We interrupt the CK freakout . . . BTW I guess we get to see a whole lot of Kappy on Thursday . . .
Teddy Bridgewater is the latest player to be waylaid by the preseason. Players keep dropping despite the best efforts of the league to limit hitting in practice, and stop two-a-day practices, and cutting down on practice time in general. Bridgewater was carted away in an ambulance for an apparent knee injury. A non-contact injury. Granted, we have lost a few ourselves, including Carlos Hyde (concussion) Quinton Dial (knee sprain) Bruce Ellington (pulled hammy) Eric Rodgers and Thad Lewis (torn ACL). Teams all over the league are suffering through various and sundry (and not so sundry) injuries.
“Preseason” is the scariest word for any head coach to hear, as players like Tony Romo, DE Vance Walker of New England, and now Teddy Bridgewater many many more are severely injured in these practice games. At some point you’d think the owners would want to protect the very players the league is built on, but that would cut in to owner profits for games that no one shows up to, and fans are forced to buy tickets for.
There has been talk of getting rid of two preseason games, but at the cost of adding two regular season games. The NFLPA rightly went ballistic over this back in 2011, and the owners couldn’t even really rebut that, since adding 2 more real games to the schedule would guarantee a boatload of injuries. Goodie Goodell always preaches safety, but he NEVER stands in the way of profits (see concussion: whitewash). I certainly hope that the league (the owners) see fit to do away with 2 preseason games and not messing with the rest of the schedule.
In other words, I have no idea what to expect from Kappy tomorrow night.
Send him on a bus to Cleveland.
I hope they sit him. I really don’t understand why Kap is still on the team. He is an accident waiting to happen. I guess the FO is really that stupid and as far as I’m concerned they deserve all the bullshit that is coming.
If she’s actually playing that harp then i think I’m in love.
Most of the new music that I have heard is unlistenable it is unimaginative and canned. I guess my age is showing. And, what is with all the whining high pitched male voice, that shit just hurts my head.
Well, he needs to play well regardless of the shit-storm:
a) in case we need him
b) in case we trade him
That’s pretty much the scenario. I seriously don’t think we cut him.
Chuch- I’m not buying it. We have Ponder, /driskel and we can pick another off the heap. We are not getting anything for him anyway, that has pretty much been proven.
chuck
I just want to see a good throwing QB. Is that asking too much? I want this organization to make some decisions for a change. Is that asking too much? How about a QB that can throw a TD now and then. is that asking too much? How about a QB that is interested in football first. Is that asking too much? Damn it.
Woof!
BARF!
Looks like trading Kap is a no go:

One exec calls him a traitor, another says “fuck that guy”, stealing my line in the process.
Another says Kap is hated like Rae Carruth, says it all really.
Bye, bye football career, asshole.
Hmmm. Rae Carruth murders his pregnant girlfriend = a guy exercising his right to protest something?
I’m sure that owner is clean as a whistle. What a fucking idiot.
It’s not whether the equivalency is justified that’s interesting, it’s how vehement these guys are. Kap made himself toxic.
I saw a piece on 60 Minutes the other day about the Rae Carruth murder for hire story and you have to come away from that just flabbergasted. This piece of shit blocks his girlfriend’s way his car while the other scumbag fires the shots. He just sits in his car like nothing is happening. Unbelievable.
Because of his actions, his girlfriend is dead and her son, deprived of oxygen, is fighting a lifelong uphill battle to live a life with some semblance of normalcy. Thank God for his grandmother, she’s really doing right by him and he’s making a lot of progress.
This guy is complicit in a murder-for-hire plot and blows up a lucrative NFL career because he doesn’t to pay child support? Wow. Utter scum and he’s up for parole in about 4 years.
Well, that just goes to show how stupid these execs are. They have no problem starting a convicted felon or any number of wife-beating/steroid ingesting animals, but get all pissy over a protest?
The song is stupid before every fucking game, besides. Funny how they don’t show the anthem in the reg season for ANY games on TV. Playoffs? Sure.
I don’t particularly agree with how Kappy’s doing this, but it’s well within his right as an American to do so. The protest is EXACTLY what soldiers fight for the right to do, by the way.
The land of the free because of the brave.
Right.
Kappy may be writing his ticket out of the league, and I think he knows this, but NFL execs are up there with cretins and pond scum where it comes to morals. They are all against steroids and doing drugs. Unless it wins them some trophies. Just ask Art Modell. Or Jerry Jerk-Off. Or the Irsay klan.
Or John Harbaugh giving Ray Rice a standing ovation for punching his girlfriend’s lights out. Or Jimmy H for alienating his players with his stance on Kappy’s stand. More than a few have viewed their disappointment. Of course Teflon Jim walked them back.
My thought is, if Kappy’s pissing this many people off, he’s on to something.
I haven’t read anybody say he doesn’t have the right to do it. His cause doesn’t concern me at all, I think there is reason to raise the awareness. I would like to see him bring attention to it in a respectful way and that is the whole reason he is pissing so many people off, because what he is doing is in the same vein as those that burn the flag, or walk on it. He is in a privileged position and abusing it IMO.
Why don’t we see him walking with demonstrators like MLK did with dignity? Or any one of a thousand different ways to support his cause.
His method is a disgrace, but you have a right to your opinion.
Well, when he is equated with murderers I think they are saying something about his rights.
I don’t agree with it either, but again, Tommie Smith and John Carlos got much worse treatment in their protest. And it was much the same.
When talking about Kap and Carruth they are not suggesting the crime is equal to his protest. They are saying he has so alienated front office execs that the depth of resentment to the player is similar, a pariah.
Strong words but nothing about rights.
There are consequences to any action and he will suffer his.
That’s great, but I don’t think Kappy gives a shit about the consequences. Beyond the fact he had a decent run as a QB, made a ton of money, and then suddenly develops a conscience means he doesn’t have to care. About the NFL or about the backlash. He’s likely fading from football existence anyway due to his inability to read defenses rather than this stance on the police.
As I’ve been saying all along, I think he’s doing this now because his platform will be gone soon. Whether that leads to him being cut by the Niners remains to be seen. But his performance tomorrow will say a lot. If he has 5 series and 0 first downs, then he can logically be cut for non-performance. Sure the conspiracy theories will fly but this could happen. Whether it does or not will be determined by how he does tomorrow.
Would like to pick him up:

Wouldn’t be the worst idea. He’s getting ‘old’ but we need experienced WRs.
49ers – Packers game is starting right now on NFL network.
Well this could be entertaining –
Pittsburgh claimed Mettenberger to add to their QB stable.
A Mettenberger and a Roethlisberger?
Go figure…
Berger – Any discernible football skills you can provide to Pittsburgh?
You could make it a’ Berger’ TriFecTa 😀
You bet! I could show them how to turn on the TV and watch the game on Sundays!
Hmmm. Interesting.

Interesting too.

Why is it that Baalke can’t draft or acquire decent WRs? It can’t possibly be that difficult. You can’t win in the NFL with crap receivers. This is like the Giants total failure to secure their own outfielders from their minor league system for the last 20 years…
Whatever it is, at applies to the SF Giants and competent outfielders. Marvin Benard i think was the last one who did anything. Ourlast homegrown OF all star was Chili Davis.
Benard was a rule 5 pick.
I think guys like Anquan/Torrey and Randy would qualify as decent.
Anquan and Torrey won the SB that we couldn’t.
It begs the question, do we have a QB that can find them and deliver?
He certainly hasn’t had any luck with the WR position via the Draft thus far.
Might be some hope under Chip’s System perhaps?
Giants had a heck of an outfield draft this year. Reynolds, Quinn and Brosa all look good so far.
It’s because he is a terrible GM.
It’s that simple
I would put Matt Millen at the ‘Terrible’ level Winder.
Baalke is Offensively challenged IMO.
I just think any GM has to have a good working relationship with the Coaches involved.
No GM can survive if he’s forcing pieces onto a roster that don’t fit what the Coaches are trying to do.
Let’s see if Baalke and Chip can have a better relationship to that end, than we had with Baalke/Harbaugh (Marathe)?
Can’t go anywhere in this game on Offense, until you find a QB to run it.
Never cared for Mike Tannenbaum either for that matter.
He still finds work in this League though.
As I said before you can’t only build a defense and expect to be successful.
And yes you can’t be successful if your HC and GM don’t have a working relationship let alone talk.
I will say that the team looks better structurally and but for the injuries look to building from the lines out. Which I think is a good plan.
