Stop me if you’ve heard this before but this team is once again going with backups, retreads, and late-round fliers to keep Brock Purdy upright. They have signed:
- Backup C/G Brett Toth
- Backup LT Vederian Lowe
They drafted:
- Guard C Willis in the 4th round
- Tackle E Cruz in the5th round
T Williams, Puni, McKivitz, and (urk) Brendel are starting. They have late round guys in Colby, Nugent, and Zakelj, failed tackle broken-neck UDFA Robert jones, and no-name guys Parker and Alarcon.
We have depth I guess, but Brendel is not the answer at center and we have a bunch of stiffs fighting for the LG spot.
It’s infuriating to me to see statues like Sourdough Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford afforded 4-5 seconds to pick apart defenses while Brock Purdy runs for his life on 80% of our pass plays. The ONLY reason our sack totals were low is from Purdy’s escapability.
And far as the Giants go, I’m suffering with all you flap orphans. This team is as exciting as a wet blanket. I guess Buster really doesn’t have a budget to work with? I mean how could anyone in their right mind say this team was built to win with that pitching staff?
Funny thing is, the pitching, minus Dookie Houseturd, Bofucki, and “I got my shit together” Walker has been OK. The hitting is catastrophically bad. Esp this last roadie.
At least they called up Eldridge.

Sign of progress in learning curve for Vitello I guess. Last time Giants faced Buehler March 30, Adames was leading off–bats 7th tonight. Schmitt drove in run that proved to be difference maker from bottom of the order, tonight he hits 2nd.
And in that previous game Walker began 9th with 3-0 lead, walked first batter Cronenworth then gave up 2 run bomb to Merrill (who kills us) before closing it out. Fortunately he was nowhere to be seen after McD left last night.
Eldridge and Rodriguez back in there tonight as well, with Arraez getting night off…though if necessary can be used off bench as PH.
Willie, I would imagine that Arraez did NOT want a night off. This is how good he has been . . . There is a Statcast-measured Outs Above Average (OAS), which aims to calculate how many more outs a defender has made than an average player at his position would have. Right now, Arraez sits at #1 for players at all positions with eight OAA, just ahead of reigning Gold Glovers Pete Crow-Armstrong, Bobby Witt Jr., and Nico Hoerner, see link below:

His OAA at second base had been zero or below every year prior, and totaled -36 for his career before the season began. An improvement of this magnitude is nearly unprecedented for a player in his age-29 season, and is doubly impressive given that Arraez was primarily a first baseman last year and changed to a more difficult defensive position. He has played error-free defense despite his improved range, maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while tallying the third-most assists and second-most double plays turned of any second baseman.
On that OAA leaderboard, third baseman Matt Chapman is the only other Giant in the top 100, checking in at 39th. WOW! Indicative of not only how good he has been, but how bad the rest of the Giants have been defensively. Tip of my hat to him and Buster for signing him . . . He’s been one of the few bargains on this team.
yes he’s been fantastic defensively, wonderful surprise. A guy in TA who saw him when he was with Twins (and less accomplished in field) wondered if his knee problems from before have been solved. He runs bases well too.
Only his 2nd game off and like I said he coud get into this one too.

Giants with 8 hits, 5 runs, Webb pitching – that’s usually a win every day and twice on Sunday. So yes, I am worried about him, but the saving grace is that he is a winner and he has a good chance of figuring it out/adjusting going forward.
One thing lacking (again) with our hitters is 0 walks. That’s not good.
