I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

He seems to get into these risk/reward/future development assignments, perhaps as a way to stash guys without roster impact?

I think it costs him his job NJ. He has literally not one single starter from doing this so far and almost no contributors, and they are 2 3rd, 2 4th, 2 5th and one 7th rounder. Its not like these are last round fliers, these are supposed to be starters or contributors based on high round picks.
Inexcusable to me that he did it again this year for a 3rd rounder when the team really had to have new blood, starting quality guys. He did next to nothing in FA and then pulled this ACL shit for such a high draft choice.

The argument is a stretch to say the least NJ and doesn’t get around the simple fact that Smelter, if it was a good pick, should be on the 53 and so should Redmond who we were told would be healthy and ready to go.

I’m tellin ya Baalky is just not a good GM. It’s pretty fucking simple. And, if Miller does’t get that elder abuse charge dropped he is in for a world of hurt. It’s a very serious charge. In the 3rd round we coulda had a couple of legit QB’s, maybe they would flame out but at least we would have something to show. I hope we knock the snot out of the stinking Rams because if we fall flat I don’t think it will take long for attitudes to falter. The one good thing is we have some promising kids on the roster so I’m gonna focus on them
I think Baalke has done some really good things Winder. Drafting all these injured players and no WR to speak of aren’t some of them. A QB or 2 to develop would have been nice too.
It’s always been something of a curiosity to me with Baalke.
Always appreciated his eye for Defense, somewhat challenged with the Offense however.
To that end, I simply held hope that a cooperative HC relationship would help with those improvements.
Whether he and Harbaugh had disagreements is hard to know, as Kaep hasn’t exactly shown to be more than a runner playing QB.
Could have had philosophical differences there but, who knows?

For example why sign a scrub QB when you have Kap Gabbert and Ponder when your main backup
at RB is Draughn ?! The right move was signing Harris .

The GM business is full of mistakes or players that don’t always pan out. Sometimes they do work out very well. We as fans expect 100 per cent perfection. That’s not the real world. This Miller situation is very unfortunate for everyone. Niners lose a good productive player because of personal issues unrelated to football.

I don’t expect 100%. If the GM hits on 50% he is doing ok. My problem is the ACL failed experiment and Baalke’s myopia when it comes to O skill players.
Part of the problem with the O skill players is the Sardine Can Offense we’ve been running and the bad play callers we’ve constantly had. Let us see what a modern offense and better play caller does for that problem this year.
Agree, its hardly been a showcase for players. Looking forward to seeing what a modern O scheme can do to maximize potential.
So the Baalke ACL brigade this year is Tank, Curly (for the 3rd of our 3 3rd rd picks Thomas) and Reaser. That is just counting ACLs. We can add Trent Brown and Dial (who had a knee problem) to the list of risky picks.
OK I’ll bite. Curly isn’t an ACL guy Berger. Niners traded a third round ACL player who is now on a PS for the Lions. Niners drafted him in 2014, he is still a PS caliber player and therefore a failed ACL experiment guy considering his high draft position. Trying to stretch the ACL draft tactic to include a trade of our failed 3rd rounder to a contributor 5th rounder, which only happened because Ellington got injured, is nonsense.
So far the only player that has played who was drafted with an ACL is Reaser, a contributor who they were going to cut this year until finding a trading partner for a late round pick (7th I think). Reaser was a 5th round pick who at least they got something out of in 2 years.
7 ACL players, 1 contributor, 0 starters. If they had drafted healthy players the tally would be 4 players on the 53, 2 should have been starters, based on slightly above 50% success rate and 2 rd round, 2 4th rd, 2 5th round draft positions.
This draft policy is a bust.
If we never draft Brandon Thomas we don’t trade that pick for Curly. For me, that pick counts as an ACL pick. I will rate that slot on how Curly does. You can act like the pick was a failure, that is your prerogative.
Are you saying we traded Reaser? Do you know something I don’t? I think the trade you are referring to is Acker.

Trading out your 3rd round pick who never played is the definition of failure Berger. Getting a bonus of a 5th from a bad luck injury, right before cut downs, is a small consolation prize that says nothing about drafting ACL injured players.
If you think the ACL method of drafting has been by any reasonable standards a success I’m all ears.
Like I’ve been saying, I don’t advocate it but I don’t have a problem with it. You have to remember, the trade off is getting a 1st rounder in the 2nd or 3rd rd. Reaser was a 5th rd pick. I absolutely have no problem taking a chance with a 5th round pick. Most 5th rd picks don’t last long anyway.

Yep, they made a mistake activating him late last year so in effect they lost a year of his contract.
I don’t know if Tank will be starting but I’m excited to see what he can do after 3 years healing and being utilized badly.
Maybe he will be Balk’s first real ACL success, I mean he is way below the law of averages so it must be time.

He wasn’t an ACL guy but he couldn’t come in playing last year because he was 400 lbs. He was definitely a high risk Baalke pick.
All picks are risks Berger. My complaint is doubling down on the risks with seriously injured players (ACL) and that the pay off just hasn’t worked out. Statistically an almost complete failure.
