If I hear another presser from Chip Kelly praising his QB, I’m going to buy a pitchfork and a few torches. By just about every measure, Gabbert sucks. He has had a much cleaner pocket than Kaepernick ever had, and he still misses wide open guys and throws killer picks. He missed two passes in the 1st quarter that would have netted 80 yards at least and cost us a TD. Yeah, there were drops, and can we find a TE that can catch? But other than that, even in this game Gabbert had a clean pocket and had some nice passes through most of it, until the Niners were in desperation mode.
Some don’t cut it though. Yeah, we turned the ball over. Yeah, Hyde made a very stupid move in flexing (yeah, spearing is OK, dying in the streets of undiagnosed CTE is OK, but show some emotion? Fuck you. Two get you thrown out) as it led directly to the turnover on the tipped pass, and subsequent TD., and yeah, we fucked up again by roughing the kicker on a FG, and fumbled a kickoff.
Even still, the Niners got the score to 21-14 as the 3rd quarter ended. They even got the ball back. But just like the Dallas game, Gabbert threw a horrible INT to give the game away. AZ didn’t look back. And yet another struggling team got healthy on us. That being said, AZ sucks. They are not going to even sniff the playoffs this year.
So I don’t want to hear anything from Chip other than “we have to make a change at the QB position.” 1 and fucking 4 is not anything that should keep Gabbert starting. These last two games were eminently winnable, and we had the lead in both of them, yet shoddy undisciplined play, turnovers, and highly questionable play calling led to the lead being pissed away. Even the fucking Carolina game, we had our chances despite mistakes.
Fuuuuuuuck this. I’m getting real frustrated.
Damn the Niners and Kap are getting serious!
Even if the Niners had Tom Brady passing would any WR be able to catch a ball 15 yards down the field? Tight ends are even worse. Anyone catch say 40 yards pass? Even if the passes were sent by Fed EX it would probably be dropped.
The thing is, T Smith is being wasted. Any WR worth a damn can get open once on a while. And they’l catch them. TEs? Well, they suck. We’ve drafting a few over the years, and they are lousy at best.
Streater was wide open. So was Kerley on that first pass of the game.
This is good for both sides. We can play hm and not eat his salary should he get hurt, and he’s a FA after this year.
http://www.knbr.com/2016/10/07/kaps-contract-re-do-embarrassing-but-a-win-win-in-the-short-term/
Ian Rapoport is reporting the 49ers are chopping off the three remaining years of his contract. Essentially, it voids a unique injury clause in his contract that would’ve paid him $14.5 million in 2017 should he be injured in 2016. Kaepernick will have the option to become a free agent after the season if he wishes.
Say what you will about Kappy but he is doing this to get on the field now.
And play NFL football as far away from Jed and Baalke as is worldly possible as soon as possible.
Well, that goes without saying. No one will trade for him now though. Not until he gets on the field here.
The old folks home is eating this shit up.
Buffalo’s D has played lights out since Roman got fired. Now if you can figure that one out let me know. Actually, though, they’ve had three excellent games and one truly inexplicable home game where Fitzpatrick (he of the 9, count ’em 9, INTs in the last two games) hung 37 on them.
I expect Kappy to take his lumps in that 10 AM start. Just so long as he shakes the rust off, because the schedule gets awfully inviting after that.
So, per Kevin Jones’s article, the issue with Kap not playing was not his inability to gain back weight or not being back to “his 2013 form,” but, rather, they wouldn’t play him this year because if he got hurt they’d be on the hook for $14M next year. That’s the first I’ve heard of that. Even the locker room source above mentioned Kap’s inability to gain back the weight.
By this logic, there should be no question that he starts against the Bills. Weird, weird shit going on in Santa Clara. As far as the current QB situation goes, Baalke has screwed the pooch in a major, major way by not having any plan whatsoever to address the position moving forward. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. He should be canned for that alone.
In the national media the word is out the Niners are not very good. In fact if it wasn’t for Kap this team wouldn’t be mentioned at all. Baalke must be on very thin ice about now. The Yorks are not going to warm up to the idea they have a lousy football team again. Just when they got their brand new stadium and finally were rid of the old Stick their football team goes south under the leadership of Trent Baalke.
Baalke may as well put his house up for sale if he lives in the area. He’s dead meat to the fan base. It’s only a matter of weeks perhaps even days when Jed will be forced to move. The Yorks and Jed can only take so much abuse. The fan base will make a lot of noise with each additional loss added to the record. Niner fans will not tolerate incompetence. After the horrid, woeful performance on Thursday night the national media is well aware of the Niner’s shortcomings.
Nip, I think that everyone knows how inept the Niner organization is. It’s more a wonder why Jed hasn’t done anything already.
Yeah Jed is not for this job of leadership for sure. Time and again he fails to be decisive depending on men who fail him on a habitual regularity. Sometimes patience is a virtue but sometimes it just prolongs the agony of defeat.
Winder, that is the big question. I f Jed agrees to get a new GM, will he let him fire Kelly?
I remember newly hired Joe Thomas’ first act was to fire Monte Clark. The guy who had turned the team around to 6-2 before they got decimated by injuries.
Irregardless, Thomas fired him, and the team went right back into the shitter. Eddie had the brains to fire Thomas after a couple years. Jed has already waited too long.
Goes back to my frustrations with Baalke’s attempt to hire Gase too Chuck.
He clearly knows that Offense is needed.
Whether Jed forced Chip into the current picture is the bigger question.
If Baalke and Chip came together on their own accord, perhaps there’s hope for some continuity ahead?
Gamble and Chip couldn’t come together on a QB in Philly after trying on a few of them themselves.
They made every effort to posture themselves for Mariotta which didn’t materialize.
I’m just hoping something develops between HC/GM without interference from the Yorks.
Be it Baalke/Gamble or anyone else.
Changing HCs is the crux of the problem for us.
Make a decision, let them have some time to work out the personnel needs, get accustomed to the schemes and, stay the eff out of the way for a few years.
We’re not only in the shitter but below the water line. This season is a lost cause and if changes are not made at the top for seasons to come. OUCH!
No, the crux of the problem is Baalke. 6 years and 60+ picks have gotten us nowhere. The o is worse, the d is worse, st is worse. We are scoring more but Gabby is too inconsistent to get us anywhere.
chuck- I totally agree. Baalky has to go and soon. If Gamble gets the job and I am pretty sure he will I imagine Kelly will keep his job. We need someone who can run a professional draft.
Here is a piece on Baalke:

Hard to argue a case for Baalke to stay beyond this season, he has mismanaged the roster.
Happy to see this for Frank Gore:

Long week between games
Yeah, there is a lot of dead time with our team.
Even when they’re playing.
The NFL is a quarterback driven league; it’s all about the QB, the most important position on the field. To basically ignore that position in the draft, especially coming from a franchise historically steeped in glorious QB tradition, from the team’s 1946 beginnings through the decorated careers of the 2 greatest quarterbacks in league history, is truly baffling and irretrievably stupid.
It’s so short-sighted as to force one to question Baalke’s football acumen, if not his outright sanity. Perhaps he was burned by putting all his football eggs into the Colin Kaepernick basket, but any competent NFL GM would have a contingency plan of some sort, some young gun who can be brought along slowly and shown the ropes until such time as he’s ready for game play, JUST IN CASE. In the NFL, the best laid plans often blow up in the GM’s face. Boom Boom Baalke.
The Chargers do it again – game tying short FG with 2:00 left, holder muffs a good snap. LOLOL
Seriously, this is one of the best teams in the league – until they find a new and creative way to lose in the 4th. In the first four games, they led by a TD or more (up to 17) three times going into the 4th and lost.
Chargers 1-4. Raiders in a dead tie with the Broncs for first at 4-1, best start since 2002..
The Chargers led by 7 with 1:15 left in the 3rd (blew their 4th qtr choke streak) when their RB fumbled deep in Charger territory.
Some really good games next week:
Eagles @ Redskins
Chiefs @ Raiders
Cowboys @ Packers
Falcons @ Seahawks
(sigh) I remember when the Niners would always be on that list…
BOO HOO!
Life is cruel……when you follow the current Niners.
Yeah, I mentioned that somewhere before the Raider game that the Chargers could very well be undefeated. that didn’t change yesterday.
That stat I heard yesterday was if the Chargers ended their games at the 2 minute warning, they’d be 4-0-1.
Ouch. To be that close and that stupid.
Life is cruel ……….if you’re paying season tickets for Charger games and the prospect of losing a stadium proposal with a lousy team. All that is left is the Zoo and the beach.
Hey! We have the same record as the defending NFC champs!
Yeah they’re in the shitter too. They looked strong when the Niners showed up. Cam concussed and all hell broke loose. Their D line can’t stop the run.
Romo does it again. Gawd how I hate that guy.
