Oh, O Line, Where Art Thou?

Stop me if you’ve heard this before but this team is once again going with backups, retreads, and late-round fliers to keep Brock Purdy upright. They have signed:

  • Backup C/G Brett Toth
  • Backup LT Vederian Lowe

They drafted:

  • Guard C Willis in the 4th round
  • Tackle E Cruz in the5th round

T Williams, Puni, McKivitz, and (urk) Brendel are starting. They have late round guys in Colby, Nugent, and Zakelj, failed tackle broken-neck UDFA Robert jones, and no-name guys Parker and Alarcon.

We have depth I guess, but Brendel is not the answer at center and we have a bunch of stiffs fighting for the LG spot.

It’s infuriating to me to see statues like Sourdough Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford afforded 4-5 seconds to pick apart defenses while Brock Purdy runs for his life on 80% of our pass plays. The ONLY reason our sack totals were low is from Purdy’s escapability.

And far as the Giants go, I’m suffering with all you flap orphans. This team is as exciting as a wet blanket. I guess Buster really doesn’t have a budget to work with? I mean how could anyone in their right mind say this team was built to win with that pitching staff?

Funny thing is, the pitching, minus Dookie Houseturd, Bofucki, and “I got my shit together” Walker has been OK. The hitting is catastrophically bad. Esp this last roadie.

At least they called up Eldridge.

It was those purple uniforms’ fault…

blade, your buddy Kurtenbach, the negative sports writer, talking on KNBR tonight IMO had an interesting observation about Webb.

For the 2023 through 2025 seasons, he had been, by far, the biggest beneficiary in all MLB of called strikes on pitches actually outside the zone. By a wide margin from the second most every year, like around 25% more. No doubt a beneficiary of Bailey’s framing, among other things including his pitch shaping.

Now with ABS in place, he is not among the leaders in called strikes outside the zone. His rate of first pitch called strikes is way down, so he’s starting out ABs with negative count leverage a lot more than in his multi-year success period. He’s throwing more pitches than before to get the same number of outs. I thought that was an observation that may explain a lot about why Webb’s game looks diminished…

That game started way to late for me to keep up and I guess it was better to just get some sleep. And, I would not trade Susac, Rodriguez, or Bailey. I would keep anyone who can actually hit for average we can find a way to keep em in the lineup. Read an article this morning that some baseball people have already given up on the Giants this year and I kinda got to agree with em. So for me with no real expectations I will enjoy the good times when they come

I thought his velocity was down.

As Paul mentioned earlier, Webb said he does have “some discomfort” in one of his knees. Just looking at B/R nearly all his numbers are worse (fewer Ks more BBs more hard hit, BA slugging WHIP) than just about any time since 2020 when he sucked. Maybe getting ready for WBC? idk but maybe he does need IL stint to get right. He’s not 5.00 ERA guy.

He’s been around long enough to lose some velocity and should probably fine tune his off speed stuff. I wonder how Maddux would have done with the ABS.

Just went to the Giants site and it does state Webb has some Knee issues. I know he rarely throws his 4-seemer, but maybe he could tweak his slider, and sinker a bit because he’s still every bit a gamer.
