Through all the turmoil of this offseason, and who isn’t weighing in on it, the 49ers have a chance to at least get some more production out of their anemic offense.
The team doesn’t need to dramatically alter their plans. All they need yo to is pick up the pace on getting plays in, and run a faster tempo. This woul help with defenses getting settled in every play, and hopefully lead to a more dynamic offense.
Steve Logan, our new QB coach, is very well-versed in the West Coast offense, having taught it at ECU and other stops in his coaching career. Faster plays also jives with. Colim Kaepernick’s offense that he ran in college. Quick hitters with midrange a passes coming off that.
The question to me is was and will be the Geepster. He’s had a long and varied career in the background but now he’s at the forefront of an offense that has been stale, yet the perception is that he’s really in the hot seat. No shit, eh??
Out there in Talking-head-land the perception is one of ridicule and disdain for what the team just went through. Frankly, it’s a load of horseshit. This team needed a new offense in the least. I’m sorry to see Fangio go, but then again, I think the defense should be fine with our injured guys coming back, and a new crop of draft picks.
So all they need to do is gain more consistency and get better at sustaining drives. Hopefully this idea of 4 different coaches calling plays based on down, distance, and field position is long gone. It’s a wonder they moved the ball at all. But it certainly explains the disjointed nature of the offense.

Speaking of Dennis, I’m starting to worry about him. Haven’t heard a peep out of him.
Dennis is fine. I talked to him today. He hasn’t had a drink since the Super Bowl, I think he has too much blood in his alcohol system!
I hope he has plenty of sawdust to land on. Even not drinking from the Super Bowl he still must be wobbly! I bet he hates sunlight. Keep the curtains drawn, Dennis.

2012 is certainly the low water mark for Baalke and the draft.
Seriously. Even on a loaded team with good backups he should have found some contributors. Head shaker when compared to some of his other drafts and Borland went against his stated draft size preferences.
Baalke goes after big in size with long arms for the position, just like McCloughan. Difference is Baalke will jump off of that stance for somebody who jumps off the charts, for example, Borland.
Yeah go figure Baakle drafting Borland, Bergs.

Borland was a steal. As was Lynch. For different reasons.
I wonder if they take a shot at D-G-Beckham. He sounded like he was getting his shit together but who knows? The dude is a flat out monster. Hard to pass him up if he’s there.
Then again I like Jaelen Strong as well. Lots of DTs as well.

Hey Berger, thanks for posting the Tomsula interview. I feel better about him after watching it. Not that he said anything profound or revealed much about how he’s going to run the team, but he seemed more comfortable in the role and that’s a good thing. Clearly, the whole Niner staff is in full evaluation mode and they got a late start on it, so patience on our part is key.
He’s doing right now what I think he loves the most, looking at and grading young players and figuring out which guys are best for the team; you know, football stuff. After non-stop negativity, plenty of which I took part in, I’m ready to give these guys a chance and see how things shake out.
Outside of some excessive coughing, he sounded good to me. 🙂

Yeah, condemning this staff before they hit the field is ridiculous. We still have a great core of players that probably don’t need a whole lot of prodding to be coached up. I hope Gore signs but even if he does his carrying the team days are over. To me the most important aspect is to get creative on offense at least so opposing D’s are on their heels at times. It really all comes down to Kappy and whether we can build an offensive scheme that can really utilize his talents. I still think he can be the best QB in the league.
I feel good about this staff. The offense does not have to be so much creative as it just needs to make sense. I think the only thing RoBaugh really knows how to call is the Jumbo.
I have agree about Kap. I think he is a heck of a QB. I can’t wait to see what he does in an offense with a little rhythm.
Yeah, it’s a bit early to be bailing on the team. I ain;t sold on Chryst, but I certainly think they can do better on offense than they did last year. Logan i think can bring some quickness to this slow motion offense.
Sat on a bar stool next to a guy wearing a Niner hat at lunch today. He saw my hat and we got talking. He asked my what I thought of the Harbaugh deal. I told him I was kinda sorry to see him go but that it seemed like he had run his course.
Turns out this guy knew Harbaugh personally, played basketball with him at Michigan. He said Harbaugh was ultra competitive and a complete asshole. Says the only surprise for him was that he lasted 4 years and expects the same to happen at Michigan. He did agree its hard to argue with the first 3 years success.
Nothing new in any of that except it was a first hand account of Harbaugh the man. Interesting all the same.
Great story. No surprise. But I still like Harby. I do think he had reach his acme of effectiveness and would have continued to regress.

After s year of ignoring reports of trouble within the team, they glom on to Tomsula’s first presser as the sign that the dark ages are upon us. The national media has their little laugh at Tomsula’s expense while Skeebs and co ignore the actual team news. Like babies playing with a set of car keys.

Harbaugh of course. Harbaugh was an ass-hole but he was once our ass-hole. Now he is Michigan’s ass-hole.
Bill Walsh was not exactly Mother Teresa. So, Harbs being an a-ho is no surprise when it comes to successful coaching. The thing is, Walsh had a foil in Eddie D., and vice versa. Both were pricks, in their own way. But, they put their different skills together, and with the help of a keen football mind in John McVay, and then Carmen as a kind of whip smart referree, they all worked it out to great success. Harbaugh didn’t have the other side of the see saw to balance against. Plus, he didn’t have the offensive mind of Bill to make best use of the team talent, IMO. Harbaugh has the ghost of Schembechler. Bill was influenced by guys like Paul Brown, Al Davis and Sid Gillman. Which of those two influence trees generates an expansive offensive mind?…
Sorry Nip, Seifert managed to take a great team and keep it relevant, He won 2 Super Bowls 5 years apart. He doesn’t get his due, and Harbaugh gets too much.
12th, that story pretty much fits with everything I’ve heard about Harbaugh. Great guy to go to battle with (figuratively of course) but he eventually grinds you down.
Clearly Seifert. He’s way underrated as a head coach. As a defensive coach, he’s near the top in history. Throughout the 80’s, the 49ers defense was overlooked, when the truth was they usually had among the best units in the league. Thank Seifert for that.
