Game Day . . . We’re In Bat Country

In the inexorable death march to whatever this offseason purge portends, we have reached the mid-point of the season in worse shape than last year. Huh? How is that possible? Why? Well, a steadily dwindling pool of talented players is the biggest reason. Throw in injuries to what few good players we have, a revolving door approach to coaching hires, and lack of attention to the offense for the past 6 drafts, and the slide continues.

I have no idea what happens at the end, but if the results are going to continue on the current trend, what is there to do? 8 more losses and we’ve done the impossible and made Jimmy T look like, well, Monte Clark. Instead of himself, which is how the front office portrayed him  as they tossed him aside. As if they weren’t the ones that hired him in the first place. Granted, Adam Gase, Hue Jackson, Jim Harbaugh, or God himself couldn’t win with this collection of 2nd and 3rd stringers.

So my hope is for fly-bys, protests,  and more and more bags . . .

It really is tough to be in the position that we are in. Being a life-long Niner fan it’s hard for me to hope we lose but at this point that’s what I am doing. Major changes need to take place and it starts at the top. I still don’t understand how Jed can be so blind as not to see what needs to be done. My hope is we fire them all and start over with some qualified FO personnel.

Somebody should be fired after today. Bank on it. If they lose ugly again changes will occur. Keep the fly-bys coming and of course bag it big time! Fans should kick the Yorks and their pathetic FO in the rears hard!

    Interesting take from Mike Nolan.
He suggests it was Baalke who promoted Tomsula too.
Gotta ask if that was directly related to Gase leaving them high and dry with his request to retain Fangio?

  29. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

NO kicks a three to end this half. Well at least there was some offense 31-20.

  30. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

  44. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    • 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

7 consecutive 100 yd rushers is an NFL record, look no further for why this team is on a 7 game losing streak, its no coincidence.

  45. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hard to believe Kappy has thrown for 16 more yards than Brees.

  46. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Where has this passing game been?

But NO has rushed for 238. To 93.

  48. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Rams lose.

    And another turnover.

Another 2nd half that nets 3 points.

Yet, they should have scored on the opening drive in the 3rd to close the game to 31-28.

Kappy nearly hits 400 and yaaaawwwwn, another desultory loss.

  49. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

80 fucking offensive plays for NO. Just enough stupid mistakes to let another one fly away without too much fuss.

Looks like Trump is flooding the airwaves with ads. Hope his trial for raping a 13 year old girl goes well. As in 20 years. As does the other 73 pending lawsuits against him.

    • 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

With this D giving up NFL historically bad running game plays the Niners O has to score more points. As we know Gabbert can’t do it and I think it’s clear Kap can’t either, spurts of good play won’t get it done and his same faults are fully on display. I think they have to get Ponder on the field to at least evaluate him, Kap and Gabbert are likely gone next year anyway and this season is lost.
The other thing they should do is fire the DC on Monday. They had 2 weeks to make a difference and didn’t and if they don’t do something they will lose faith with the players as well as the fans.

  50. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Holding firmly to the 2nd Pick in April if nothing else.

    In conclusion a massive BLEEP!

  52. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

NO ran to their right unimpeded all day. Unreal that we are this inept at basic run stopping.

At least the Raiders are playing a meaningful game. We get to see if they are pretenders or contenders. The Durs have been playing like shit at home so this should be interesting. Denver is eminently beatable, but the Raiders have to propensity of shitting themselves when given the task of proving themselves.

  53. 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

Kelly says O’Neil is safe, no changes to coaching staff or the 53. It’s true there is not much they can do with the players side of the equation but IMO O’Neil has not been able to scheme sufficiently. Leaving the CB’s on man coverage means they have their backs to the ball or more accurately the ball carriers in the case of a screen or delayed hand off.

  54. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Kelly probably is looking into a nice college job about now……. quietly of course. No sense in firing anyone in his mind……..it’s the kiss of death for the HC.

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Just tell the public the team is improving and the staff is working hard to improve the player’s performances. All lies of course but it usually keeps the raging public at bay…..buying time.

  55. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

C’mon, O’Neil moved up to the booth today.
Better view of how horrendous his scheme is performing.
Heckuva way to come back off the BYE.
Offense is still killing the Defense on TOP too.
Kept our tidy 3pts of Offense in the 2nd Half intact too.
    Consistency if nothing else.

  56. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We drove the length of the field and fumbled on the 1 to open the 3rd quarter. Not sure how much that changes the game but 3 2nd half turnovers hurt. 31-27.

This team can’t afford to make the constant mistakes it does. Kaepernick wasn’t the issue today but it really doesn’t matter. You can’t win with this defense.

  57. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Just waiting if the Raiders go soft now.

Just hope we don’t do something stupid, like winning a couple of games, to screw up a Top 3 Pick.

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Haven’t seen the game yet but, from a stats standpoint, it would seem Kaep found some success in the passing game.
But, as we know, stats can be deceiving.

      • 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

Kap went 0-7 at one stage in the second half and half his yards were RAC from short dump offs. PFF gave Brees an 82 and Kap a 40.
He was better but not good.

  59. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Memo from Jed to the peanut vendor…….”You’re Fired!”

  60. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Kaep was decent. Nothing more. He made a dumb mistake not looking off the LB on the pick. It was an easy read for the LB to jump the route. He made some nice downfield throws as Patton actually got open a few times. Think he got over 100 yards. T Smith flattened his route too early on a 3rd and 6, and let the DB tackled him short of the 1st down whe he had room to get the 1st down. Stupid play there.

Kaep did go ice cold in the late 3rd quarter. Killed 2 drives, but Davis fumbled on the 1 yard line killing our best 3rd quarter drive of the season. Harris fumbled, and Kaep fumbled as well.

We pulled out usual 2nd half disappearing act. 3 points.

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Levi’s should be shut down and mothballed by NFL for play not up to NFL standards. May as well make it a dog racing field. At least that would be decent entertainment. Or bring in some dirt bikes and a ton of soil and forget the turf once and for all. Football played in Santa Clara should not be allowed.

  61. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Winder, you were right and I was wrong, the Niners are worse this year than last. Amazing.

  62. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

If wishes were fishes, then I’d like to see:

    a) Mark Davis decides not to move to Vegas and instead moves to Santa Clara

    b) Jed sells the team to Steve Young and Brent Jones, and they pass a deal to a build a stadium in SF.

  63. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I wrote after week 3 or 4 that we could be a worse team than last year. I was ridiculed. There was no need to bring it up again with people who were just going to let me know I was wrong. Now you folks are saying it. Now it seems to be the thing to say. I’m not trying to say I told you so, I’m trying to explain that I saw the bad coaching then and keep seeing it. This team has enough talent to win 8 to 9 games but does not have the coaching.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

When I saw how we were using our D-line I knew we were screwed. To have the talent we have up front and completely misuse them is something that makes me feel one does not need to be a good coach to be an NFL coach, you just need experience and a connection. Watching Chip run the Counter Trey with no back side protection tells me he is not ready for the pros. Watching our receivers never getting YAC with any consistency until this last game tells me our play caller does not know how to design plays which lends to being out coached when in game adjustments need to be made. It’s my opinion that our talent is much better than our coaching.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Having said the above, our talent is not great but it is at least average. What does that say about our coaching. We do have a huge hole up the middle of our defense, NT and ILB. That is tough to coach but a good coach would use his talented D-line to cause havoc instead of being timid. IOW, try to create some turnovers. This coaching staff is hard to watch. NJ used to say about Robaugh’s offense, we are playing checkers and they are playing chess. That saying applies here to our O and D coaches.

  64. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

    Watched the game today.
    2 things jumped out.
Kaep still gets frantic when his first target isn’t open. Muscles/rushes too many throws as a result.
Batted balls late in the game in the Red Zone. He’s staring down targets and, has done it since he arrived with Harbaugh.
Smartest thing I think I’ve ever seen outside of a Belichick Coached Team?
Chip instructing the DBs to mug the Receivers in the Red Zone to force a NOLA FG.

In general, Kaep’s numbers were way inflated.
Sure, every QB in this game takes the benefits from a short pass that goes long.
What hasn’t changed is his efficiency between the hashes.
He can talk of ‘getting more comfortable’ in the System but, he’s just not poised enough to command the Offense comfortably when he’s asked to stand tall in the Pocket and make throws into tight windows.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I’d like to say our play design was better but NO has a bad defense. I’d need to see it again to think the coach has a clue. Kap looked better but there is no excuse for our QBs not looking good for the time they are getting to throw this year. If Ponder can’t get in over Gabbert and Kap then either our coaches can’t evaluate very well or Ponder really sucks.

  65. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

This isn’t about who’s better, Bergs. It’s about who gives them the least ability to lose by 40. Don’t know who you are referring to about being ridiculed. If it was me, it was for your political views. Tough shit, skippy. The Groping Rapist Bankruptor is going down hard. Hopefully he falls off the Earth. Maybe he’ll give you a job on Trump TV. Like Trump steaks, Trump Airlines, Trump University, and Trump Vodka, it’ll be a short-lived pile of shit that dries up and blows away.

I gave Kappy one more game. He didn’t stink it up, but he didn’t play especially well either. Ponder? Sure. He looked good against the Walmart brigade in preseason. I could give a rat’s ass at this point. This team has been bleeding talent, and the season was basically lost when Ian Williams wasn’t able to come back form his ankle. Hmm, wonder if we should have taken that into account when we had a billion in cap money to spend. So Kappy gets another game. Big whoop. Backside coverage on sweeps? Who gives a fuck? It’s the read-option that kills most of these runs. Hitting the hole without the delay of the read-option negates having to worry about back side blocks. No ons is fooled by the read option anymore. All you need is play action at this point.

No I don’t like the coaching, but we don’t have very much talent on the team. What talent we had got hurt. The front 3 are weak sauce. NO ran over Dial all day. Having Blair holding the nose was injury driven, but hoping the Buckner and especially Armstead to improve dramatically is a stretch. Armstead is doing little to stop the run or the pass. Our OLBs do nothing in space and don’t penetrate either. Our short zone is good for giving up 5 on 3rd and 4 about 15 times a game.

Our DBs are fair to middling. Bethea is toast however. If this roster was fully healthy we could have been 8-8. Now it is way too hurt and way too shitty.

I’m not crying too much, NJ. I hated Hillary. I fear the Donald will give away Eastern Europe to the Russians. A Reich Wing victory ,time the U.S. has ignored the militarization of Europe, we’ve paid dearly for it. The EU, and perhaps NATO itself, is in jeopardy.

Eliminating the estate tax and slashing taxes for the 1% brings the U.S. closer and closer to a medieval European style aristocracy. Wait till Donald’s “He’s fighting for us the people” fans get a real whiff of that.

My own state is going to be a disaster. I can take comfort that I’m white and don’t live in Albuquerque?

I can only hope with the military. The man is going to be Commander-in-Chief. I might move back to the west coast. If I’m going to die in the next four years, at least let me get stoned once or twice.

Hillary will never admit that she could have won by endorsing more of Bernie’s platform. Bernie’s plan for free college tuition was unwieldly and should have been more of the German model of achievement based, but it was a start. It was never reported in the national press, but he had a detailed plan to pay it all with a tiny tax on the massive speculative Wall Street microtransactions, the kind that didn’t impede the normal usage of speculation in capitalism.

Pot was derided by Hillary; she threw a sop and said she’d change the scheduling to II.

There’s your youth and suburban wife vote, you stupid Democratic Party hack. Something you won’t get from cable news political analysis, since they seem to be ignoring these subjects like they’re the plague.

If there’s a profit to be made, and lawsuit entanglement to avoid, things get done.
Let’s see just how much clout Trump can wield in an arena he’s never participated in as an insider, let alone the Chief Executive to be.

        Agree as well regarding Hillary.
But I’ve always had a jaundiced eye toward Politics.
Comes down to picking an idiot no matter the matchup IMO.
One thing never changes however, the rich get richer and we get the shaft.

Most of the main stream media flows out of a 7 mile square spot of land. The two biggest cable news networks come out of the same building. It’s amazing.

The USC/LA Times poll got it right again, two Presidential Elections in a row.

In other news, Jed is still CEO of the Niners, Paraag is still Rasputin, and Baalke is still the GM. But I guess I’ll stick to writing about the Niners. There’s always the 22nd century.

  82. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Another day and yes the 9ers still suck no matter who is the President. Lets face it, the country is sick of the Clintons. Her e-mails, her crap personality and her husband looming around made a Trump victory possible. Now to start building that great wall in Mexico. Of course the Mexicans will build tunnels beneath it and come forth in droves as the huge invasion takes place without end. Donald can change first ladies every year by just paying off the latest “bought lady”. America you’re getting what you deserve.

  83. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

We’re all sick of Government in general, which is what Trump won on.
Sadly however, he can’t take Office and fire them all.
Same big money manipulates the process.
    I wish him luck.
    For all our sake.

Trent Baalke………how long will he last as GM?
    A. one more week
    B. through next season
    C. end of this season
    D. Lifetime contract
    E. a few more hours

    from BASG:
Baalke 3rd round picks since 2013:

    Lemonier (gone)
    Martin (no starts in ’16)
    Borland (retired)
    Thomas (gone)
    Harold (not good)
    Redmond (IR)

4 years of 3rd round picks and they have Eli Harold and Marcus Martin to show for it and Harold would be on the bench too if not for injuries. 6 high draft picks, no starting quality players and 2 bench warmers. Oh and he is the defensive guru right?

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Welcome to the Draft under Baalke. 49ers are very unlucky with Baalke. Jed better hire new men to study these drafting results.

I just watched DC O’Neil in his latest presser, he looks like a hunted man. His answers are weak and he looks like he ran out of ideas.

Out of his depth, too young, too inexperienced.

      Fire the DC, now!

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

He deserves a flying banner all his own. His basic defense of himself was consistency wins and that there have been 3 different DC’s in 3 years. Wait, so that means even if you suck the Niners should stick with you?

        Great argument.

  91. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

QB third down stats, Tom Brady is far and away the best and the Niners combo is the worst, Kap even worse than Gabbert if you can believe that:

I was at last years away game in Arizona with a buddy. It took a long time to get into the stadium and find our seating section and we decided to get a couple of beers before sitting down for the game. The Niners were down 14 points in 6 mins IIRC before we even found our seats, it didn’t get any better.

Great stadium BTW, air conditioned and the hotel next door was very handy. McFaddens Saloon is close by and the Faithful congregate there before and after losing.
