get the TD. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.
Culliver was exposed in different ways this year. Early on, teams noticed he didn’t turn for the ball in flight, and he was thus beat on corner fades even though he was in position. He got better at TRYING to track the ball, but then had problems with his footwork and positioning. I thought he’d be a good FS candidate, but we’ll see. I don;t think the Niners bail on him, maily becasuse there aren’t a lot of guys to choose from as the team stands. Brown has really been pretty damn good. Rogers regressed some. Whitner regressed badly. Goldson is Goldson. But he regressed a lot as well. He is NOT getting a deal from us. Unless he goes with the 3/25 we offered him 3 years ago.
I don;t know tooo too much about the draft, but there ARE a lot of DBs and DLs in the mix. I’d like to think they can pull a good corner out of it, evenif they have to trade up. The guy I still dig at WR is SLO’s Ramses Barden on the Giants. Dude’s 6’5″ 230. He’s 2nd-3rd string, but he’d be perfect in the red zone for the Niners
Note: no one wishes Alex Smith would get the fuck out of here more than I do. I go back and forth on whether he’s been a class teammate or a world class pussy who enjoys abuse and disrespect. Just infuriating. I was watching ESPN last night and they showed the 2nd down play on the goal line, and when Walker went out for a pass, the safety wrapped both his arms around him and held him in a bear hug. Crabs was held as well on the play. Kappy MAY have been able to hit VD on that route, but didn’t see him. It would have had to have been very quick out of the sprint right, No flag. Fucking joke. You don’t want it to come down to penalties, but they completlely let shit go that they shouldn’t have. And on the KO return, I mastakenly thought is was Walker held by TWO Ravens. It was Miller.
Wonder if NoFear haas the All Access thing. i’d like to see if he thinks VD coulda been thrown to.

There were calls that were wrong both ways- they missed a flagrant hold by Culliver early, Akers flopped on the roughing call, a flagrant out of bounds hit on Flacco.
And there was a bit on ESPN on 4th quarter penalties in the last two minutes in the postseason for interference or holding receivers. According to the report, 3 such penalties have been called in the last 110 post season games.
More than anything we lost by playing like shit early, and the Raven’s pressure on the final series inside their 10. The blitz on the final play would have blown up any play. To me the biggest fuck up on the final series was not using the final TO before 4th down. And in any case- you don’t leave the final 4 calls to the OC and you can bet that Harbaugh didn’t- it would be totally lame for Jimbo, an offensive genius, to put the fate of their SB chances on Roman and a kid QB. Whatever went down coaching wise in that last series, good and bad, is on the HC. IMHFO.

I’d guess they’d have hung 45-50 points on the Ravens. With Kaepernick in there, this offense has transformed from a mostly conservative affair to flat out explosive. The Ravens were on their heels after the outage and exposed for the slow aging team they are.
I’m tired of the complaints about the refs. They did the best they could given the circumstances.
Matt Elam S from Florida is a hard-hitting ball hawk,Goldson may not be back,he’s owed 8 milion or Whitner? mark,he gave up the most TD passes.of any Safety this year,even though he.made the Pro Bowl,he’s slowing down.They could save money and.go younger.
Alleykat I like Elam also but….He’s about the same size as Whitner.
Good hitter, always around the ball, just a little short IMO.
I’m starting to think about Drafting a taller, more competent FS and having Goldson slide more toward the SS role.
Whitner is a good Captain back there but rarely finds a pass in time.
David Amerson, Eric Reid, and Shawn Williams are guys I’m paying attention to in the FS slot right now.
Amerson is playing CB at NC St but was a FS that was moved.
He’s the tallest of the 3 and has nice numbers. Much better in coverage than Goldson or Whitner.
See where we go, April is a long way off.

He’s coming out as a Jr, still young, very competitive.
tackles and has good supporting numbers in PBU and INTs.

I can’t verify it,cause i didnt DVR the game,but people were saying Bruce Miller was horse-collared and held on Jacoby Ford’s 108 yard return as well,right in plain view of a ref.
There were non-calls both ways. Get over it. This was not on the refs. Jimbo’s whining detracted from the great efforts his players made in spite of piss poor coaching Sunday. I’ve criticized CK and I’ve praised him- he made plenty of mistakes Sunday- but when it got down to that 4th down play-he got zero help from the bench- where a TO should have been called- Colin put it on himself. It didn’t work out, the pressure was too fierce. But he and his teammates were better than the bosses on Sunday. A lot better.

Yeah, AK, 2 guys were holding Miller. As in one on either side of him, both bear hugging him. it couldn’t have been much more blatant.
Really, though, without the holding Crabs makes the catch. So it was a good move on Balt’s part.
It really springs to mind the ticky tacky calls that fucked up the 1983 NFC championship game. In that one they were called. In this one, they weren’t.
Watch Miller after Jacoby got past him Chuck.

Problem there was lane discipline and poor tackling angles.

Well, at least no one is talking about David Akers.
Some said the SB would be “close”, others said “high scoring”. What we got was both high scoring and close. No one picked the Ravens. Who among us called for both (but not a Niner loss of course)? Who was ‘less wrong’? Here’s my candidates for least wrong:
-Gropo: I felt real good about the 49er’s until Cullivergate. I still think it’s SF but closer. 31-28. (Phil: This is the best wrong call in my opinion). Followed by:
-snarkk: SF 31, Balt 30.
– Grumpy Guy: 28-27, 49ers. I’ll make my call now – a very close game, but we’ll squeak through. 28-27, 49ers.
-Nipper: Niners will take another one 35-31. They will not need Akers.
Harbaugh had the team too tight and it took a long delay for them to relax and play well. As the playoffs went on the Niners played tighter and tighter. Compounded with our defects in ST, RZ, 3rd down and secondary it was too much to overcome. I’m disappointed but not really surprised or discouraged. 3rd times a charm.
Some things I think I think…..That season was a heck of a ride, sign me up for another…..Ravens got the better end of the refs calls/non calls all of which amounts to a hill of beans….Giving Harbaugh a hard time for his sideline tantrums is nitpicking the best coach over the last 2 years bar none you ingrates….Let Alex Smith go, trade if possible…..Draft or free agent pick up of another top notch DT to rotate, ditto OLB preferably with pass rush skills….sign Goldson, even with his warts he is top 5 at the position….Dump Whitner…Dump Moss….Dump Ginn….Draft a stud NT….This team was a whisker away, appreciate that fact…Colin Kaepernick is a star player with a chance to be the best there is….

I don’t consider complaining about Harbaugh’s childish tantrums on the sidelines over damn near every call on the field nitpicking. It’s an embarrassment and a bad example to set for the players besides being a major distraction.
Could be less of the completely ineffective hootin’ and hollerin’ at the officials would have meant more time and focus spent on the slightly more important coaching elements of winning the freakin’ Super Bowl. Like situational awareness, strategizing better plays for the conditions, and clock management.

The rally after the lights came back on was nice but we lost the game in the uninspired play before that. When the fights broke out after the interception I figured even the players had given up. And I don’t think they found much of a cool collected leader to restore their confidence in the guy doing the big baby act on the sidelines.
Brother Harbaugh and Pees prepared their guys and a good strategy for us and it was evident on the field. We looked terribly overmatched in the first 30 minutes and Jones returning the second half opening kick-off was crushing. Luckily the Superdome’s power equipment wasn’t so super. The outage did what the coaches couldn’t.
John is giving all praise to Jim and Jim is scapegoating the refs and thereby dissing the effort of John and his team. Jim’s brand of sportsmanship is kinda sad.
Yep, too damned hard to get there and not give 100%. Players and coaches. Maybe it was too easy for some to fully appreciate their part in the history. I don’t care much about the first SB loss or first SB INT (although I was pretty happy about never having lost one) but more about getting there and playing the first half like it was the pro bowl instead.
