Man, I find it hilarious that people really think that if Harbaugh stayed, Borland and Willis would not have retired. Or that Cox, Cully, and Gore would still be here. The problems this team faces would still be the same under Harbaugh. The PERCEPTION of the team would be different, but who gives a shit about that? Well, a lot of so-called fans who bemoan the ideal that St. Jim wasn’t trending down, or that his window was closing with the team that Trent Baalke (and ol’ Scotty the Tippler) built.
Like the fact that the problems with this offense that were supposedly going to be fixed last year, weren’t. Still too many inopportune time outs. Still too many 3rd and short failures. Too many 3 and out drives. Yeah we had injuries. But so did the defense. Moreso in fact. But the defense held together for the most part. The offense was a mishmash of poorly designed and executed plays. Blocking was poor to awful. And the lack of any kind of pushing the offense to new heights was squashed.
Near the end of the Raider game when we were close, but down 2 scores with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter and the season on the line, we plodded down the field, using up the play clock every play, as we burned 5 minutes gaining 51 yards, and missed the FG. No no-huddle, no quick plays called at the line, no hurry-up. Just the same plodding offense.
Harbaugh and Roman had to go.

I’m still upset about the loss to the Lions in the 1957 NFL semi-finals, and I wasn’t even born yet! Bob St Clair explained it on the radio in Reno some years back. He said they had a big lead but by halftime also had 4 injured CBs and no way to stop the passing game. I’ve often read and heard about that game but no mention of our loss of 4 CBs was ever made. When Bob explained it I finally had a decent reason for the collapse. It still stings, right up there with Fred Merkel of the 1908 Giants who didn’t step on 2nd base to cost us the pennant! RIP Bob St Clair!

NJ 49er any thoughts on Collins ?
The best way to explain is he is a deluxe Culliver. All the necessary talent and more, just inexperienced. Collins is long, big and fast plus he is a leaper. I say he is worth the pick because if he doesn’t develop as a CB he would be a good safety. Some say he will probably develop into the best corner in this draft.
I omitted Collins from my Wish List in favor of Eric Rowe Rob.
Either guy appears worthy of a pick in the 1st 2 RDs.
I just like Rowe better, simply because he’s got FS experience and tackles very well.
Would love to snag Steven Nelson in RD3 however.
He’s raw, but his upside is near limitless. He’s only started 10 games, but he’s got size, speed , and strength.

We’re ranked at #3 (.561) Berger, Seattle at #4 (.559).
Only Pittsburgh #1 (.578) and Cincy #2 (.563) are statistically worse than us.
We’re a total enigma at this point, in terms of scheme identity.
I’m going to remain the ever optimistic 9er fan however.
My prediction – A 9-7 season.
I’m not making any predictions until I see if we have a decent play caller. We haven’t had one in years.
Basing my prediction simply on the schedule/opponent.
Praying for something that resembles a balanced Offense too.
No matter what, I’m tuned in and hoping for the best.

Steve Kerr of the Warriors has just entered the title or bust territory. The Warriors window is now open so it is title or bust. McClellen of the Sharks and Harbaugh couldn’t deliver with their open windows and Bochy did. Did he ever! We need to get this window back open for Tomsula. We’re still very close and still a possible contender. Our roster is still good but window open good? That’s the question. IMO, it depends how good our front 7 is on defense. Without McDonald and Smith, those are big cleats to fill. And of course, Patrick Willis s gone too.
Our entire philosophy is changing on both Offense and Defense this year.
I have a bit better expectations from Mangini on the Defensive side.
I’m also hoping Steve Logan can get some WCO elements introduced early to speed Kaep’s progressions up.

I have more confidence in this coaching staff than the Harbaugh situation which was unraveling. Harbaugh was good for a while but his management style is scorched Earth. It will probably work better in college since the player turnover is faster. I am glad we had Harby but I am also glad he is gone. Watching his offense was severe torture. I’m hoping the new OC does a much better job of creating a rhythm on offense. He can hardly do worse. For being a former NFL QB it was astonishing to watch how bad Harbaugh’s play calling was.
The Warriors could very well look a lot different next year, so the do really have to roll this playoffs. Draymond Green being the biggest challenge to keep. Lee can go.

Berger the Funchess/Waller comparison not only takes size/speed/stats into consideration.
The Draft is all about the slots associated with guys that might be similar.
Neither guy is guaranteed to be a slam dunk in the NFL.
Most every player taken is taken with the hope of development in mind.
Funchess may be a RD2 slot.
Waller could be a guy you can steal in RD5?
For now, I’d hope Baalke puts a higher RD value on the Defense.
NJ- You can compare measurables but game footage is better. Watch how well Funchess catches the ball in traffic. He uses his body well for positioning too. He is a very fluid athlete. I can also show you a video of him getting his head above the rim on a basketball court. This is a red zone weapon deluxe.

I think there’s better value in RDs 2-4 myself.
If the perfect guy isn’t there for us at 15, dropping back into the bottom of RD1 and, getting an extra Pick or 2, could work out just fine, we’ll see…
Funchess can get up in the air, think red zone.

Pretty similar guys IMO.
Waller is just faster and more nimble IMO.
Neither guy is Calvin Johnson in terms of production but, either of them could be a nice TE conversion candidate and definitely could be used in the Red Zone.

Ga Tech and Michigan both ran offenses that are not conducive to a players numbers. For the offenses they both played in their numbers are pretty good.
