I didn’t think it would happen this soon, but the 49ers and Broncos are already discussing a trade for their once-and-future-passed-him-by quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers want a 2nd. Denver wants a 3rd. If this is the only sticking point, this will happen fairly quickly. I thought they’d wait till after April Fools day, but I think Denver is in, not desperation mode, but ‘let’s get this shit done and move on’ mode. The rumors around Gary Kubiak wanting Kaepernick started the day Kappy was benched by Jimmy (bad dream) Tomsula last year.
Since there are a ton of fans that are waiting to say ‘good riddance’ to the bicep-kissing one, I have to say be careful what you wish for. Kaepernick, for al his problems last year, is a shit-ton better than Blaine Gabbert. But for 2 botched FGs, Gabbert is 1-7 here. Sure, he’s been on shitty teams, but the 49er team he had was better than the one Kappy had to deal with. The line got better, and the run game came around some. The biggest problem with Gabbert is gaining 5 years on 3rd and 7. He constantly checked down in the face of getting first downs downfield. This is what drove Alex out of here. What good is a great completion percentage if you are throwing 4 yard passes?
Beyond that, Kaepernick must be dancing in the streets to have the possibility of going from the 49ers to the Super Bowl champs. And that has to mean something that they see something in him that we don’t. So, if he goes, what then?
Well, we get to the draft. Trent Baalke has ignored the QB position his entire tenure here. Kappy himself was Harbaugh’s guy, and he ignored the position for the last 3 drafts. Once Alex went he should have taken a shot in the middle rounds at a viable backup. I’m of the mind that we either go with Goff or forego drafting a QB early. he’s the only one I like.
Without Goff, I foresee at least another 4 years of suckitude. barring some crazy maneuvering down the road. Chip os going to have a tough row to hoe if Baalke doesn’t get a boatload of talent on the offensive side of the ball this year. Including quarterback, if this trade comes to pass.
Something to be assured about: Baalke is “holding firm.”
Yeah, Elway is desperate. Having just won the Super Bowl and all. Sanchez starting for the Broncos? No. Only the walking dead believe that.
Funny how Buwwit makes it a point to ‘argue’ with bakken after I point out they are one and the same,
The Browns talk is a smokescreen. Kappy is either going to Denver or staying here. I think Cleve is drafting their QB. Rams may trade up as Tenn is looking to trade out.
If Goff goes to Cleveland, I’ll feel sorry for the kid. That is a wasteland, and he’ll likely die on the vine. Even with Hue at the helm, that organization is a disaster. The prices paid for QBs show that it is the most critical position on the team, in spades. The Niners MUST draft a QB, it is an absolute priority. With the first pick. You can’t rely on Gabbert, and some clipboard guy they grab off the scrap heap for backup. If that’s the plan, the Niners are crap for the foreseeable future. Look at Oakland. They got a kid in Carr that looks like he’ll settle in as a top 10 QB, and look what’s happening. They can build around that, fill out the roster on both sides of the ball. If you have a crap QB, you are nowhere in the NFL. Unless you have an absolutely dominant defense, and even then its a challenge.
Snarkk dog ready to bite some suit’s ankles?
Maybe Baalke has tried to get OLmen, and nobody worth a crap wants to play for Chip, and his 100 mph offense that basically makes linemen do endless wind sprints to be in shape for it…
I agree, there has to be something going on behind the scene for us to do absolutley nothing. The only people I have heard with positive comments about chipper are old Oregon players. Our OC and DC are both suspicious as far as I’m concerned. I want to blame Jed for this crap but I think it’s Baalke for the most part.
Time for a nice loud midday BLEEP!
Bullit is pissed off with Trump for threatening to deport the illegals. If that happens he’ll lose his maid. Who will make his bed? Who will pick the crops? Bullit is one concerned dude. How will he get his veggies? And losing his gardener! The thought of cutting his own lawn will send Bullit into a full time panic mode!
It’s amazing to see how American politics have evolved. Barnum & Bailey in their wildest dreams couldn’t put on a show like this. It is a far cry from Nixon/ Kennedy debates. Once Hollywood got involved common sense went out the window.
Instead of a chicken in every pot. It’s now high speed internet service in every home. That and yearly social security raises will get my vote.
Right. I’m beginning to wonder if those folks that think the ends times are upon us are right.
WAY too much stupidity being shown out there in the country. Flyover states indeed.
I’m more in the camp of a meteor crashing to earth than an Apocalypse. But, maybe those are one and the same.
It’s kinda funny about priorities, I am planning on moving back to the West Coast by next year and not sure exactly where. But I want a Costco and Walmart close by so maybe I am one who has lost sight and is directed by consumer goods. Never thought that would happen. Anyway, sorry for the babble.
Yeah, but a guy like Trump can hurry the process along pretty fast.
Sir Spit is down on Baalke of course. He’s again sounding like an ex-fan. Still he keeps showing up on “Skeeber’s Asylum for wayward dudes.”
I wonder how much time Sptity will spend blogging that he won’t pay attention or watch the team.
One positive…….sometimes he takes on Bullit. Those two are not close.
Por Buwwit. Late to the dance as usual. Didn’t want Dak a month ago. Now of course he reacts a day late and a buck short.
Dak is the kind of QB that could excel with Chip.
The question becomes, do they opt for a prototypical Pocket Guy like Goff or, wait for a guy like Dak after RD1?
This is what concerns me most with Jed’s involvement as Chief Cook and Cheerleader.
Simply wish he’d find something else to do and, take Paraag with him while he’s doing it.
This mess is something Chip and Baalke need to focus on. Together.
Not a PR, Fan/Media pleasing, PSL Selling Owner trying to make a splash.
Comp INTs
Wentz – 64.1% / 14
Lynch – 62.9% / 23
Goff – 62.3% / 30
Prescott – 62.8% / 23
Doughty – 68.6% / 24
Couple of off the radar guys perhaps?
John Robertson / Villanova – 64.0% / 18
Michael Eubank / Samford – 65.8% / 16
Dylan Thompson is nothing to get excited about either, (58.3% / 16) though he did throw 40TDs in 38 games and carried an Avg QBR of 141.
Not clue what we’ve got with him in a Chip Kelly Offense.
Games YDS
Wentz – 43 / 5115
Lynch – 38 / 8863
Goff – 37 / 12200
Prescott – 49 / 9376
Doughty – 43 / 12855
John Robertson / Villanova – 40 / 6842
Michael Eubank / Samford – 37 / 3968
By comparison, some of these guys didn’t throw for too many yards.
Doughty is my dark horse simply because he’s pretty accurate.
Not very fast however.
NJ- It’s difficult to compare many of those stats with one another. Difficulty in schedules, the running game strength, type of offense run, etc… But I do think the accuracy is a major selling point. Hard to tell until they get into the pro game.
100% agree Winder.
Which is why I don’t like the College QB position as it relates to the Pro game.
Too many gimmicky Offenses in College.
Now, with Kelly at the helm, I can’t begin to predict how he sees the position.
His style of play suggests a quick decision maker with good accuracy.
Doughty is a wiry kid but, he’s got moxie IMO.
Goff threw the most TDs which is a plus, and even with 30 INTs, he put the ball up quite a bit, like Doughty.
I simply don’t want to see a repeat of the friction from Chip, that occurred between Baalke and Harbaugh, on what the finished product should look like.
Pretty obvious to me that Kaep never got beyond his penchant to run.
Likely a good reason why Kaep is on the outs right now.
Chip and Baalke need to get on the same page in terms of how this team should be constructed.
Chips’ Offense seems to fly in the face of what Baalke/Harbaugh had.
Which might suggest bigger slower OL will need to be revamped.
See how it comes together soon enough.
I do think there are plenty of OL options that could help us beyond the 1st 2 RDs.
Would like to snag Defensive help early as this is where the strength of this Class is.
Pick 7 could go anywhere IMO.
The guys I like early are DE Ogbah and DT Rankins but, Pick 7 is likely too high for both.
If they pass on the QB at 7, sliding back into the middle of RD1 would be a good spot to shop for either guy.
Be nice if Baalke could finagle an extra 2 to give us 3 Picks in the Top 2 RDs.
Which is why I think he’s seeking a 2nd for Kaep.
See if Cleveland bites.
Even their 3rd is close enough to make it nearly a 2nd,
Send Kap to Cleveland that shithole on the lake. That owner makes Jed look like a high-minded statesman.
Goff, Like Rodgers before him, comes from a pro-style offense at Cal. No guarantee of success but certainly he knows the progressions and reads and such in that style of offense. And he’s played against strong competition. If Cal had a defense, his record would be even better.
Which is why I’d go with him hands down. Wentz looks pretty good as well, but he’s facing 2nd-tier teams and playing in a run-heavy offense. The rest are bigger pieces of work. Lynch in the 2nd works for me. I think his draft stock isn’t nearly what it was.
New thread is up.
