Spring is Springing

What a glorious time to be a Bay Area sports fan. The Giants just took 3 of 4 (and could have easily swept), the dreaded Dodgers, the defending champion Warriors triumphantly beat their demons in San Antonio by winning in a building they hadn’t won in since 1997 when Chris Mullin and David Price roamed the hardwood. A feat that stopped the Spurs bid to win out at home this season. Shit, even the Raiders look to be on the upswing as their young QB and the shoring up of their non-existent defense gives their fans hope. The A’s? Well, sorry. Your GM is a fool who never met a good player he wouldn’t trade for middling prospects.

And then there’s the 49ers. The fly in the ointment. The turd in the toilet. The monkey’s paw if you like. The 49ers, and Trent Baalke are still in the pissing match that is the Denver Broncos bid to wrestle away our once and future passed quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. The latest out of Denver is they want to pay Kaepernick like an ‘elite backup’. This is of course after floating out a trade for him that involved a pick they didn’t have, and the talk of asking him to take close to a $10 million pay cut based on his incentives here. So, instead of our own front office casting aspersions his way, which they did with gusto last year, we have the team trying to GET him casting doubt about his abilities and their diminishing comments.

I have no problem with Kaepernick telling both sides to take a hike. In the end, it’s his ass out there getting pounded into oblivion behind a shitty line and getting bad-mouthed by the front office that he did a favor for. Namely by signing a team-friendly deal that was supposed to keep the talent here. Instead we got the epic migration of talent that rivaled the dust bowl Oakies heading here during the early 30s, and the hiring of a coaching staff that will go down as one of the most inept in recent memory. Then, the changing of the guard yet again. So, if Kappy casts a jaundiced eye at the state of affairs in his current situation, more power to him. He’s the one holding all the high cards at this point.

The Niners aren’t going to let him go on the cheap. Kappy certainly won’t take a huge pay cut to play in the Mile-High city, and all he has to do here is show up. Everyone knows the stakes involved, and I think the biggest factor here is that if Denver doesn’t make this trade, they are starting the season with a soon-to-be 30 year old Mark Sanche as their starting quarterback. The fan base would be pretty pissed off should ol’ horse teeth starts the season with butt-fumble, and Trevor Siemien as their QB corps.

Kap should play where he wants. It would work out the best for everyone. Niners have to do well in this draft no question. They have to look to the future not the past. Levis’s Stadium is known more for bad turf, fights in restrooms, and monster trucks than football. All that football glory was left in SF.

  2. unca_chuck says:

    Still think it’s Denver, Nip.

Man, I do get a thrill emptying the trash that is FlyingV’s posts. To think he crafts his lovingly bigoted and inane bullshit for 20 minutes only to be blown up by my spam filter is one of the small joys of life.

  4. Winder says:

Hey V is one persistent dude, I don’t agree with a lot of the stuff he says but he is consistant in what he believes. Sometimes he actually makes me laugh and that’s hard to do lately.
Not sure if Baalky is trying to buy more time by going into total rebuild mode or if he’s just working on a wing & a prayer.

  5. unca_chuck says:

I don’t think he knows either.

  6. NJ49er says:

Most, (if not all of this turmoil), centers on what did, and didn’t happen, with Kaep/Harbaugh/Baalke.
We’ve speculated ad infinitim about how the dynamic evolved and ended in such disaster.
What we’re facing now is, transitioning personnel from a Rock Pounding Harbaugh venue, to a nimble quick passing Chip venue.
    OLine must be overhauled.
QB must learn to identify options quickly and deliver.
This is where I believe alot of the angst begins and ends with Kaep.
His style of play and passing proficiency just doesn’t seem to fit.
    We’ll find out soon enough.

Chip will seek a quick-trigger guy with good vision, touch and accuracy.
I’m not ruling out the little dude, Vernon Adams from OR, at this point.
    Russell Wilson II?

  7. unca_chuck says:

Kaepernick did plenty of quick passing in Reno, NJ. Sure, the NFL is bigger/faster, but it isn’t as if Kappy is a complete moron out there. Any QB, given time or options, can find people. And it’s not like Harbaugh’s offense hid these glaring weaknesses in Colin’s game.

The dynamic all comes from the front office. They started the whisper campaign with Singletary. They did it to Crabtree. They did it to Harbaugh. They did it to Kaepernick. They must have learned this from Mike Nolan talking shit about Alex Smith.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Josh (doh!!) Gordon failed another drug test. I guess he should rethink his roommate situation as he’s apparently been living with Johnny Manzeil. I guess just being in his vicinity gets one over the limit.

This shit is REALLY getting old.

Once again, a “report has surfaced” that AD and Antoine Bethea are on the trading block.

    http://www.knbr.com/2016/04/11/anthony-davis-responds-to-trade-rumors/

Bethea? Sure, but even then, he’s a solid guy who can now back up Tartt. He won’t even cost that much. AD? Well, depends on what he did during his time off. If he’s 400 lb and out of shape, sure. Fuck him. But he’s still young and under contract. If he’s ready to go, we NEED linemen and he’s familiar with the guys.

  10. rtfirefly says:

Three reasons why I want the Niners to draft Goff with their #7, if possible:
    1) Arik Armstead
    2) Jimmie Ward
    3) A.J. Jenkins

The “safe” building pick doesn’t always prove to be all that, especially if you’re the Baalke Niners. It’s true that Eric Reid has proven to be a good 1st round pick. It’s also true that the last time the Niners had a pick anywhere near as high as #7, they got Aldon Smith. It’s also true that the last time they had a shot at a potential franchise QB from Cal, they whiffed. Horribly. Set the franchise back years, and set the table for the continuing powerhouse that is the Packers.

Draft Goff and don’t look back. If he ends up a second-stringer, so what. Right now we’ve got Blaine Gabbert. Right.

    • Winder says:

I’m thinking the same way.I doubt Goff will be there but if he is and we don’t pick him it will send a vary discouraging message to the team and the fans. Even if he flops at least we tried.

  11. unca_chuck says:

12th, they may have whiffed on Rodgers, but he would have left here as fast as possible given the fucked up situation here. The only scenario that would have worked out is Nolan becoming GM, McCarthy moving to head coach, and Rodgers becoming the man here back in aught 6.

Not exactly a likely scenario, but one that makes me wonder sometimes.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Ooops, that was for RTF. Who knows how shit would have gone down with Rodgers here? I don’t thin kit would have ended up in Super Bowl glory, but who knows? The defense was fair to decent back then.

  13. Nipper says:

The team needs more than a QB. It needs a giant monster truck to mow down their opponents. And some decent turf too.

    • Nipper says:

A new GM and FO would be helpful. And retire Jed to a nearby mall. He can wax the floors and become a success.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Speaking of deals, Jason LaCanfora reports that Cleveland backed out of a deal that would have sent Josh Gordon to the Niners for Kendal Hunter and a 2nd round pick.

  15. unca_chuck says:

They don’t call it the factory of sadness for nothing.

  16. unca_chuck says:

    Dubs going for history tonight.

  17. unca_chuck says:

Well the new fence helps Peavy for the time being

  18. unca_chuck says:

    Like 3 minutes.

Time for that Warriors pre game show.

  19. rtfirefly says:

It’s gonna be the Rockets in a last week playoff spot comeback. Good. The Jazz beat the Warriors once and nearly twice, playing tough in all four games. The Warriors own the Rockettes. Sportsline gives Houston a 1.4% chance of winning the series. Those are my kinda odds.

  20. NJ49er says:

Rams dealt with TN for 1st Pick
    There goes a QB?

    • Nipper says:

      Ouch!

    • 12th man says:

Did you see what the Rams gave up? Is Wentz or Goff worth all that?
I didn’t think the Niners would take a QB in the first round. They need help now not 3 years from now.

      • NJ49er says:

        A shitload 12th
Very expensive gamble if they’re going after a QB
Tunsil now knocks someone else down too.

      • 12th Man says:

Huge gamble. I don’t see a Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck amongst them.

  21. rob says:

Yes yes yes !!! Lambs to no. 1 means two QB’s and Tunsil will go before us. That leaves only three picks between us and a slam dunk stud on defense !!! Kap stays as our QB!!
    GO NINERS

  22. Winder says:

They are gonna take Goff. A pure fucking passer. That means the cellar for us for the next few years.

  23. unca_chuck says:

I guess they are trying it the other way.

    • 12th Man says:

Making a splash for the new market but a hell of a price to pay. Like Rob says, means a very solid D player falls to the Niners.

      • rob says:

I hope they take Goff and he sucks lol
WINDER don’t worry about Kap. Winning cures all and like Jim Harbaugh, I think he’ll flourish under Kelley.

  24. Winder says:

    rob, hope you are right

  25. unca_chuck says:

    Its all a dream . . . Gonna be a funky year.

    New thread is up . . .
