In Phoenix, the Niners Shall Rise From the Ashes

Something like that. Hey you never know. AZ is coming off 2 impressive wins, but at the expense of 2 of he worst defenses in the NFL in Chicago and New Orleans. The Niners on the other hand beat a Minnesota team that shut down the Detroit Lions pretty handily last week. Course we were folded, spindled and Rothlisbergered last week in Pittsburgh. No shame there. It just got away fast.

Which brings us to AZ. For all their recent success (sort of), they haven’t made much noise in the playoffs recently. Lots of bridesmaid shit. They have a decent defense and a fairly solid offense, if they can keep Carson Palmer upright. Kappy? Well, he’s 4-1 as a starter vs AZ with 9 TDs and only 1 pick. Seeing as AZs pass defense is Whaley, I see a continuation of the deep passing game.

As usual though this game will be decided in the trenches. Get a strong ass rush on Palmer and the DBs will be fine. No pressure means Palmer going deep. And as we saw last week, even the safeties got beat over he top. Over and over. Open up some running lanes and give Kappy time to throw and I think we get the offense rolling.

31-17 Niners.

Niners will win. The “other” blog will be pissed. Bullit will be crying about the past.

  2. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I saw the reason explained why we got torched deep. IIRC, the explanation came from Eric Reid. He said we were disguising a run D look by bringing up the safeties and the Steelers were just too fast for us to get back in cover two. He called it learning a new defense.

  3. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’ll buy that to a certain extent. They should have adjusted by the 3rd quarter. I think the short week played a big part in that.

Still and all, the AZ game is much more important than the Pittsburgh game. Winning division games is paramount.

  4. rob's avatar rob says:

Well imo if we thought playing good run D was paramount vs Pissburgh and big Ben then something is wrong here.

    My prediction
    24 – 20 for the bad guys

  5. rob's avatar rob says:

    Yup CHUCK
The Steelers played to the their strengths vs us. No surprise there.
Still think the pass rush was biggest problem

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, it is t as bad as it looked, but Jesus, Ben hit every deep ball.

Yeah the pass rush plays into it, but they should have dropped a safety by the 3rd quarter. We didn’t change our strategy and they kept up with the deep balls. If what Reid says is true.

    • rob's avatar rob says:

      Yup
Nofear put a lot on the safeties too.
Too bad for us. I still say going to Pissburgh on a short week with them having extra time to prepare was a little steep.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Jesus, bullit spends more time talking about this blog han anything else.

What a fucking chickenshit pussy. Grow a pair, skippy.

Funny that skeebs shut me down over there and this is supposedly where differing opinions are not tolerated. Never understood how the mental midgets reconciled that one.

Hmmm, buwwitt? Since you want to wimp out and hide behind skeebs, what say you?

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

ROB, the thing is, no pressure = toasted corners. No matter who they are.

Which is why we need to find a way to get pressure on Palmer. He’s not as good as Big Ben, but he can shred with the best of them given protection.

    • rob's avatar rob says:

      100 % right CHUCK
I hope we can at least get some pressure on Palmer.
If not it could be another long day for us.

Rob’s right and I would like to thank unca_chuck for writing such an inspirational thread he’s a great service to the organization and the bay area community. God bless him and his family and may God help our 49ers with a victory of the team to beat in our division.

I would like to thank Jed for handling himself and this organization with the utmost class, people are hard on him but we’re so blessed to have him and it always could be worst. He was just like baby Jesus a few years ago now he’s grown big physically and spiritually.

Kappy progression has took everyone including the league by surprise and we can thank the holy spirit for taking away his immoral influences to show they are sinful, having fallen short of God’s standards. Thank you God for making him see the light of the lord. He is the source of the new birth and brings out the nature of Christ in the individual that was lost in Kappy. Lets hope the spirit helps him to deliver the ball to the right place so that we can beat the Devil’s Cards.

Let’s also pray for Tomsula to see the light and for God to grant him the wisdom of Walsh if it’s possible. This process can be at times painful and a learning experience depending how much the team cooperate with him along the way. Let’s pray they cooperate with him and gives him all the time he needs.

I have a spiritual feeling that the 49ers might win.

I just read some comments on the cancer blog for the first time in a week or more. The dumb ass North Korean, Bullit (sic), is trying to be like me. How cute. He is using ‘sic’ but using it incorrectly. He’s a moron but at least he tries to run with the big dogs. Kim Jung Un would probably execute him if he were back home for being a dumb ass, even for North Korean standards. It is so cute when he refers to us as his homeland. He is obviously homesick.

  11. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I tried to set the DVR a new way this last week and it didn’t record the game. I would comment if I saw the game but I didn’t. Probably a good thing. I’ll go back to recording with the old settings this coming week.

  12. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I wonder how many more retirements and defections we would have had to deal with this year if Harbaugh would have stayed? Maiooco said a month ago that last year’s team was lacking smiles more than any team he had ever covered. Last year’s team obviously did not enjoy the game anymore. I have absolutely no doubt we would be 0-2 if Harby were still here.

  13. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I remember Nolan’s Big Nickel. It worked fairly well at times. I did not care for Nolan as coach but he was very good with DB schemes. Problem was he wouldn’t attack the QB. We got Manusky and started to go after the QB and then suddenly we stopped being so aggressive. When Manusky went to SD he said he “was just spinning his wheels in San Francisco.” That lead me to believe Nolan was not allowing him to be aggressive. It would also explain why I liked Manusky in the beginning and not near the end of his tenure in SF.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Actually, I think it was Singletary who wasn’t allowing him to be aggressive. I’m pretty sure Manusky started with Nolan and ended with Sing. Nolan’s passive D used to frustrate the heck out of me until Manusky showed up. And then Manusky ended up going passive. Sheesh.

    Short game helps the OL.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

It’s all about the pressure. AZ’s line has been varying shades of shakey, so the Niners need to exploit that. Otherwise it’s a problem. Shootouts are fine if we can get into the goddamn end zone.

  17. Winder's avatar Winder says:

It’s all about gameplan and execution. We baffled the Vikes and we should be able to keep AZ on their heels. We all know their OL is better than ours there is nothing we can really do about it. We can attack at their weakest area’s and try to stay away from their strengths. This one could turn out to be special.

  18. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The biggest problem with Arizona is their coach. Arians is a really good coach. He’ll have a good game plan that the players will be able to carry out. Hopefully not well enough to win. QBs never play well when they are on their backs. There is no game plan for that unless the run game is doing well enough to compensate.

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hey nofear, nationally, who picked rge Niners to beat Mnn?

Exactly. You think like a sheep.

    Baaaaah!

  20. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The dumb ass North Korean, Bullit (sic), said the Raiders don’t want to paint the 50 yd line gold because that is 49er colors. Wrong. He tries very hard to denigrate the 49ers but his hatred for Jed has him giving us bad info. The Raiders owner Davis said he will paint it gold as soon as the dirt from the A’s is covered with grass.

  21. rob's avatar rob says:

Against Pissburgh we went with our “penny” package with three rushers only. Not a good idea imo and a big reason we allowed so many passing yds.

  22. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We tried that last year against Manning and that one didn’t work well either.

It annoys the shit out of me when they don’t pressure an immobile QB. Especially on 3rd down.

If they do the same thing with Palmer, they’ll get shredded.

  25. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Dropping 8 into coverage and getting no pressure is not a good way to play things. Unless you are up by 21 with 2 minutes to play. I’d rather pressure with 4-5 and play the safeties a little deeper than necessary. The defense needs to learn quickly from the Pittsburgh game and find ways to get pressure on Palmer. He’s basically the same as Ben.

And in the Banana Republic, the Revisionistas keep whining. Now it’s Tomsula’s fault Bush and Kilgore got hurt. Tomsula is not being forthcoming with his injury reports. I mean, No other coach is cagey when it comes to injury reports. Well, except for all of them. What a fucking feeb. A waste of skin. He’s using up precious oxygen.

When God was handing out brains, Buwwit thought God said ‘grains’, and said no thanks. I’m gluten free.

  26. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Against the Vikings we rushed three only twice on a 3rd and long (long being five yards or more). And once, we only rushed two. All resulted in the Vikings fail to convert.

In the PIT game we brought three and dropped eight only once on a 3rd and long. That, too, resulted in an incomplete pass and punt.

Seems like bitching about things used infrequently that worked while excusing so much of what didn’t.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

You had better go back and watch the film. I don’t believe those numbers. If you got them from a service, cancel the subscription.

      • NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

There were seven plays where the Vikings were in 3rd and long (5 yards or more). I watched every one of them. I knew it wouldn’t matter to folks who prefer the idea that reality is whatever they say it is.

        Facts are not your friend.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

You and facts go together like the truth and obfuscation. I remember a play where Phily’s Westbrook went for about 50 yards up the middle on us a few years back. The safety who I liked and you didn’t was blamed by you for taking a wrong angle. Meanwhile, the NT you liked was busy eating grass after getting shoved aside. The NT was the reason we got torched on that play but your wanting to sell that I was wrong got in the way of “your” facts. I have learned from the past what your facts are based on.

      • NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Your memory is as lacking as your veracity.

I think you’re referring to Aubrayo Franklin. The play I think you’re manufacturing to distract from the point of the OP. Some might even say obfuscating.

You say you don’t believe my numbers, then give me yours.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

So you are still defending the NT. You might be delusional but at least you are consistent.

  27. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Seems like it? I saw it a couple times. it didn’t work either time. I think we’ve proven that not getting pressure isn’t conducive to slowing down a given team. Whether it’s Pitts or AZ. AZ’s line isn’t as good as Pittsburgh’s, so knocking Palmer around is key. They aren’t getting a ton of running yards so we need sustained pressure.

Kappy? Well, he’s looking better this year. Even in the loss last week.

Anyhow, if you ever get tired of leading the idiots around by the nose . . .

  28. Berger's avatar Berger says:

It was interesting that Kap says he is being used in a way that better fits his integrity. I wondered what that meant. Maiocco thinks it has to do with Kap being able to call plays at practice so he can communicate with his team mates. Last year Harbaugh was living his fantasy of still being an NFL QB and called the plays in practice. If that ism true then I can see how a QB would feel better being able to lead practice if he is going to lead the team during am game.

      Niners 24-21
      Go Niners!

  31. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Of course this prediction is worthless but expect the Niner D to give a better accounting of themselves against the Cards. Should be a bit more pressure on Palmer. The passing of Kap will be adequate keeping the score low. Niners have to run the ball. Perhaps a 20-17 hard fought victory for the Niners if the D shows. Special teams might show-up too. That would be very nice indeed.

  32. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I dunno maybe I’m in the minority but I think Kap is a better QB than Palmer. I also like our RB’s better than theirs. This game is all about how we will play on defense. One thing we got going is that AZ really doesn’t like us, all we got to do is disrupt them enough so they start to make mistakes. The media seems to have penciled AZ into the superbowl already and I am not buying it. Palmer is choke central and except for a good OL and some fast WR’s they are just who they are.

The Niner offensive line had better get it together, cause Kap is going to have to pass. Being down by 21, and trying to run is just not going to work. Last week the Niners had the ball time wise more than Pitts, and we saw how that worked out. A team can run up and down the field all they want, but when your D is giving up TD’s every 3 mins that type of play calling is not going to work.

  89. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

The NFL is geared for the pass, to stay in any game a team has to be able to pass the ball. So the O line of any team needs to be able to pass block. So far in two games the O line has not done that!!

  90. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

A 3 man rush never works. It didn’t work last week. Guys were wide open. No pass rush = completions. Any NFL QB can complete passes with no pressure.
