I know this is a Niners blog but holy fuck. Instead of being 15-16, the Giants fell to 13-18 by gagging away 2 games in Philly yesterday. Ryan Walker blew the 1st game by giving up 2 in the 9th and one of our no-name relievers gave away the 2nd one. I need to see how they fucked that one up as I was out to dinner, but it sounded bad as we had a shot to go ahead and Windy Hoo was held up from scoring, and we gave up the winner in the 10th.
This Giants team is hard to watch as of now as they either can’t hit or can’t pitch. There is no consistency and we’ve all said all a long they didn’t do enough with the pitching.
This is on Buster for not pushing hard enough on Greggie to get more immediate help. The farm certainly looks like there is no immediate help there either.
Yes, you build from the farm up, but you can do more than Mahler and fucking Doogie to help the rotation. And Bofucki in the pen has run his course.
One other thing . . . Fuck this writer. His birth certificate should be an apology letter from a condom factory. What a tool.
Buster is a winner AND NEVER PANICS.

The writer, Kurtenbach, is known for his smart-ass, negative slant on everything, regardless of the sport. He’s the younger version of Ray Ratto, who played the negativity schtick for years in Bay Area print media and on KNBR. I sat across from him on a plane once — about 5-7 and a BMI in the stratosphere. IDK where he is now, and don’t care. I tend to the negative side particularly with the Giants, but there’s a reason for that the last decade. Some of these media clowns were finding bad stuff against the Dubs when they were on their 10-year dynasty run. Now, that was nuts.
Anyway, I agree with you on the column’s premise. Buster is trying to clean up a mess YEARS in the making, a decade. Nobody said it would be EZ. Maybe he’s started on a wrong path, maybe he’s not, but I hope against hope he can do what he wants to do for the next several years against an ownership that clearly has not cared about fielding a winning team and drafting/developing talent, as long as there is massive turnover in the till…
I actually agreed with this guy, except for him pointing the finger at Buster. This guy’s negative slant is directed at the wrong person . . . He should be doing weekly columns on Johnson and the rest of their MAGA ownership.
I can’t argue with anything anyone has said here about the FO being solely to blame for this line up. In the throes of a 6 game losing streak it’s hard to see positives. However, I will point out Schmidt’s bat is finally coming around and it’s probably because of all the playing time he has been getting. I’d hate to see him regress because he loses those at bats due to Eldridge’s appearance. Where are they gonna put Schmidt?
I like Unca’s suggestion at 8:08pm last night. Sit both of those MOFOS, or/along with Chapman too. All of them have been worthless to date.
Agreed. But, in reality, they’ll never sit the big-contract guys.
True BB . . . Just me writing what I truly feel. Of course, it wont happen.
Glad you guys are here. I have no one to complain / be sad / be angry about after watching the last 5 games. Awful!
Hey There Sports Dude! Yeah, for better part of 15+ years I’ve taken so much solace from daily reading/engaging Flap. Infinite thanks to Chuck for giving us orphans at least a temporary home. Especially so in these dark times, I’d be losing my mind and embarking on a tri-state killing spree if I didn’t have this! LOL!
Awful:)
Re Posey.. Some of the responsibility is on him. We blamed farhan for every bad player, bad trade etc. Posey deserves the same.
Sure, but look at 2021–we had Solano Wade Ruf dickerson Flores and BC…farm still hadn’t replaced Pillar and LF continued to be rotating cast of stiffs. by time BC had all aged out (and Posey retired), who was left?
They’ve never developed SS since Craw, or an every day C ,or any decent OFs. Slater Grave dugger, Luis Gonzalez Sabol…collection of stiffs like Fitzy Wisely Matos McCray. List is endless. You can’t just go out and buy all the FAs you need every year. Somebody on MCC (Lex maybe) said how much they liked Rays speedy LF Simpson–why is it Giants don’t have someone like that, and haven’t for years except for guys now in AA ball?
Speaking of development, remember a short while back when the Giants were playing Miami and their SS Otto Lopez was flashing the glove and bat and making life miserable for the Giants?
Otto is 27, and an ex-Giant. He was in the SF system for a short time in early 2024 after the Giants under Farhan acquired him from Toronto for cash considerations. He had a cup of coffee with SF in the 2024 Spring training, then he got sent down to AAA Sac and before he could figure out where the hell Sac was, Farhan and crew (Minasian was on board then) released him, and Miami picked him up for nothing. Now he’s the starting SS for the Marlins and playing the hell outta the position, with BA of .330+ near the top of the NL and a darned good glove to boot.
So, instead of recognizing that this kid had potential and checking him out for a while for development, the Giants “brain trust” almost immediately after acquiring him kicked him to the curb, and let Miami do the development. Now the Marlins have a young, solid SS for the foreseeable future. The Giants went instead after the 2024 season to paying 4-years older Adames $180 million — a kool-aid cooler throwing, wildly inconsistent fielder and hitter. The Giants organization’s decade- long woes right there in a nutshell…

BTW, the Giants at the time they had Lopez, were still dicking around with Luciano, 6+ years into his time with the organization. They dumped Lopez like a hot rock, and then finally dumped Luciano much later — in the off season of 2024. Definition of inept identification and development of players…
I get that the baseball draft is a crap shoot of epic proportions, and player development takes time. But this team really has been terrible since the 90s but for 5 years of amazing drafts by Sabean. Buster has some leeway as far as his picks go mainly because they take so long to develop and he’s only done 2 drafts.
But guys like Duvall and Reynolds have slipped through their hands, and no one they call up, be they 22 or 28, seem to know the basic fundamentals of the game. Timne after time we see baserunning gaffes, throwing the ball to the wrong base, not hitting the cutoff man, when and how to advance runners, on and on.
New thread is up.
