Why Didn’t They Think of This Earlier?

Quoting the interwwebs today, “If Trent Williams is on the roster on September 1, 2027 and does not hold out or miss any offseason time he will earn an $11.5 million roster bonus in 2028 that will be fully guaranteed if earned.” Plus, his deal gives the 49ers a lot of wiggle room down the line. As of now, the 49ers have the most cap space at $71 million and change.

If they had thought of this about 6 years ago, they would have avoided a shit-ton of hold-outs, hold-ins, and crap seasons by a bunch of players. Oh well. Better late than never. Still think this team needs more O line help. Hopefully some guys fall off teams via salary cap problems. We will see.

As for the Giants, yeah, one good game followed by 5 shit ones. Webbie is apparently dealing with a knee problem, so the Giants crack medical team is following the 49ers mantra of “play ’em till they break.” It would seem like a good idea to give Web a rest, but likely not. Hey, they could win the SD series today, but alas, they got Dookie Houser going, so we likely lose 8-2. I mean, it’s not like a guy they JUST sent down is any better (T Mickey D).

Come the actual fuck on guys.

I would love to see us pickup more line help for both sides and not more camp fodder. One of the older sayings ‘you get what you pay for’ is mostly true in the NFL. But now and then you get an Aiyuk.

  2. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Anyone other than Campaneris and Cesar Tovar play all 9 positions in a game? seems to me there was but can’t recall it. Nice grab by Rodriguez out there in RF.

  3. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Susac batting .478 and Rodriguez batting .429. Hmm, I wonder if Bailey told his wife, Leigha, “Call that realtor about selling our house.”

  4. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Pfffttt! No doubter on that one.

    . . . Fair too.

  5. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Dookie Hoser decides well Sheets blasts on foul into the cove so he can’t hit another one fair?

WRONG very next cookie fastball goes into the bay fair even farther then the 1st one gawd this guy stinks bring back McDonald permanently I’m sick of this chump..

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Nice of Dookie to give Sheets a 2nd chance to hit one out of the park.

    Jesus.

  7. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Best play I’ve seen Ramos make in quite some time.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

There’s Devers’ home run for May.

  9. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Think I remember 2 Detroit Tigers players Shane Halter&Andrew Rommine (sp?) playing all 9 positions in different seasons..

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Close but not quite. Wow. This team is just sad.

  11. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Well we discovered Rodriguez can’t play the outfield that was a can of corn he muffed which would of been the 3rd out instead 2Runs..

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Making dinner for my daughter and I. AK, missed that play, wonder why the scorer didn’t give him an error?

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

They should have definitely a gift.It was somewhat a tough play, he had to run along way towards the line but got there he just let it glanced off his glove. He played some games at Sac in LF but of course the Giants put him in RF the toughest OF spot? Still the kids bat plays so keep him in there somewhere but RF ??

  12. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Rodriguez has apparently never played or almost never played, right field. So, of course they put him out there and the ball finds him in the worst situation possible. Probably will cost them the game since the Giants likely won’t score again instead the Pads Pen. Devers finally with a jack, solo of course. Doogie pitched well, but when your team doesnt score hardly at all, that’s required these days.

Giants have the worst scoring differential in the NL at -38 as they came into today’s game. Chapman might as well just swing at the first 3 pitches he sees and either get a hit or more likely, go down blazin’. Gawd , he is awful at the plate. 5 more years of him? …

  13. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

And Ballgame courtesy of not Saving Private Ryan !Damm you Walker!!

  14. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

After that bomb, might as well go to the “Speedee Oil commercial . . .” and “Folks, you all drive carefully home” schtick.

  15. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

OK, this is Walker’s 8th inning.

Walk, wild pitch, fly out, 2 run jack, walk, fly out, single, stolen base, fly out to end inning. This is your 8th inning guy?

Walker is either going to develop a mysterious elbow / shoulder injury and go on IL after this game, or be DFA’d. Why is he even allowed to pitch late in a close game? Insane…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Snarkk, probably because he’s the best we have, which is a sad commentary about how far our pitching has fallen this season.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

It has to be demoralizing to be position players to watch this dude come in– they have to expect a S show about to happen. He must be mentally fried. His statistics are too horrible to mention.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Who amongs us didn’t see this pitching disaster coming like a speedballing freight train?

Fucking DFA Walker. DFA Bofucki. DFA Dookie. Chappue and Bailey are on thin ice. Buster needs to just pull a Houston and tank for 3 years and get some solid picks.

This team is a flaming dumpster.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

I don’t think we have to try to tank. Pretty sure we are gonna get there on our own. The only problem is no matter where we draft we are just no good at it.

  17. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

AK is right about those 2 players, both played all 9 positions in a game.

  18. Winder's avatar Winder says:

We just suck on many levels right now

  19. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

GNo AB today with RISP. No walks. 3 hits only. Only 2 runners left on. 13Ks.

Yep, this team is a disaster. 9 under .500 now?

Sorry to say to the army of clueless Giants fans that continue to spend their money watching this debacle, but the team should just now bring everybody up with half a clue at bat and see who the players are.

IMO the triumvirate of Chapman, Devers and Adames is more than anything else killing this season. Those guys are all on Buster, as is the pitching staff that held up for about a month, but now appears to be cratering.

Barring a miracle, it’s going to be very looooooong season at Oracle…

  20. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

You know things are not going well for you, when a guy named Waldron (12 runs allowed and 16 hits in his last start) pitches 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits, and 1 run, while striking out 7, and walking no one.

  21. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I’m waiting to see how long it is before Kruk and / or Kuip state the obvious and say this season is basically over with respect to post-season chances. They do not fess up on the radio and rip the hitting/scoring, which is the elephant in the room. Every oppo pitcher is Tom Seaver or Steve Carlton…

  22. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I laugh when the announcers say the Giants need to have “a stopper” pitch the next game to stop the bleeding. huh? The Giants pitchers need to fire a shutout or 1-run game basically every game in order to win.

  23. bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy says:

“Come the actual fuck on guys”

yeah, that says it all. Damn, this team stinks .. Whatta freakin stench! .. Reeks to High/Heaven!

they need to fire someone, immediately; not that it will change anything. But let’s do it! “Come the actual fuck on guys” we can start with the low hangin’ fruit .. how about that 3rd bass coach?

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

      “low hangin’ fruit”

      That’s all of them BB . . .

      • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy says:

”Like berries on the vine, it gets sweeter all the time”

I Love the Giants, but my current hatred of this year’s iteration is unsurpassed. I thought we couldn’t sink any lower than last year … sheesh! Was I ever wrong about that!

  24. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

The team is stuck in an uncomfortable place right now. It’s been said the owners aren’t willing to spend enough (current starting rotation an example of that), but they *have* spent probably more than they wanted to on Chapman and Adames, and taking on Rafi’s salary, and they look at the numbers those 3 are not putting up and they say, screw it, not spending more if that’s how it’s going to go. One way out of the current mess is a couple of big ballsy trades, which Buster has shown he can do, but that would probably require eating much of those high salaries for Chappie and Adames, which, if the owners don’t want to spend, they’re certainly not going to want to eat. I really don’t know what they should do, but I’m voting for some ballsy trades. Really shake it up, man…

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Agree they have to shake it up somehow. If the owners are hesitant to put up more cash because of some weak prior deals then they probably shouldn’t be in this business. My worry is our minor leagues, I think they really have to shake up the scouting and player development department before they do much else.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Teams like the A’s, Cleveland, Kansas City, etc, always come up with productive players. Even Pittsburg has found success.

  25. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Chapman is 0-24, and his costly error got things started in wrong direction yesterday. He’d be most easily moved of the Big 3 that are dragging down offense. He does have NTC but I imagine he’d waive it go to any near contending team and get the F outta here.

Ray as well; wonder if Posey would wait til deadline to move him.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Agree with this premise . . . Not certain whom it will be, but yeah, I see this happening with 1-2 of our big contracts.

  26. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

I am hoping (but obviously not counting on) it will be something like what the Red Sox did in 2012, where they shed 4 high priced player contracts (Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, and Nick Punto). Of course, that trade was with the Bums, whom we NEVER trade with. Crawford and Gonzalez were the ones with massive long-term deals, while Beckett was a highly paid veteran, and Punto was thrown in the package.

Result? The trade immediately cleared hundreds of millions in salary, allowing the Red Sox to restructure their roster, leading to a World Series championship in 2013.

Nope . . . Not expecting a championship to happen a la Red Sox. Remember, we’re talking about the Gmen. Ha.

  27. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    Just heard this amazing stat.

Giants have the lowest combined HR and walks total at this point in the season of any MLB team since the 1930 White Sox…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

      That stat intrigued me.

So, I looked up the 1930 Pale Hose. They ended the season in 7th place in an 8-team AL. 62-92 record. Hopefully this Giants team can get into at least the 70s in the Win column…

  28. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

It’s a nice quiet off day at China Basin. The front office poombahs and geeks are hunkered down, running numbers and matchups and probabilities, looking for the perfect elixir that will turn things around. Giants Fandom eagerly awaits the results of said hunkering. Big trades and releases coming! Soon! ………. Right…..

  29. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Pirates are improved over last couple years. They’ve won 21 games already and scored 181 runs, 5th best NL. giants will miss Skenes who pitched Wednesday, but seem capable of turning anyone into next ace. Hopefully Arraez back to full strength.

  30. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah Willied the Pirates are no longer the whipping boys anymore unlike the Giants.Matter of fact the whole National League Central teams are all over .500 the strongest division in baseball, how quickly things can change in baseball from year to year..
