Yeah, this should be good. In what has become an inexorable death march to the depths of hell, the 49ers host the Norlins Saints. A fair to middling team coming off a home victory over the Seahawks. Which likely means another high scoring affair. From them, anyway. Us? Well, hopefully we can put together more than just one good quarter, and play something resembling a complete game. But I digress.
I’m more hoping for the paper bags to come out in full forces. My son and I got a pretty strong reaction from fans, and about 50 pic requests. So, I’m thinking it sparks more reaction. There’s also talk of fly-bys as fans are crowd-funding “Fire Trent” and “Jed Go Home” banners.
At somer point you have to wonder when Jed will cut mommy’s apron strings and run the team without Dr. Death looking over his shoulder. Maybe then he’ll start making sound decisions. Or not. At what point does he become a complete laughingstock? His brand new stadium is already 1/2 empty on game day, and fans are suing for their set licenses back.
Like it fucking matters, but really. At some point, Jed needs to act like he knows and/or cares about the team. Otherwise, he should sell the stadium to the Raiders, and sell the team to Steve Young and Brent Jones.

I’m of the belief that we will NEVER put together a full game for 2 obvious reasons: 1) lack of talent and 2) the players get gassed playing in Kelly’s game plan. You can’t be collectively below average talent AND tired and put together a full game. Ain’t gonna ever happen that way.
Norv Turner resigned as OC of the Vikings. If I am Chip Kelly I hire him right now, give him a phony title if need be, just hire him.

The TB game was not an offensive problem for the first half anyway. The O had the ball most of the time. Until they shot themselves in the foot on 3rd and 4th downs. Then they fumbled the punt to start the 3rd quarter. The shitshow hit full force then.
Lack of talent is killing this team more than anything. 3 drops killed 3 drives. They just make too many mistakes. I don’t blame it on the style of play as much as some of the calls Chip makes, and the porous defense. They cba’t stop a 3rd down play to save their lives. That’s a talent (and injury). Problem.
Agree the run D is the main team problem. Won’t win many games if the other team can walk right down the field and score. The O is very hit and miss, both QB’s have shined and stunk within the same games but Norv is a proven running game OC. If they can get the running game going when the game is still in contention, the pressure on the passing game becomes manageable, even with the thin talent at WR and TE.
The Niners did well with Norv in 2006 all things considered, I would try very hard to sign him, a huge upgrade over Modkins.
I doubt Turner would touch us with a 10ft pole. But if he’s in for a challenge then this is the place. Countdown, Baalky’s still here.

I dream at night now of that QB from Louisville running The Chipster’s read option offense. We’ll need a running back better than or to complement Hyde as all as a couple NFL receivers. But, oh my! Have you seen this guy play? You want points? We’ll score points. Lots of them. Kappy v.2 maybe with a hungrier attitude.
He’s a true soph and draft ineligible, so we’ll have to tank next year, too. Patience, grasshopper. What to draft high this year? How about a couple WRs, an RB, and a couple ILBs. Pass rushing OLBs might have to wait until next year. Oh, and Reno’s nose. So many needs…..

NJ, I don’t know squat about D, but if I did I’d try to draft on need:
1) ILB. What this team needs is a young Patrick Willis.
2) Reno’s nose.
3) Pass rushing OLB. We really need to spend a first rounder on this position, but I’d also say that about ILB, QB, and WR, for starters – only so many first round picks to go around and SOOOO many holes…
I’m looking at Myles Garrett from TX A&M or a couple of the guys from ‘Bama RT.
DT Jonathan Allen or ILB Reuben Foster would do nicely to replace guys like Aldon/Patrick and Cowboy.

I got lost trying to find the campus in Baton Rouge a few years back. I wanted to hit the bookstore (normal for me) and just hit the campus. The interstate offramp confused me and I never did find the campus. I had to settle for Florida St. next day (meh, though nice looking town – worst traffic I’ve ever been in anywhere though, and that’s in a small town, Tallahassee).
Baton Rouge has one thing going for it. The interstate coming twisting and turning and finally showing the state Capitol building and downtown in front with the Gulf of Mexico just to the right from a 100 foot height was pretty damn spectacular. Too bad Lousiana is still in the 17th century. Did you see David Duke at their senate debate? Holy crud, Batman.
I’ve heard about Garrett and I guess at this point it’s a coin flip whether the Brownies choose him or us. I suppose we could do a whole lot worse than getting a pass rushing stud with our first – like drafting A.J. Jenkins, for example lol.
(I lived and worked in ‘Bama for a month at another time. I’ve been trying to forget that month of my life ever since. The movie Forrest Gump sucked because they intentionally deleted the bit from the book where Forrest goes to ‘Bama because Bear Bryant’s “academic standards” are so low he would accept him.)
As a computer consultant, I got stuck installing a computer system I neither designed nor wrote in a poor black town of Bessemer, AL (close to Birmingham). Lousiana actually looked like heaven by comparison when I was able to visit many years later.
I wanted to stay, LOL. Michael Jordan was playing his first game of professional baseball ever as a Birmingham Baron one stinking week after they forced me to leave. You can bet your butt I wanted to stay for that game and then hop on the first plane out of Alabama.

I’ve always been leery of first round picks for WRs too, NJ. I sure wouldn’t spend a top 5 pick on one. But I laughed and laughed at the Falcons for spending two first rounders for Julio Jones. I’m not laughing now. Odell Beckham. Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Antonio Brown …

A great wideout can make an average QB look good, and a good QB look great. Baalke will never in a million years spend another 1st on a WR for one thing. Second is that the Niners have too many holes at present. But I want a great QB/WR combination, with a Crabtree-like 2nd receiver (Crabs #6 overall, no?). If I gotta wait a couple years to get it, oh well, I’m gonna be dead before Jed and Paraag give up control of football operations anyway.
Crabs #10 overall, I was going by memory. Not a bad pick, eh.? The Buccaneers were doubling him, leaving Amari Cooper (#4 overall) 1 on 1 Sunday. Then they had to switch, then switch back, until they never knew what him them. Works for me.

We traded one #1 and drafted Armstead with the other, passing on Derek Carr.
Oops, sloppy researh. They passed on Carr once. The Armstead pick was the one they got for the one they traded – sorry. My sloppiness is making my argument look bad, but I think it’s a good argument. The Raiders’ D isn’t all that much better than the Niners’ but they’re 6-2.
They have a QB and WRs.
A #4, a FA castoff and a 2nd round pick. The Niners O-line is adequate now; it still needs help. TE needs upgrading. But it could turn around quick. Not with Baalke, though. He wouldn’t know a skill position offensive player if it bit him in the ass.
If I had the #1 pick I would take the OLB Garrett from Texas A&M.
Let’s hope Cleveland goes QB and leaves us a shot at Garrett.

Zach Cunningham the OLB from Vandy is already into the Top 20.
He and Foster are similar in size too.
Be worth watching them when the Combines roll around.

RT we’re still holding onto Eric Rogers, who Chip personally sought after he arrived.
Plus, he’s added Streater/Burbridge/Kerley and Keshawn Martin.
As I’ve known for sometime, Baalke is more comfortable with the Defense and needed a HC with Offensive talent to get this roster balanced.
We’ll see if the 2 of them can get this thing back on the rails with the help of Gamble and, (hopefully) the departure of Paraag from the daily meddling.
Kelly needs to have autonomy on the Offensive side of this roster.
It would appear that he’s gotten a voice thus far with the additions of the WRs and Garnett.
Plus Smelter/Harper are in the PS mix now as well.
With any luck Ellington will get himself into better health and contribute in this System too.
Patton is showing some signs of progress, which will only improve with better QB play.
