ODB? ODB?!? ODB a Niner???!!!

Got to wonder if the 49ers are secretly in the hunt for Odell Beckham Jr. Not that they’ve even given even a tiny little hint of a possibility of trading for him, but the possibilities would be fairly awesome given the way Jimmy G made Marquise Goodwin look.

We have a lot of picks, but I don’t think he’s worth two 1’s, or whatever the Giants are asking for, but I’d think we could work out some kind of deal. Or not. John Lynch is a bit of a wild man himself, and I could see him pulling something like this off. Beckham here would be something that would elevate the offense to great heights, one would think, and would keep Ol’ Dirty Beckham out of the hands of the Rams. Just a thought, as all the talk of ODB seems to BE around the Rams. While that is all well and good, it makes you wonder what that locker room would look like with Marcus Peters, Aquib Talib, Suh, AND OBD in there? Talk about the inmates running the asylum. that would be a hard ship to steer.

Other than this imaginary scenario, I’d think the Giants would be retarded for trading him. Crazy or no, he’s a great talent. The Giants need a QB more than anything at this point.

  11. Berger's avatar Berger says:

No team has won a SB with a dominant WR since 2000. Maybe you could argue the Colts in 2007? No WR is worth 2 first round picks. I wouldn’t give up more than one 3rd round pick. As far as ODB, he is such a head case I don’t want him for any price.

  12. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Spammy my hammy, I think I caught in the slammy. Either that or I’m suddenly a WR in a Jeff Fisher offense. Release me Chuck.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Whole lot of April fool’s jokes out there (ODB to the Cowboys fior Dez, to NE for Gronk, to the Niners for all our draft picks, etc) but nothing real..

  14. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Something Maiocco posted relative to Shanny in Indy – Holds a LOT of water IMO –

At the NFL scouting combine, Shanahan touched on his philosophy:

“Players watch who you pay. And I want to pay guys who do things the right way. And I also want to pay the best guys — not all overachievers who aren’t that great. They’ve got to be good and they’ve got to do stuff the right way. When you do that, it adds to your team. But if you start paying guys who don’t do that stuff, your team starts saying, ‘OK, we don’t have to listen.’”

Add OBJ to that comment and I’d start thinking OBJ is not worth the kind of money he thinks he’s worth. He’s turned the corner from Dez Blvd onto Look at Me St.
Steal him for a Prove It deal and, I might consider it.
    Other than that? PASS.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Bergs, the dominant WR thing doesn’t mean anything, The Niners won with Jerry Rice and they won without him. Freddie Solomon and Clark were solid, but not spectacular.

Yeah NJ I have a feeling we are gonna be surprised by our draft and I sense that our FO takes a lot of time and are serious with UDFA signings. I would love to have a talent like OBJ but not the diva attitude, he would be perfect for LA.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Knowing what I know of OBJ in the local sense Winder, I can’t help but think the NYG are fed up with his antics.
Josh Norman punked him big time last year and, seems to have opened the window on how to get OBJ off his game. Push him around and, don’t let up.

Now that he’s looking to be paid, (before he reports), just adds that much more drama to an already smoldering pile of bad publicity for the NYG.

Loved OBJ when he came out but, he’s just too big a distraction for a very conservative NYG Org.
There is certainly a good mixture of reasons to think Cleveland in a Trade scenario.
His former College position Coach is there, as well as his former team mate, Jarvis Landry.

Add the abundant Pick surplus to the Cleveland agenda and, it certainly looks favorable from a lot of angles.
Especially with all the ‘Good Vibes’ finally going on for the Browns in general.

Stephens playing 62 games is pretty impressive too.
Most guys don’t see half that much action in College.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

There are so many players with great stats that it seems almost impossible to differentiate between them. The scouts and coaches interviews and meets must be the deciding factors. No one is gonna admit they lack the desire or heart to be a great NFL player so that seems to be the wild card guess.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Agreed Winder. So many guys out there.
All the Scouts do is review game film, travel, compile data etc.
All comes down to what guys play for the love of the competition and, the desire to win.
When you add Millions of buck to that relationship, the combustion factor increases exponentially.
Too many of these College ‘Stars’ simply can’t handle the responsibilities of being paid to play.
Maturity, and Professionalism, are a tough balance for the under 25 crowd, more often than not.

  20. Rob's avatar Robert De Luca says:

    from NFL.com
“Odell Beckham Jr. trade is reasonable for only 3 NFL teams …
    1. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers just paid new franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and extended current No. 1 wideout Marquise Goodwin — he and Pierre Garcon are signed through 2021. The team also splurged on running back Jerick McKinnon in free agency with the intent of giving him a feature role.

So San Francisco is fine offensively without Beckham, right?

Sure, the 49ers can get by and be productive under Kyle Shanahan, but Beckham would take things to a whole new level. The Rams, as revived rivals at the top of the NFC West, have thrown down defensively this offseason. It’s in the 49ers’ growing interest to get Garoppolo all he needs to live up to the hype around him. And they can afford the splash on Beckham.”
