All Draught All the Time

Stillots of questions over who the Ni era should take with their 15th PCM in this draft. Through the process of elimination, I don’t think they’ll go with an LT as I’ve heard recently. I think there are enough LBs out there to find someone in the 2nd round.

After that, all bets are off. DL, CB, and WR are big needs. Torrey Smith is a good acquire, but we need more at that spot. TE even.

I wonder if the fact that Funchess is a tweeter type raises him up our board. Esp if we stop the ground and pound offense and mix things up a little scheme wise.

Beyond that there’s still Davante Parkertalk out there. Would you pass on him if he’s there at 15? I wouldn’t trade up for a WR but id look hard at him if he was there.

    Forget needs just get talent.

  2. Berger says:

Erik Armstead is probably the guy in this draft who can replace Justin Smith, except Leonard Williams who has no chance of dropping to us. Thing is he is not plug and play. He’ll need a year of development. But physically he is a beast with an attitude and a non stop motor.

He is the guy that caused Auburn the most problems in the college play-off. He was just everywhere. He reminds of a stronger Charles Haley.

I’m thinking of leaning toward him for our first pick.

That sounds great but the negatives are that he gets too intent on kicking ass on the guy in front of him instead of keeping his head in the game and diagnosing plays. I’ve seen him destroy the guy in front of him while the play goes by. That is my one worry.

I think good coaching can channel that nasty demeanor for the good of the team. I think I would take the chance for an animal like Armstead. I would put a lot of weight on the personal interviews if I wanted to draft this guy just to make sure is reasonable and coachable.

    • Berger says:

I’m not implying that Armstead is a head case. I’m just wondering why he gets so focused on beating his man instead of being aware of his surroundings. I love the attitude but don’t like that he loses focus on the team concept. It is probably coachable but that is what I would want to know before I would draft him.

    • Berger says:

Looks like it is spelled Arik and not Erik.

  3. Berger says:

I’ve had questions about Trey Waynes ability to cover in the NFL where he isn’t allowed to be nearly as physical as in college, here is another view by the ESPN Insider.

“While most left the combine in awe of Waynes’ speed, the discussion among PFF analysts centered on the fact that his 20-yard shuttle (4.39 seconds) was slower than his 40 time (4.31), a rare feat we couldn’t recall seeing. That poor change-of-direction ability was evident on tape, and is a problem at a position where change of direction is vital.”

“Moreover, for someone who possessed the recovery speed to not have to worry about getting beat deep, Waynes was fairly average breaking on intermediate routes and had only three pass breakups on 59 targets. His mark for yards per coverage snap allowed was just about average, at 1.04, but he was exposed against the most talented passing team the Spartans faced all year (Oregon). In that game in Week 2, he yielded 113 yards on seven targets, including a touchdown.”

From reading this it sounds like he might be a better safety prospect?

  4. unca_chuck says:

Hey AK, good to see you . . .

I wonder if we could trade down and still get Jalen Collins. Good size/speed combo.

Then again, Byron Jones looks pretty damn good. Huge leaper and great speed. Small college guy (UConn) but he ran a 4.35 40 and had 44.5″ vert leap. Played corner and safety.

  5. alleykat69 says:

Yeah every mock draft guy is different for the 49ers..From Armstead to Waynes to Collins to Shelton to Parker just keeps your head spinning..Now I’m hearing Shane Ray could drop due to his foot ( toe turf) please pass 49ers(Patrick Willis redux no thanks)

  6. Berger says:

It’s hard to say what the all time draught is. Right now I’m liking Stone Brewery and Arrogant Bastard.

  7. unca_chuck says:

Great Basin in your neck of the woods is very nice . . .

    • Berger says:

It’s called the Icky! That’s short for Ichthyosaur “Icky” IPA by Great Basin Brewery. And yes, it is excellent!

  8. Nipper says:

When are you guys going to be right about something? I’m expecting some hellacious crowing to explode on draft day. Remember all the steaks look good at the meat market.

    • Berger says:

Nipper- Most bloggers are always right. They just talk both sides so when it is said and done they can quote the side that was correct!

      • 12th man says:

You still have the splinters in your ass from fence sitting Alex Smith Berger!

      • Berger says:

I openly said it. No talking out both sides here. I had more problems with the coaching than the QB. I sat on the fence until we had a head coach who valued the QB position above the others. BTW, if I bend over could you pull some splinters out of my ass!

    • 12th man says:

Those suckers are in so deep you need surgery!

  9. NJ49er says:

Final answers on the Safety positions for my Wish List –
    No particular order…..

    SS –
    Clayton Geathers – UCF – 6’2″/218
    Anthony Harris – UVA – 6’1″/183
    Jaquiski Tartt – Samford – 6’1″/220
    Ibraheim Campbell – NW – 5’11″/208
    Jordan Richards – Stanford – 5’11″/211

    FS –
    Chris Hackett – TCU – 6’0″/195
    Cody Prewitt – MS – 6’2″/208
    Damarious Randall – ASU – 5’11″/196
    Kurtis Drummond – MI State – 6’1″/208
    Doran Grant – (CB) – OH St – 5’10″/200 (SS?) – Excellent Speed – 4.44

  10. NJ49er says:

    BTW Berger –
Not sure if anyone answered you regarding DT Ahtyba Rubin?
    Seattle has him.
    $2.5Mil/1 yr – $1Mil signing bonus.

    We’ll get a young DT/NT this week I think.

  11. NJ49er says:

Berger one guy I’d love to steal in the later RDs is DT Tyeler Davison from Fresno St.
    6’2″/316
    Played in 53 games – 161 TKLs/28.5 TFL/14.5 SACKS
    5.16 40 – 32 reps

Comparing him to Malcom Brown – 6’2″/320
    Played in 39 games – 146 TKLs/24 TFL/7.5 SACKS
    5.05 40 – 26 reps

Pretty comparable, except for the Draft slotting.

    • robbiedeluca says:

Nice one nj. What round is Davison projected to go in ?

      • robbiedeluca says:

        Hmm Walter football says rd 6 . NT i assume … ?

      • NJ49er says:

Rob I have him on my Late RD predictions list.
Might find him RD5 or later?
If we miss/pass on the DT/NT early, a guy like Davison could be a cheaper option to develop?
There’s a ton of depth at WR and DL this year.
Baalke might opt to snatch an OLineman at 15 if someone of value slides through the 1st 14 Picks?
We’ve really only got Staley and Davis right now, with Pears and Boone being the only other legit OT options.
With Boone being on a final year Contract, it’s hard to predict where he’s going to be in terms of Contract extension expectations.
A rookie won’t cost nearly as much.

        Find out soon enough….

      • NJ49er says:

Another guy I like in the Later RDs is Xavier Williams – (DT) – UNI – 6’2″/314
Small school guy (No. Iowa) but he’s got some good looking numbers in terms of production.
        41 Games – 224 TKLs/29.5 TFL/15 Sacks.
A little slow, (5.32) but he’s very active and put up 30 reps.

He’s a guy that could be had beyond RD5 as well.

  12. NJ49er says:

The more I compare the numbers on the CBs – Eric Rowe might be the best guy for us?
    Has FS experience also –
Would love to snag Kevin Johnson and Eric Rowe from this weeks’ festivities.

  13. NJ49er says:

I will be attending the 9er/NYG game at teh Meadowlands for Sunday Night Football in October.
My Son came through with tickets as soon as the schedule was released 😀

  14. NJ49er says:

BTW Berger – Tinsley is coming back to NYC in May.
    I missed his last visit.
Hoping to catch him this time around.

2 Shows – May 11 – Iridium Jazz Club in NYC.

  15. unca_chuck says:

Way to go NJ. How is it for opposition fans out there?

    • NJ49er says:

      Usual stuff Chuck.
NYG fans will heckle and chirp but, they’re more tolerant and, less prone to altercations IMO.

Eagles fans by far, are the worst.
Anyone wearing the wrong color jersey is not going to enjoy a moments peace.
      Class-A Morons to the core.
When traveling to support your team in Philly. Be ready to rumble.

NYJ Fans? Rowdy and obnoxious, but, they also left early when Kaep and our 9ers routed them a couple years back.
All part of the Fan experience I guess?

  16. unca_chuck says:

I can’t wait to see the predictions this year on Skeebies blog. He’s got 0-16 nailed down.

Plus he has spitfuck over there. And thread #85 on how bad the team is.

Just do the world a favor and give up the ghost,Skeebs. Find another team to follow. Your incessant whining about Hed is d, and Bullit/nofear’s aychophantism is sickening.

    • 12th man says:

Spitty can’t be there, he said he would stop being a Niner fan and only follow Harbaugh if Harbaugh left…

  17. Winder says:

I don’t care who we draft as long as they play good. Though I still hope we go defense for the most part.

  18. NJ49er says:

And… from the World of Stupid, comes another bonehead, looking to become rich on Thursday night.

Shane Ray just lost some coin.

  19. Nipper says:

At least on this blog we’re Skeebs free.

  20. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, hard to fathom these guys literally pissing away millions by getting stoned/drunk/rowdy this close to the draft.

  21. unca_chuck says:

Got that right, Nipper. A Bullit-free zone as well. That stupid little fucking turd blossom is a fucking retarded stump. All he does is lurk like the pussy that he is. Well, lurk away, chickenshit candy-ass fuckwad. And hide under Skeebers skirt.
