3rd and Gone

The Jauan Jennings era is done. The almost-MVP (fuuuuuuck!!!) of Super Bowl 58 way back in 2024 signed with the Vikings for 1 year/$13 mill. Solid guy who was tenacious after the catch and a beast blocking. The seemingly studly WR group of BA, JJ, and Deebo is all gone. Replaced by Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, Ricky Pearsall, and De’Zhaun Stribling. Seeing that Brocky Purdy has thrown to only one of these guys might be a challenge, but hey that’s what camp is for.

Not quite sure what is going on with the WRs on this team, but that number is fairly small and I wonder if we even tried to keep him. Dude always came through in the clutch and was there for a lot of big plays. Up to and including a TD pass in the Super Bowl. What’s the deal?

I tell ya, of all the coaches on the team, I’ve never heard the name Leonard Hankerson ever come up. Yes, he’s the WR coach/passing game coordinator. Never heard of him as a player either. He was a WR for the Redskins, Falcons, Pats, and Bills for 5 years. If he was the problem, you’d think something would have come out. Weird. Don’t know.

And hey! The Giants got their weekly victory!

Unfortunate. Seemed to be able to get open and make grab when most needed, a skill in itself.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

I liked Jennings a lot he played the type of 49er football that I like. I wish him luck. But he is just another in a long line of receivers to try and put the screws to us. Looks like our FO has finally gotten smart, he signed for about half of what he wanted from us and only got a year.

Giants traded bailey?? I love the young guys we have but they have a crazy low number of at bats. Now if they cool off we have a young guy can’t hit but also isn’t the best defensive catcher in the NL, may be all MLB. Smells like a panic move. Not saying we don’t need to panic, but Posey better hope these kids keep hitting!

  3. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Passan says Guardians are getting Bailey for upcoming draft pick #29 and a pitching prospect. wow that didn’t take long; guess they roll with Rodriguez and Susac.

  4. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah could see it coming but still shocking.Bailey’s bat just can’t cut it anymore, u get a 29th first rd pick? take it the draft is always a crap shoot…Susac&Rodriguez the new breed and both can hit.Their gonna give up defense behind the dish during the season but so what if these 2 can help the offense.
Haase is no slouch to have around with his extra major league experience, they just don’t need 3 catchers up here right now..

  5. Snarkk's avatar Snarkk says:

    Buster had seen enough.

Of Bailey flailing at the bat.

Of Rodriguez smoking at the bat.

The measly return from Cleveland is all you need to know that this trade has to be made.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

A 1st round pick and a tugboat is a pretty good return in my book.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

For a multiple gold glove player, a late first round pick in the Giants hands is ethereal and as valuable as a handful of air. I surmised late last season that the use of the ABS this season would de-value the linguini-bat Bailey, and it has come to pass…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I’m more interested in the ID of the prospect. Something real or a long shot?…

  7. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I think it’s possible we move some of our big ticket players also. I am thinking rebuild. But we shall see. We have just got to start drafting better players.

  8. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Jennings shot himself in the foot, or his agent Rosenhouse pulled the trigger. Not everyone agrees with me but Jennings is a number 3 WR. That has nothing to do with his value on the team but everything to do with where he can line up and be effective. He was a great WR 3 who got pushed up to a WR 2 where he was still effective and at times a WR 1 where he really limited the plays because he is really slow.

Based off of his being forced into a WR1 or 2 position because of injuries he mistakenly believed he was due that value of money and he held the Niners to ransom by not showing up to camps and pre-season to try to get a $25m per year contract. Obviously that didn’t happen but he did get a couple of million bump ending up at $13m. The Niners discussed signing him to a 2 year @ $17m per contract extension which apparently Jennings was insulted by and that was the end of his time with the Niners.

He then sat and waited for the big offers to flow in, which they didn’t because he is a WR 3 and was in a Shanahan scheme and eventually he signed an $8m one year contract with The Vikings with incentives that can max at $13m.

Jennings turned down a more than double dollar offer with the Niners. Dumb.

He wanted to find out his value in the league and thats exactly what happened.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

His contract is for 8 mil and the rest are incentives. But I think he’s gonna have a lot of competition catching balls with the WR room the Vikes have.

  9. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah Jennings overestimated his value among all teams around the league and in the end got screwed by his agent as well and took an 8M 1 year deal with incentives to push it up to 13M . Always liked him he was tenacious, great in your face blocker as well. Hes in a real wake up call now with the Vikings getting looks with Jefferson/Addison,Hockenson first in line but shit that QB situation is the real issue with McCarthy and Midget Murray who will probably be the starter..

  10. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Hey you need a Tugboat(great nickname now my favorite Giant)in the cove Wilkenson a lefty pitcher that has good stats plus a first rd pick giving them number 5,29&55 in the first 60 picks in a draft class rated high works for me i think Posey fleeced the Guardians in this deal for Bailey and Guardians Catchers situation stinks with no hitters Austin Hedges lol, Bailey now and they sent Naylor down cause he can’t hit either..

  11. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Bailey still has value imo and ABS isn’t the problem; he uses it to help out his pitchers when necessary. There was a game recently where he threw out 3 different runners; that’s essence of helping pitching staff and defensive runs saved. It’s too bad his bat has been so bad and rest of team is struggling to score runs as a whole.

That’s Vogt that traded for him and Guards are in even worse shape than SF for catching.

susac has been decent hitter in minors in A’s system but Coast League stats are always inflated. And he has total of 24 ML at bats.

  12. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Missed a good game last night it seems (have the flu or a cold, so went to bed early). Love this trade – not so much for what we got, but because Buster is fed up with most of these players. THIS IS A MESSAGE TO THE PLAYERS FLAPPERS.

Buster promoting Eldridge and getting rid of Encarnacion are other examples. I could give 2 shits if it looks like he’s throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. He’s doing something and I like it.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Besides, be honest with yourself – did you really expect to get another All Star, Gold glove player/elite draft choice for Bailey? Of course not. You’re remembering when he had positive WAR (.8 2023, 1.7 2024, 1.1 2025) . . . This year? He was -.2 WAR.

Giants can’t afford to have a hologram batting 4 to 5 times a game.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

        blade, totally agree.

plus, the ABS definitely has degraded Bailey’s value. KNBR the other day noted Webb had over the last full 3 seasons, 25% more called strikes that were NOT really strikes than the next highest pitcher who benefited from that strike stealing. This season, Webb is not even near the top in that stat. Bailey has a good arm, but that is not going to keep you and your non-existent bat on a team at / near the bottom of all offensive stats in all of MLB.

  13. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

And the Ironman pitcher Logan Webb’s 156 straight starts is over with right knee bursitis going on the DL (15days) not surprising all Flappers knew he wasn’t right!

Giants recalled Trevor McDonald to take his spot which is fine with me after his last great start.

  14. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Next on the trade block, Robbie Ray.

His contract is up at end this season. Barring injury and/or cratering stats this season (W/L record means nothing as a starter on the moribund Giants) he will enter the off season as a popular free agent target. SF will certainly NOT be in the running to sign him to a LT expensive deal.

So, the Giants should trade his ass soon before he gets an injury, and get more players, not picks. Keep in mind Rodriguez, whose appearance just spelled the end of Bailey, was part of the return on last years Doval trade with the Yankees. Buster hopefully won’t keep Ray for a non-existent playoff run and get nothing in return (maybe a compensatory pick? which is again, as valuable as air to the bad-drafting Giants) like Farhan did with Bum and Snell…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Yeah, Ray has value now – need to hurry on this NLT trade deadline. Definitely before he gets injured as you pointed out.

Frankly, this season is shot. Buster realizes that and he is all about addressing whom is on the field next season. I am expecting more deals prior to the trade deadline.

  15. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

Good move, and it’s only the start. Some will be traded because they’re too good for SF to sign long-term (Ray) and they can get something of value now, and others will be traded because G’s need to upgrade those positions. This is where we see how good Buster is. Sabes wasn’t shy to make big trades, while Farhan didn’t seem very good at it. I think it’ll be one of Buster’s main arrows in his sling… And agree, it sends a message …

  16. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Chapman 0 for 19 or is it 20, in his last 5 games???

    • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

Yeah, at the time, I liked Buster’s long-term contract to Chapman, to start building an enduring team, but he ain’t all that offensively after all. Defense is great. I’d be fine with trading him, giving 3rd base to Schmitt, and getting something good back. Only will happen if team eats high % of his salary, which I’m not sure they’d be willing to do…

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Agree Paul. We will indeed take a loss if he is traded. I actually hated this signing when it occurred. On the other hand, I was cheering the Adames signing. In fact, suggested that the Giants do it at least 3-4 times on the Flap before it occurred. So, not only did Adames face plant, but I did too. lol

  17. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Vitello fascination with Borucki is beyond me.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Not only that Willie, but his tendency to let his bench marinate on the bench for what seems like multiple games.*

      * Note to Paul – mea culpa for supporting the hiring of this obviously overmatched college coach. Sheesh, what desparation does to our psyches?.?!..!?

  18. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Roupp dug his own grave and Pirates to their credit made him work extra hard by fouling off good pitches.

but at 0-0 this is high leverage situation, and you’ve got worst guy in pen in there with runners on base. whom he proceeds to let score.

  19. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

0 for 28, so I was wrong about Chapman’s 0 for 20. Anyway, nice hit.

  20. Macdog's avatar Macdog says:

Borucki & Walker, what could possibly go wrong?

  21. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Borucki is sucki. Repetitive, but true.

Walker, just is… I asked for him to be DFA’d or put on the IL after the last debacle. After this one, what more can I say? He’s horrific, has no clue where he’s throwing the ball. He has to be mentally fried.

K, Walk, wild pitch, single with runner scoring, hitter moves to 2nd on lousy throw in, single with runner scoring after horrible throw from outfield and the hitter moves to second, then Walker taken out after probably losing the game for the team. Again. Oh, and the Bucs have about twice as many walks as the Giants so far this season. That is crazy.

Wash, rinse, pitch and play like crap, lose, repeat…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Seriously, is there nobody down in Sac that can take Walker’s place and do better than this S? What do we have down there, a bunch of sore arms?

  22. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Another sign of a stupid, dumbass team is when Roupp had that really taxing, long-ass 20+ pitch second to last inning of his stint tonight — after he closed it out the Giants hitters followed by a speedy, brainless 3 and out, in a total of 8 pitches — going down super quickly in order like they were late for a hooker appointment. Nobody took a couple of pitches to give Roupp a rest. IDK if Vitello told anybody to take a pitch or two or call the one time out allowed per AB, or what. Just do anything to give Roupp more of a breather Inexcusable IMO and just another unmistakable sign of a bad team that from soup to nuts doesn’t play the game properly …

  23. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    OMG, Ramos again.

Can anybody here play this game ? …

  24. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Paul, be thankful you’re on some beach in Vietnam, with a mai tai or some other tropical drink.

  25. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

I hadn’t really formed any opinions yet on Vitello, giving him time to see what he can do, but continuing to bring in Borucki and Walker is just too stoopid to be believable….

  26. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Now, I know why Santos was looking to the sky, praying, when he came in to pitch from the bullpen . . . lqtm

  27. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

It’s contagious!!!!!!!! Santos has the yips now too.

  28. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

This is so, so bad it’s comical. Except if you are there and paid hundreds of dollars to watch this absolute debacle…

  29. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

Sorry, in addition to Borucki and Walker, I forgot Brubaker. Oh, sure, add Santos to the list. My goodness….

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Don’t believe anything you see on Gamecast Paul. For example, Santos was gifted a single by the official scorer on what clearly was a fielding error.
