Well, best laid plans and all, the Kappy situation remains in flux as Denver hasn’t moved on their offer, and Cleveland, being Cleveland, may have scared off Kappy already by shedding center Alex Mack, RT Mitchell Schwartz, and WR Travis Benjamin. Last thing he wants is to come into a team that has is shedding talent and is looking to draft a QB anyway. He could (and very well may) stay here for that, despite his admiration for Hue Jackson.
No, this trade is about Denver. I’ve been thinking all along that this is what he wants. This is certainly what Denver wants, as Gary Kubiak has not been shy about his desire to get Kaepernick. The Niners want a 2 from Denver or a 3 from Cleve, mainly because the diff is 2 spots in the draft. In other words, a 2 from Denver IS basically a 3rd round pick from Cleve. A 3 from Denver is 30 spots lower. Denver just signed Mark (dirty) Sanchez, but no one sees that as anything but what it is. A backup signing. Denver has made noise about getting Ryan Fitzpatrick, but Kubiak wants to run a more dynamic offense than what Fitzpatrick would offer. Elway has admired CK from afar, as has Kubiak and Wade Philips.
The Fitzpatrick to Denver talks seemingly would bring the Kappy/Jets scenario back into play, but there haven’t been any whispers around that. Yet. It could happen, but much as I hate to say it, I hope Kaepernick finds his way to Denver and does well there. The 49ers seems to be only adept at shooting themselves in the feet like old Sourdough Sam used to. The 49ers now are a collection of disorganized parts and pieces put together with no sense or rhyme. Chip Kelly is walking into a buzzsaw. And Trent Baalke is on his last legs.
This draft is fairly huge in the immediate future of this team.
At least Baalke is “hanging tight.” That’s his words so make of it what you will.
At least Bullit is worried about his illegals. He probably pays so little they have to be illegals. No green cards for him! No sir! Bullit will be left blowing his own leaves……making his own bed!
Go miners go map
62 mil and we got a third string QB lol
Good news is the market is down for Okung and Donald Penn. I hope we jump.
Oops Go niners go Kap
Wondering what that was about, Rob!
Okung is an improvement over what we currently have, then again, so is Penn, so . . . do it.
Got to do something this FA time . . .
Baalke is still holding TIGHT!
This has as much to do with Chip’s style of play as it does with our Dysfunctional First Family’s Business practices too.
Glad to see Baalke not pissing it away at least.
Chip’s likely better off with Draftees on the OL than older more expensive FAs 1 at this point.
This mess won’t get fixed by buying their way out of it.
Suck and Draft for the future.
Still can’t see the NYJ paying for a QB, AND Mo, with their Cap situation.
If Kaep stays in play that’s where I still see a fit.
We can, (and should), pay Mo IMO.
They can rescind the F-Tag in a Trade scenario and we swap Contracts.
D-O-N-E
I think you are putting way to much faith into Baalke. The roster belongs to him, not Jed.
Or Chip . . .
No one knows the draft dynamic till draft day. If we don’t draft a QB at 1 or 2, then I think Trent is pulling the strings. Chip is out in the cold, and Jed has his hand up Trent’s ass.
The thing is, NO team is that far out of it. I know this plays into V’s wheelhouse, but with parity you get this scenario. A good draft and a couple vet linemen would do wonders to help this team. We HAVE decent players scattered through the roster, but there needs to be a plan other than Jed and Trent stumbling in the dark while Jed tries to set the moving target.
You’re welcome, Bakken . . .
I’m surprised people are surprised by the Sanchez signing In Denver. This plays nothing into the Kappy-to-Denver proceedings. Sanchez is strictly backup material at this point. I wonder if the Ryan Fitzpatrick drag-out is dragging this along with it. The Jets certainly could become interested should Fitz head to Denver. I don;t see it playing out this way though.
Believe it or don’t, Kappy is the bigger fish.
Wow. That was quick. Hardy Nicjerson, he of Cal football (and straight outta Compton), has come and gone as our ILB coach.
He’s joining Lovie Smith at the Illini as their new DC. . . Odd to say the least, but he does have a long history coaching with Lovie. Plus he gets to be their DC instead of just an LB coach.
Oh well.
Sniff…………..boo hoo!
Winder the way I see Trent is simply a product of the Parcells Tree.
He’s a Defense first guy that plays it close to the vest.
Where I feel he excels is slotting and moving on the Draft Board.
No GM in this game bats 1.000
I’ve read in many places, for many years, that the Draft, in any given year, provides very few ‘slam dunk’ prospects.
For example, an average Class of 32 potential 1st RD Grades is lucky to net 10-15 of them.
What a GM in this game has to do is, find the guys that show a willingness to put in the work to improve and make the team.
Baalke has to have a relationship with his HC/Scouts/Staff, to find the pieces that fit.
Add to that the reports that Paraag has had his hands on the evaluation/risk factor phase of the FO and, I have to wonder just what Baalke was ‘permitted’ to do.
IMO, this ‘Moneyball’ approach just tips the scales away from tried and true Scouting, towards a Bean Counter Budget process that is too much in line with cost cutting.
Granted, our Cap situation was a total disaster at the tail end of the Mariucci Era.
Paraag has cleaned it up, certainly.
What was an epic fail was the inability to find balance with Harbaugh and Baalke to remedy the QB situation.
Whether it was a power grab on Harbaugh’s part or, a dictatorship approach on Baalke’s part, it was a total meltdown.
We failed with Alex. We appear to have failed with Kaep as well.
I do believe Baalke will give Chip the call on the QB going forward.
If Baalke can concentrate on Defense, while allowing Chip to control the Offense, we may just find some long needed balance on the construction of the roster.
Chip’s failed efforts as a personnel guy in Philly and, Baalke’s failed relationship with Harbaugh should provide them both some much needed humility going forward.
At least that’s what I’m hoping for.
I shudder to think that Jed is playing the part of Danny Snyder.
If so, we’re in for a LONG, and PAINFUL future.
In a nut shell, I support Trent simply because he’s come through the ranks.
Neither Dr Daddy, Jed or Paraag are remotely qualified to have an opinion on what goes on with this team.
If Trent fails, let it be on his own merits.
Don’t have the 3 Blind Mice applying MBA practices to how a football team should be constructed.
For that matter, I’m also convinced that Tomsula, and maybe Chip, were brought on board by Jed/Dr Daddy.
Especially when Baalke was hard at work attempting to recruit Gase.
Something just doesn’t smell right to me, with respect to how this FO conducts ‘business’.
There seems to be too much intervention coming between the GM and his Coaches.
If the football guys can’t agree on how to build a football team, what, in God’s name, is Jed doing to improve things?
Write the checks Jed.
Stay away from the process after that.
The talent drain is painfully obvious since Scot left.
Baalke has failed miserably in my estimation. Look at NE, Pittsburgh, Indy (lucky), or even the SF Giants to see how teams restock while drafting low. Just saying he’s a defensive guy doesn’t absolve him of anything. Parcells guy or no. If he can’t work with his offensive coaches like he couldn’t with Harbaugh then you have shit like AJJenkins, LMJ, Braylon Edwards, and countless other offensive duds.
All Trent’s drafta are listed here, NJ. And I don’t give Trent credit for 2010. That was Scot’s swan song.
Well aware of his Draft history Chuck.
He’s sought Offensive talent to compliment Kaep for quite sometime.
At some point you have to ask why Kaep didn’t develop too.
Could it be, a rift ensued over Kaep’s development too?
It’s a mess.
Plenty of blame to go around.
Well, I liken it to Brady and Newton looking like shit when they were under constant pressure by Denver’s defense. We made most teams look like Denver’s defense.
Neither Smith nor Kappy did much with Ginn, neither did Harbaugh. Scheme, talent, coaching, drafting, communication. All these things need to coalesce.
We got close without communication, but without the talent we are fading. Another blah draft and we’ll be drafting in the top 5.
NJ- dysfunction usually starts at the top and in this case it probably does. As far as Baalke goes all I can see is his prior moves. I’m only looking for him to bat around .300 but he’s not even close to that. There is now a clear sign that players don’t want to be here, is it Jed? maybe part of it but I tend to think is more because of Baalke. I just don’t know.
All of the above guys.
I don’t know where to point a finger either, for whatever good that would do me anyway.
Adding all the ingredients we’ve had over the York Years spells incompetence to me.
Firing Mooch, hiring the parade of Coaches that followed etc.
Baalke seems to seek assistance, specifically where he’s weakest, the Offense.
He landed Harbaugh, who likely brought us Kaep, while waving adios to Alex.
We can assume Kaep flourished with the sound ground game and stellar Defense.
Absent that, Kaep has fallen flat on his face.
That said, I’ll ride with Baalke to restock the Defense.
I’m not sold on Chip’s brand of Offense but, we’ll have to see where it goes from here.
All I’m asking for is Chip and Trent to work out their individual shortcomings as a team.
Something that obviously didn’t occur with Harbaugh.
This whole Paraag intervention thing concerns me.
He’s Dr Daddy’s ‘money’ guy.
Knowing the cheap bastard Daddy is known to be, I don’t see where he did anything but interfere in Trent’s job duties.
Until we fix the QB position, this garbage is likely to continue to rot under our noses.
Paraag and the rest of these minions have created an atmosphere of dysfunction that chases away good Coaching while polluting the locker room in return.
To hear Boone suggest that Teddy Bridgewater isn’t a prima dona, suggests to me, that Kaep was.
The Nessa triangle, might well have driven Aldon over the edge.
Reports of Kaep not working at his craft, etc.
On, and on, it goes.
An uncovered Torrey being ignored in St Loo last year, on the pre-snap read by Kaep, also suggests that these high priced FAs are going to waste, if the QB isn’t smart enough to utilize them.
Can’t fault Baalke for bringing in proven talent if they’re not going to see any action.
The entire situation is enough to drive me nuts.
Now, we have Chip.
Word from his days in Philly are out there.
Frank even balked at the opportunity to join them, due to the whispers that were around back then.
How many OLmen are going to beat down the door to play for an Offense that gets pounded into dust?
This next season will be lousy. Bank on it. One has to have a sense of humor about the whole mess. If you take this stuff to heart you’re going to be one miserable SOB.
No need to go that far Nipper –
I simply watch to see WTF is going to happen next.
Only hope I have at this point is, that our Defense can survive the Chip Kelly Offense.
This ought to be entertaining, to some perverted degree.
I’ll be headed out to Canton for Eddie’s HOF Induction this Summer.
Might be the last glimpse I’ll get of some of the guys that made this Franchise worth my time.
Maybe I’ll have a chance to strangle Jed while I’m there?
Give him a piece of your mind!
Trust me, I certainly will.
But only after I get a picture with Eddie, Ronnie, Jerry and whomever else I can find.
Enjoy the moment!
NJ- have a great time their. I bet it will be packed with 49er heroes.
Sounds like fun. Gonna be a lot of the old gang there for Eddie.
The thing is NJ, it isn’t about finger-pointing. For Baalke it’s about doing his job. He hasn’t even tried to draft a WR and about 40 good to great guys have been drafted ahead of us. Fucking Keenan Allen STILL pisses me off. Could have had him with our 2nd 2nd round pick in 2013. Instead we take Vance McDropsy. I know hindsight is BS, but Allen was high on my list of guys who looked like legit shots to make it. If he’s on my board, he should fucking be on Trent’s.
Yeah, Kappy has to get the ball out, blah blah blah, but we’ve never had anything in the way of schemes to get guys open deep. Now we don’t have the blocking for it. Ginn being a prime example. He didn’t catch one long pass here in 3 seasons. In his time at Carolina he’s had numerous deep passes. 1 TD and 385 yards here in 3 years. 15 TDs and 1295 in 2 years at Carolina. Look at Cam Newton in 2014. 5-8-1 to 15-1 last year. Did he magically get better? Sure. Some. But the team played better around him.
Truth be told, I’m hopeful of this offense under Chip. At least offensively. The bullshit of the last 2 years was enough to make me want to poke my eyes out with rusty nails. Granted we might punt 35 times a game, but we won’t be boring. Shitty? Sure. Probably. Thing is, Baalke needs to nail this draft. Free agency? It looks like we got caught sucking our thumbs. WTF? I didn’t want a feeding frenzy, but SOMETHING!
The other hope is that Chip learned something in his time in Philly to get him better connected to his players. Winning helps, but as Harbaugh proved, sometimes even that isn’t enough.
It’s going to be weird no matter how you look at it. My fear is we weenie out and take some 3rd round QB who is nothing but cannon fodder, and we ride Gabbert to shit-town.
Shit-town? Sounds like a whole lot of shit. I hope it’s not in my Rand McNally
Atlas.
Yeah, nobody wants to go there but we sure seem to pass through it often.
Another possible FA target is kelvin beachum steelers OT
Yeah, he’s coming off an injury IIRC. Anyone is better than Pears
Chuck lets not forget our history in SF
A 3rd RD Pick from Notre Dame turned Walsh and the 9ers into a Dynasty
Doesn’t matter to me one bit where a guy is Drafted.
What matters is what you do when you get here.
Too many 1st RDers flame out or simply stop working when the paychecks come.
Crabtree never got much support here, seemed to dog it as well for sometime.
Vernon had his ups and downs, but never became a superstar but for his speed.
The QB has as much to do with it as anything.
Until you have the right fit there, you really don’t have much to build around.
I don’t care if Chip goes with a QB in RD6 like a guy named Brady.
Crabs was his own worst enemy. As was VD. They had grand self-worth ideas, and reality bit them in the ass. Click clack, motherfucker. For all his size and speed, VD dropped too many passes, and was terrible at adjusting to the flight of the ball.
Crabtree? He’s a solid 2. He’s a possession guy who thought he was worth Megatron money. The injuries slowed him down, but schemes did as well. He dogged Harbaugh for using him strictly as a 3rd down guy. In a better offense he’s doing well. Ginn is off the charts compared to what he did here. We rarely even tried going deep with him.
Yeah the QB plays a big role in this,. Then again, so does the scheme being run. Power football with little risk in the passing game is all well and good, but once you stop the run, your team struggles. As what happened with Gore for years. Even pre-Harbaugh. Especially pre-Harbaugh.
That’s a pipedream, NJ. For every late round under the radar success story, there are hundreds of flameouts. Hence my post about a cogent plan from all involved. Harbaugh didn’t even have that and still nearly won with McCloughan’s team.
I think we’re basically saying the same thing. But until Baalke learns how to draft better, we are hell-bent on repeating the same mistakes. Every problem with the team brings on the whisper campaign against whoever is perceived to be a problem. Sing, Jimmy-Hat, Nolan, Harbaugh, Kappy, take your pick.
If Chipper doesn’t start out hot, I’m sure the rumors will begin leaking out of the building forthwith. But who knows? Maybe he drafts Goff, and puts a palatable team on the field. It could happen, but the recent past doesn’t give me reason to shout from the hilltop yet.
My dream of success involves losing Baalke, getting some football people in the front office, and letting them build the coaching staff. Until then, we’ll fall prey to the same fuck-ups.
Well that’s been the basis of my support for Baalke Chuck, he’s a football guy.
If Ownership isn’t willing to allow the ‘football guys’ to run the the football side, what’s the point?
Adding a Whiz Kid is good business in Contract negotiations.
Did we need him having duties in the booth on game days?
Involved in the Draft process?
We do agree on the communication aspect of our malaise however.
With Paraag/Jed involved with the backroom drama, those lines of communication become blurred.
Many reports suggested a developed rift between Paraag/Harbaugh/Kaep.
If so, these ‘leaks’ of his demise could easily have triggered the onslaught of negativity that ultimately brought down the house.
It’s dysfunction, plain and simple.
Attack Harbaughs’ QB, you attack Harbaugh indirectly.
My feeling has been that Kaep was Harbaugh’s guy to name, simply to move on from Alex.
Now, Chip will garner the same responsibility to move on from Kaep.
Miss on the QB, prolong the inevitable turmoil.
For me, a Parcells disciple carries similar stature with a Walsh guy in football circles.
Successful Coaches are a fraternity in this game.
The weaklings don’t survive.
None of the 3 Blind Mice involved in our Ownership/Mgt Trio have a clue about football.
Mix the wrong ingredients, spoil the meal.
I don’t buy it. Not as far as the drafts go. Unless you think Jed and Paraag are way more involved in the draft than is warranted.
With this bunch who the fuck knows? I mean really. There are leaks, rumors, innuendo and bullshit swirling around everything.
Don’t buy what?
Paraag being the mole?
Perfectly OK with me, if Trent doesn’t float your boat, that’s not an issue for me.
I just think he’s the only guy in the process that makes any ‘football’ sense.
My point is, who is Paraag in terms of ‘inner circle’ football hierarchy?
I see him as Dr Daddy’s Whiz Kid/Mole.
I think he’s carrying a little too much clout in terms of a ‘pseudo-football guy’.
There have been reports of his influence being implemented on football evaluations.
For what that means? I don’t eff’n know, but, it just doesn’t seem like the kind of ‘sidekick’ any GM in this League would cozy up to.
No excuses being made for Trent on my part, I’m simply asking how this dynamic makes anyone’s duties as GM any more productive?
Seems to me, like a whole lot of unnecessary ‘communication/interference’ taking place.
Then we add Jed….SMH.
