Through all the turmoil of this offseason, and who isn’t weighing in on it, the 49ers have a chance to at least get some more production out of their anemic offense.
The team doesn’t need to dramatically alter their plans. All they need yo to is pick up the pace on getting plays in, and run a faster tempo. This woul help with defenses getting settled in every play, and hopefully lead to a more dynamic offense.
Steve Logan, our new QB coach, is very well-versed in the West Coast offense, having taught it at ECU and other stops in his coaching career. Faster plays also jives with. Colim Kaepernick’s offense that he ran in college. Quick hitters with midrange a passes coming off that.
The question to me is was and will be the Geepster. He’s had a long and varied career in the background but now he’s at the forefront of an offense that has been stale, yet the perception is that he’s really in the hot seat. No shit, eh??
Out there in Talking-head-land the perception is one of ridicule and disdain for what the team just went through. Frankly, it’s a load of horseshit. This team needed a new offense in the least. I’m sorry to see Fangio go, but then again, I think the defense should be fine with our injured guys coming back, and a new crop of draft picks.
So all they need to do is gain more consistency and get better at sustaining drives. Hopefully this idea of 4 different coaches calling plays based on down, distance, and field position is long gone. It’s a wonder they moved the ball at all. But it certainly explains the disjointed nature of the offense.

The offense can’t be much worse. There was little or nothing to lose on the offensive side of the ball by gutting the coaching staff.
On defense, our numbers were great but anybody except the numbers people can plainly see that our conservative approach on defense wore our players out more than necessary by the 4th quarter. I read that the new staff is going to go after the QB more often and is generally going to be more aggressive. I’m all for that. It means we will probably give up a few more big plays but we should also get the ball to the offense more often and keep the defense a little less tired in the 4th quarter. We’ll see if that is indeed what happens.
I’m excited about the new staff and the upcoming season. I knew with the old coaching staff we might make the play-offs but not be a legitimate contender. This new staff should be able to that but if things fall into place we could be great again. I just can’t see that would have happened under Harbaugh. His cycle was fading fast.

We need a couple corners if we are going to ratchet up the blitzes.
And yeah, I was perplexed by the seeming random nature of Fangio’s deciding when to bring pressure. Letting Manning stand in the pocket with little to no stunting or blitzing was crazy after doing in the entire Ram game the week before.
The pass rush flat disappeared too many games.
Fangio’s blitzes often left the hot read uncovered. It used to drive me nuts. While so many were going gaga over the statistics and how were a top ten defense I was just wanting to get off the field.
In the Raiders game it was frustrating as hell watching Carr have all day to throw as he kept getting just enough yards for 1st downs. They just played keep away with our offense. We did blitz some but left the hot read open for many first downs. I was OK with Fangio staying or leaving. Overall he is a good DC but he has some holes in his game plan that allowed opposing defenses to get a nice rhythm going too often for sustained drives. Many drives didn’t score but they consumed a lot of clock.
The best and 1st AZ games were similar in that the pass rush was effective early and hen gone . Cutler had no business coming back on us.
This Draft Class is deepest in DLine talent.
Add some speed off the edge, a plugger inside, maybe an extra LB, and things could look more pleasant, in terms of harassing the opposing QB.

As a talent evaluator, Baalke seems to have a better eye for the Defensive side of the ball anyway.

ILB Taiwan Jones from MI State. 6’3″/258
One of the bigger ILBs this year. I’ve got him on my Wish List already.
I want to see him move around but, he’s got excellent stats thus far.
Might be a nice piece, to put behind Patrick and NaVorro to develop.

In a class full of undersized inside linebackers, Jones bucks the trend. He’s a big, powerful body type paired with very long arms. The thick and explosive downhill linebacker played safety, running back, wide receiver and quarterback in high school.
Weighed just 205 pounds as a true freshman in 2011, and finished with 18 total tackles. As a sophomore, he made four starts and had 38 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one sack, including 10 tackles in his first career start vs Iowa. He started 13 of 14 games in 2013, finishing with 67 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Moved to inside linebacker for the No.1-ranked run defense in 2014, totaling 60 tackles, 12.5 TFL, four sacks, two passes broken up, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Jones is a true downhill linebacker with more than enough length, strength and girth to come in and start immediately for a NFL team running a 3-4 defense. With better field awareness, he could develop into a solid starter in a scheme that requires him to primarily focus on the run game. “
We already know Baalke likes the kids with the big wingspans too.
Taiwan might be a slam-dunk?
Size-wise, he’s about identical to Ahmad Brooks too.
The WR from OU, Dorial Green-Beckham will be there too.
Kid is a freak, size-wise, 6’5″/225
Problem is, he’s a character risk.
Seems like another Dez Bryant prospect to me.

At least I might have a chance to see how he looks in the drills.
Seen many Mocks where they feel like Baalke will take the risk on him.
I ain’t so sure but, I guess Baalke will at least give him an opportunity to interview.

Is it really that friggin’ hard to find a fast dude who can run routes and catch the dang ball? Most every other team seems to be able to do it at least once. Hell, I saw Keenan Allen about 3 oe 4 games live at Cal and knew about 1/2 way into game 1 that the kid was special, and would be a good pro. He made his half brother Maynard, a crappy QB, look really good. I said here they should draft him. But, Baalke passed him up…

He’s a tad short for DE but, he’s apparently played multiple positions on the DL including OLB.
Kid is a terror in the backfield.
I’d be very surprised to see him get out of the top 10 but, you never know?
I’ve also noticed that one of ‘throwing QBs’ in Indy is E Carolina QB, Shane Carden – 6’2″/221

INTs are a little high but, he obviously takes a lot of chances.

Good size but, not much in terms of stats.
I’ve compared him to Henry Anderson from Stanford.
I’ve gotta give the nod to Anderson, simply on production.

Armstead – 87 TKL 10.0 TFL 4.0 SACKS
Anderson did play in 9 more games though.
Either way, DEs are plentiful this year.

G-Beckham looks like a major stud. Not sure what the off-field issues were though.
Jaelen Strong looks good too . 6’3″. 212. Not sure of his 40 time. Put up good numbers at ASU.

Tony Lippet (mich St) may be a good mid round guy to go after. 6’3″ 195 he’s a great leader and would be a nice red zone target. Not finding too many speed guys but a lot of long strong WRs.

That’s a hoot ……first question was about his abysmal introductory news conference which he admitted he did poorly. The media never lets up.
I thought it was interesting when he said every coach on the staff was his choice. He basically told the Tin Foil Hat brigade that Baalke did not hire his coaches. Be prepared for the Tin Foil Hatters to disregard that statement and give reasons that it is not true so they won’t be perceived as losing their precious credibility in their own minds. Probably Cohn, Killian and Kawakami will try to just ignore that line from the presser if they don’t try to explain it away.
I get the impression he just says “yes, sir” when Baalke and his staff approach him.
If anything Tomsula has his cough down good trying to talk, needs to work on a few snot-rockets as well..
