Will We Or Won’t We?

And by that I mean draft offensive linemen. The achilles heel for lo all these years has pretty much been getting shut down by teams with strong defensive lines. Seattle gets away with playing a nickel defense and still gets max pressure from their 4 man line. It stopped us in our tracks.

Near as I can tell we need a LG, a C and a backup/starter for Trent Williams. Although Vederian Lowe is possibly a decent backup. We signed 2 backup LGs in Brett Toth and Rob Jones to an already underwhelming group of Connor Colby and Nick Zakelj. so, upgrade that spot.

Jake Brendel is near the bottom of the league in centers so we need an upgrade there as well. He may be a decent run blockerm, but his pass blocking is

I think LG is the biggest weakness so start there.

Plenty of draft boards have us getting an O line in the 1st but I took a look at Walterfootball. They are pretty good and seem like they do their research, but their picks are:

1st: Kayden McDonald, DT, Ohio State
2nd: Jaylon Guilbeau, CB, Texas
3rd: Aaron Anderson, WR, LSU
4th: Ted Hurst, WR, Georgia State
4th: Kaytron Allen, RB, Penn State
4th: Mason Reiger, DE, Wisconsin
4th: Deshon Singleton, S, Nebraska

Nothing for the line. I don’t get it.

For once in their lives, they really need to go O line. Hard. 1 and 3 at the least.

Agree unca. The good news is that these totes do not make the selections. Shanahan and Lynch do.

The buzz I’m hearing is hopefully the 49ers might be interested in Oregon Duck LG Emmanuel Pregon 6’5 318lbs.Has insane 11 inch hands,35” vertical jump 9’3 broad jump tremendous strength, ranks near the top in both, pass protection ( never gave up a sack in 2024 for USC before going to Oregon), and run blocker( perfect player in a Shanny outside zone run scheme)and would make a nice addition with Puni manning the RG and maybe a long term replacement for Trent at LT..Anyway OL OL heavy like they did last year with defensive picks!

Who knows what any FO is doing right now. All I can hope for is at least two picks make me happy, but who knows. I wonder what Purdy thinks about all this. Or what if anything the FO have up their sleeves.

I guess we’re gonna wait until after the draft to deal Jones. I really thought the Raiders might take a shot, but they went with Cousins.

Which shows you how dumb they are. I mean, please. I guess as a one-year throwaway he’d be the ideal candidate. But he’s been a mediocre turd for the past 10 seasons.

My 2 cents for these last 2 weeks and draft day 1 and 2 are:

Try like hell to trade mac jones for a 2nd and use one of the 4ths if needed. Pick #58 is late and feels like a 3rd to me.

Well researched draft boards to adapt to runs on edges or OL before we pick. I am hoping there is a run on edges in the 1st. There seem to be starter capable OT like Max Ihe…. , Kaden Procter, Blake Miller, Morgan Freeling after the first two are grabbed. Can they do LG in rookie year if TW healthy.

The two 2nd rd picks BPA for a fast edge . If not can Joey Bosa fit. A FS, C, LG, big WR for the 2nd and 4th rounds.

Well, this has a lot to do with why I want this stupid front office to fish or cut bait with Williams. So we know what we need in the draft.

Similar to Alex Mack retiring after the fucking draft. Like, hey, thanks, dude.

So why should the Niners go hard drafting a CB in the secondary when they just added Former Dolphin/Raiders CB Jack Jones to a 1 year deal? They now have plenty of veteran leadership with Lenior,Green,Hobbs,Jones,Stout.Their certainly adding plenty of draft depth before the draft on OL,DL,Secondary but top prospects they need to hit on still for sure OL OL DE WR,C,

And no need for a Punter and FG kicker to blow a pick on so what will the ever scratching are heads combo of Shannylynch maneuver for now?Cause whatever we think, as usual think opposite!!

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, none of that makes any sense.

Hadn’t heard about Pregon, AK> Sounds like a fit. Yeah, they NEED to go O line heavy. Trade Jones for something.

This is the worse time for football all year even the sportswriters don’t have anything to say that isn’t made up. I imagine we do the same thing we always do and that is a DE, WR, RB/MLB. We probably get a OG somewhere probably a udfa.

Richard Sherman says how to beat the SEA defense. LG it is at #27.

Sherm saying the same s**t many of us have been saying all offseason. Beating Seattle starts with the OL, and it requires bigger bodies. If you need to invest an early pick to get a big, athletic body, so be it. This is why I have no issue with taking a guard at 27. It starts with the OL, and it extends to the tight end and wide receiver blocking. If you don’t fix those issues across the board, good luck winning the NFCW next season.

Sad to hear Phil Garner passed. Came up with A’s, later was with Giants and played on 1979 Champion Pirates, one of my fav teams. Successful manager too in 3 different stops. RIP Scrap Iron

Yeah, a load of bullshit. Greenlaw is a low-risk high-reward signing. I mean really. He may not even make it through camp. Evans is a bit of a risk, but he’s been dependable for most of his career.

Some people just like to hear the sound of their own pontifications. They’ve made solid signings at positions of need. And they got a great deal on Odighizuwa.

Build the line and we should be in good shape.

Funny, even the Seahawk guy says this in the end:

None of this is to root for the San Francisco 49ers, of course. The Seattle Seahawks will hopefully still be the better team, but what executives think can mostly be dismissed in this case. The 49ers have been successful for too long to care what other teams’ decision-makers believe about them.
