I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

You guys can go ahead and like Baalky all you want. As far as I’m concerned he’s in the Joe Thomas category. He is responsible for the players on this team. Believe me there is a reason just about everyone is picking us for last. And, Nip I don’t even expect him to bat .300, as far as that’s concerned he’s in the Johnnie Lemaster range. somewhere around .211
What’s wrong with Lemaster? A wonderful Giant from the past.
I do t think the roster is as bad as people are saying but this is Baalke’s last stand.
I hope it’s not as bad as Custer’s.
My only problem with Chip’s running game is the RB typically has to come across the formation to get the ball. A team that gets initial penetration can blow that up. What does Chip do to counter that? He would need to go Pistol or put the QB under center. Don’t now if I remember seeing that from Chip. Maybe he’ll just tell the line to block better. But some teams will get penetration.
Niners are home dogs for MNF against the Rams, Oi vey!
Enough talk let the games begin, the Niners are who they are, we can talk about the what ifs all year long, let’s just see how this all unfolds, the preseason has had both ups and downs. No big deal. Let’s see them play. Will they be good probably, will they be great probably not, but they should be way better than last year. 8-8 would be a good place to start. If they do better than that, icing on the cake.

Rob, Gabbert and Ponder are hacks, a dime a dozen in the NFL. Now, Ponder has a slim chance; he has a higher ceiling. But he had everything he needed for success in Minnesota and he did less than nothing. Contrast him to Teddy Bridgewater (pre-injury).
The Denver Broncos drafted a 7th rounder in their HOF QB’s last year. They drafted a 1st rounder after the HOFers’ retirement. They knew they had a partial rebuilding year, after all, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady aren’t Free Agents. The 7th rounder is now starting. Both have unknown futures with tons of potential. BTW, ALL EIGHT of the SB Champs draft picks this year made the team. Ya think Harbaugh would’ve liked that kind of support?
The Niners had five draft choices out of eleven make their 5-11 team.
Heck, even JerryWorld spent a 4th rounder on a QB who by injury is now their starter and looks terrific in his first preseason. His future is probably lousy, but it’s unknown and he has a high upside.
You keep telling yourself how great Baalke is. That and ten bucks will get you a NM green chile enchilada dinner.

Just look at a team like Jax, Bortals got Robinson and Hurns to throw to. Between the both of them they scored 24 td’s. If they ever get a running game lookout. Then look at us.
Even in the Joe Thomas years we could score some points. It was our defense that was the seive. If it were not for our defense now I doubt we win a game.

Have we even seen Chip’s offense yet? What I mean is did he show it all during the preseason. I watched a lot of Oregon games, but, to be perfectly frank, I don’t know a thing about the NFL version of it. To hear him say it, it’s a run first offense, not a passing offense like is often said.
The image of Miller with blood on his face is disturbing. It looks like the old man or his son got some good shots in, but wtf was this guy thinking? The way he leans against that wall at the end of the video shows, imo, that he’s troubled. But to just snap on someone like that is indicative of some serious rage issues. I think his career is over and that he’ll spend some considerable time in jail. He should.
It’s a hurry-up ball control run/short pass O, Half of the runs are read options. It relies heavily on runs up the gut and swing passes out in the flat. At least that’s what he was running in Philly.
The O runs on speed outside. The back catching out in the flat has to be a threat to beat his defender 1 on 1 and break a long gain. Otherwise, the D just puts everybody in the box.
When he had DeSean Jackson, longer passes were part of the O because of DSJ’s speed from the slot. Afterwards, it was more of an intermediate game; unfortunately, Badford wasn’t very good at it and Badford was also bad at the running part of the read option.

Not only will he spend a lot of time in the pen. But if i’m not mistaken the average parole is for 3 years which i believe there is a 95% return violation rate. With Sex/child offenders and Elder abusers I believe the parole is around 15 years with a registration clause. If he doesn’t get the elder abuser charge dropped to an aggravated assault he’s gonna have a pretty rough time. The word SNAP comes to mind.
I could definitely be wrong with some of those numbers. But Lurker you were right on the money with the word snap. People do some crazy shit just by getting pissed off. A little road rage anyone.

Guys too much is being made of the ACL picks IMHO.
Baalke picked it up from mcloughan (sp) .Gore being the poster child for the strategy. When we had a stacked roster we could afford to take a flyer. The reason we keep going to the well now IMO is because we usually have so many picks to use.

Gotta admit, you can’t argue with the payoff thus far.
Gotta wonder how someone like Bowman makes it back yet, the development guys can’t get there.
I could support the strategy for ‘stashed assets’ but, the end results are all that count.

Baalke sticks to his guns, I give him that. To me Baalke has been a great D personnel evaluator, but a GM has to be much more than that and Baalke has been lacking.

The article 12th posted says something to the effect that Baalke began his strategy of drafting injured players to show how clever he was, which is a load of bullshit if you ask me. The strategy hasn’t worked out, but on the surface it looks like a sound plan. You draft a guy with first or second round talent whose stock has dropped because of a torn ACL.
With today’s surgical techniques, the prospects of a full recovery from a torn ACL are very high, dare I say they’ve even become routine. Guys hurt that ligament all the time and make it all the way back. It takes a while but they get there. Modern sports medicine has advanced by leaps and bounds in the last 30 years
This plan hasn’t worked out for the Niners and I think it’s high time they bag it. All they’ve gotten for their trouble is empty draft picks which have put them behind the 8 ball to a certain extent. It’s been a failed experiment. But the last thing I think Baalke was doing is trying to show everyone how smart he is. He took a chance and it didn’t pan out. Time to move on.
I bought the strategy too, simply because the roster was relatively stable.
He’s known to Draft and develop anyway, so that fits his MO.
Problem is, in hindsight, the ROI has been non-existent.
We do have 4 players on the roster because of the strategy. Tank, Dial, Reaser and Curly.
Dial isn’t an ACL warrior.

The strategy was worth trying when the roster was really stacked. 11,12,13. It didn’t work. Baalke still did it 14,15,16 when the roster needed every able body. Still hasn’t worked.
6 high and mid round picks and 1 7th rounder = zero starters.

Well, you guys won’t have to wait very much longer to see what we actually have. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that our defense has a lot of speed but needs to make the crucial 3rd down plays so our anemic offense maybe has a chance to make some plays. But, the Chipski does look good in his post game interviews.
Lurker John the caveat with the Kerley Trade is, BThomas was carrying a Late RD1 Grade prior to tearing the ACL during a private pre-Draft workout with NOLA.
Baalke snagged him in RD3 I believe?
He never got to the starting roster before being dealt.
Now Detroit has him on their PS.
He’s simply overrated or, isn’t working hard enough to improve his stock.
Kerley is no Spring chicken at this point either.
He’s been pretty productive however so, maybe we’ll get some short-term production from him, while we wait to see if Ellington or Patton can contribute some meaningful stats under Chip.
