Rounds 2 and 3 . . . Everybody Happy?

Today’s festivities start at 3:30 pacific time.

To synopsize yesterday, no one is very happy thast Trent Baalke and the 49ers picked what is basically a 3rd down nickel DB in Jimmy Ward. It may not be terribly horrible if he’s on the field 75% of the time, as teams like the Rams will be throwing a lot, but I can’t see him taking down, say, Marshawn Lynch in the open field without being removed from the field with a spatula. Yes, there are a lot of teams that throw in the league, but there are also teams like Seattle who wear down teams by grinding games out. I don’t see Ward being a factor in the immediate, or even long-term future.

Let’s just say I agree to disagree at this point. But I ain’t too thrilled with Baalke right now.

And to summarize the draft today, the Niners hold the following picks:

2nd round – 24 – (56th overall – from KC)
2nd round – 29 – (61st overall)
3rd round – 13 – (77 overall – from the Tits)

  1. Chuck, you have the unmitigated gall and audacity to ask if 49er fans are happy with that pick? The answer to that question, the answer the entire NFL replied when we selected Jimmie Ward..

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Call me perplexed and underwhelmed. We just drafted for the same position we traded up for last year. Free Safety. Jimmy Ward is too small for Strong Safety, and Reid is our Free Safety. Antoine Bethea is getting up there, but he’s a Strong Safety. Do we plan on converting this guy to a CB?

Manziel is just begging to be a major overrated flop. One can hope. I don;t think his game translates as well as a guy like Bortles does. They got Gilbert though. With Joe Haden, they should be pretty good defensively.

Ahhh fuck. I don;t know. With Tuitt on the board, and even Roby or Nix, I think they could really have done better than this curious at best pick.

Why does this guy generate so much buzz? He;s pretty much a hype machine. The anti-Tim Tebow.

    • Why all the Johnny Football hate from you and many others? Does Johnny love the spotlight and take advantage all of the attention? Of course. Who wouldn’t? Johnny just plays it up to the hilt.

Did you watch Johnny play at A&M? Johnny Football perfected magic before Houdini. Reminds me of the 1953 movie named in his honor. Wasn’t the best biography by a long shot, but I love me some Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

Abracadabra and Hocus Pocus, here’s Johnny…

I mean if you are going safety, trade up for Pryor. This smells like another envelope pick where they had this guy in their spot regardless of who was available.

    And Mayock blows another load.

I guess we’ll get to see what the hell is going on, but this one is baffling to say the least.

  4. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

What a pick! Our new Corner! Yes!

  5. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Baffling? Trent Baalke sucks. Someone explain these measurables to me…. anyone, please. 5′ 10″, 193 pounds and he runs a 4.45? He’s not fast. He’s small. And he’s from a small school?

Whiskey. Tango. MOTHER FUCKIN’ Foxtrot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

And I watched his tape. He’s nothing special. Nothing jumped out at me. This kid is a third round draft choice. He’s a third rounder. AJ Jenkins was a second rounder. How’d he turn out? Trent Baalke sucks. Fuck Trent Baalke.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

They have to be thinking about moving this guy to corner. Other than that I got nothing.

Baalke certainly has his own way of doing this shit. Can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Or can I? Sheist. Baalke is pretty much all or nothing.

  7. Chuck, are you putting Johnny Football and Tebow in the same category? Replay the Nelson response. OK. No one knows the QB draft outcomes. But we do know that most of the 1st rounders are a big swing and a……………………miss?

I’m banking and betting on that Johnny Football makes better contact then Bortels and Bridewater.

The Dog Pound already loves ’em… Johnny Football is a Home Run.

  8. 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

Maiocco suggests Ward could be the nickel back playing the slot if he wins the spot in TC.

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yup. Romo and Johnny Footfetish. All hat, no cattle.

The factory of sadness just got a new foreman.

Like I said, Ward ain’t here as a safety. He’s barely a tweener. Slot corner?

    I don’t fucking know,

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Come on Giants. Gimme one here.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

      Two!

And yes, Dennis. I don;t think Johnny Footfreak does very well. Cleveland? They always look good on paper. Then they take the field.

Hey, they could be this year’s Chiefs. but I don;t think so.

  11. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Fuck Trent Baalke. A 5 foot 10 inch safety who weighs 193 pounds and played on a division IV team? Maybe division VI. That kid may be serviceable, but a starter? Defending Jimmy Graham up high? Tackling Vernon Davis? Tipping the ball away from Crabtree in the endzone because he’s tall enough to do so? No. fuckin’. chance. This is horrid pick. Worst pick I’ve seen since…. since…. the Terry Donahue years. Fuck Trent Baalke. Tomorrow he better draft Reggie White, Larry Allen and Joe Montana. He’s dug himself, and this team, a huge hole we now need to climb out of to make this draft a successful one. And didn’t the NFL move the draft back to give GMs more time? How’d that work out for ya, Jed York?

  12. That’s why I as much as I love Berger to death and try to tell him that his ousting of Roman won’t change a goddamn thing. You wanna change the play calling on this offense? We have to expel the Head Honcho, Top Dog, Big Cheese and the biggest goddamn problem that confronts this offense…

Did we fire Jim Harbaugh yet?

    • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Del – Do you know who Seattle drafted in 2012? Bruce Irvin, starting linebacker Bobby Wagner, Russel Wilson and Robert Turbin. How much did those guys contribute to the 2013 Super Bowl? How much did they help Pete Carrol get a ring? A lot.

Now compare that to what Baalke handed Jim Harbaugh to work with in 2012. Actually, handed isn’t the right word. Handcuffed is more like it. And you blame Jim Harbaugh? The answer is right in front of your face, Del. Jimmy Ward? And you blame Harbaugh? You aren’t paying attention. When Seattle was going out and getting Irvin, Wagner, Russel Wilson and Robert Turbin, Trent Baalke was drafting AJ Jenkins, LaMicheal James, Joe Looney, Darius Flemming and Trenton Robinson. There’s your problem. It’s staring you right in the face.

It’s hard for Harbaugh to win when one GM is putting bullets in Pete Carrol’s gun while Trent Baalke is putting blanks in Harbaugh’s.

Jimmy Fuckn’ Ward? What the fuck?

  13. It’s a quarter to three…

  14. I know you people hate to hear this again, but as I look to my left I have a gold-plated limited edition Frank Sinatra ‘New York, New York” 45 album hanging on my wall. The intrinsic value of that 45 matters not. But hearing that song reminds me of Mom.

Happy early Mothers Day Mom. This song is for you…

  15. Shhh. It’s 6:30 in the morning on a who gives a shit Friday.

    Survey says…Bring back Richard Dawson.
    Love me some Hogan’s Hero’s.

  16. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Trent Baalke sucks. Jim Harbaugh is not the problem.

  17. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Last night Trent Baalke was exposed as a bad talent elevator and GM. Period.

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

This certainly raises the spectre of the AJ Jenkins envelope draft, as this guy was rated as a low 2 and we get him in the 1st round? My hope is now we get SJ Baptiste to salvage the defensive backfield.

Fucking Ward will be a 3rd down nickel corner at best. Or a flat bust. HJow will he see the field as a safety?

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Culliver and Brock are OK, but I can’t see us standing pat in the defensive backfield.

  20. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

The Giants won a game! No one knew!
