Word is now that the deal is off between Denver and San Francisco on dealing the enigmatic quandary that is Colin Kaepernick. Kappy won’t take a $5 million pay cut, and the team isn’t willing to eat that much salary either, so here we sit. With a QB that is getting paid $12 mill, and who may or may not even be our starter. Frankly I’m shocked that Kappy didn’t split. If he wants to stick it to the 49ers, his best bet would be to leave and take Denver on a nice playoff run as he worked to rehab his image in a new town.
As it is here, well, he DOES have a chance to do the same here. As in rehab a tarnished image. Chip’s style of go-go offense would seem to be suited for Colin’s game. And Chip likes athletic QBs that can move. A match made in heaven, right? Yeah, right. It comes back to the QB competition between Gabby and Kappy this preseason. And if Kappy can’t beat out the likes of Blaine Gabbert, then he’s mailing it in for a seat on the bench. A la RG III last year. And we all saw how that worked out for RG III. Back up money on a desperate team.
I don’t get this at all. Alex Smith didn’t want to leave here as well, even though he had plenty of opportunity, albeit for much different reasons. Kappy? I have no idea. He came into the league as a humble man-child who was honored to be here., and in the NFL Now he’s guarded and arrogant, hiding behind a surly and off-putting attitude. I blame Harbaugh.
Seriously though, I don’t get the thought process behind this. Kaepernick had the opportunity to go to the defending Super Bowl champs and pretty much be handed the starting job. Play well, and he likely gets a restructured deal for his make-good year in Denver. Instead, he comes back to a team that he (apparently) alienated due to his actions in the clubhouse. He has a tough row to hoe here, and the chance that he puts this team on his back and carries it to the playoffs (or even respectability) is a long shot. Here’s the story:

NJ, you are speculating wildly about Kaepernick. About his competing for this job, and for the salary constraints put on the contact the Broncos are offering Kaepernick. I’ve heard the deal was dogshit for Kappy to sign. He’s got no reason to shortchange himself $20 mill.
Chuck the kicker in all of this is simple.
Is Kaep willing to work for his current Contract or not?
He seems to think he can leave, Contract intact, without a hair of leverage.
He lost his job to Gabbert for a reason. He wasn’t effective.
Why not prove you can beat Gabbert and keep your coin?
What’s being reported in Denver is, Kaep isn’t seen as a bonafide starter there either.
He’s being offered a ‘chance’ to start.

As I understand the Contract, he’s guaranteed for injury.
What’s to stop SF from pulling the RG III lever and, perhaps deactivating him to protect their Cap?
If he’s benched, and healthy, does he qualify to be paid?
He wasn’t last year during the period he wasn’t starting.
He was docked numerous game checks. All within the fine print I guess?
Point being, he could easily lose money he thinks he can steal by sitting idly by, instead of grabbing what he was paid to do. Be the starter.
Earn your deal and compete.

It was a championship series quality game by both teams. The Warriors scored 14 (!!) in the first qtr. and 35 (!!!!!!!) in the first half. Pop was pizzed after and had neither excuses nor answers. That’s good enough for me. ‘If you’re interested and can watch, it’s being replayed tomorrow morn on NBAHD sat channel 216 at 10 AM my time (don’t know, since it’s a replay, if that winds up being 9 AM or 10 AM PDT).

You seem to know that Kaepernick isn’t going to try and beat out Gabbert, NJ. I don’t see how you have that knowledge.
Denver low-balled the shit out of the deal. Elway is offering a pick they don’t have. They are slow-playing the fuck out of this to see if Baalke flinches. He hasn’t, plus Kaepernick has the cards here. He’s in the cat-bird seat. If Denver ups their deal, he goes to a contender and the Niners get more picks. If they don’t, he stays and gets his money here. I think he understands that he would do well to play his best to garner interest next year. If he pouts and sits on the sidelines, he won’t get the deal he would if he plays well. Will someone pay him? Sure. But I don’t think he’s just going to lay down and hold the clipboard like you seem to be sure of.
I’m not sure of anything other than he wants out Chuck.
I just question what matters to him?

Sitting another year, possibly losing game checks? That’s a ton of potential risk if 2 teams offered him an out already.
Where does that improve his stock, or his bottom line this year? Or, beyond?
Then, what if Baalke says ‘not good enough’ to compensation?

As I’ve stated several times, simply swapping Picks 31 for 37 damn near nails a 4th RD value this year for Denver.
I could see Baalke floating a late RDer this year to Elway and, asking for a future Pick in return.
It still comes back to Kaep accepting another Contract to get out now.

Yeah, hell of a game. I missed the 1st half. Saw them coming out of the break. Love seeing Curry and Thompson attack in the lane. They can sometimes start firing away too much from beyond the arc. At one point they were 5-24.
The first half was all D by both teams, the best two D teams in the league. It was awesome, championship ball. The Warriors couldn’t do anything until they were able to speed the game up. Then they began to roll and overcome the 9 point hole.
Possible trades other than Kap:
Got the game on tape. Had to watch the Giants comeback last night. I’ll watch the Warriors tonight.
