Cut-Down Day 2.5

Well, it isn’t quite cut-down day, but the Niners got down to 69 players by cutting the following guys (16 to go):

Pos. – Name
WR – Issac Blakeney
S – Craig Dahl
DT – Darnell Dockett
G – Joe Looney
OL – Patrick Miller
LB – Philip Wheeler

By far the surprise is Darnell Dockett. HE of the tweeting his maladies and spending a lot of time yapping and not playing. It doesn’t bother me too much to see him go, as the D line is the best thing about the team at this point. He’s rarely played anyway, so whatevs.

Dahl? He actually had a decent preseason, so someone may pick him up, but Tartt has blown by him already. The rest? Meh. 2 O linemen getting cut is a bit surprising, but then again, the way they are going about dealing with the line has me confused. Unless they are clearing room for additions to the line.

(Familiar) Guys on the bubble to me appear to be Kendall Hunter and Quinton Patton. Kendall has lost a couple steps and still hasn’t seemed to be fully recovered, and Patton has been passed by Ellington and UDFA DeAndrew White. Let alone Jerome Simpson and Anquan Boldin. Dylan Thompson likely goes to the practice squad, as will TE Rory Anderson. Or they cut him and put Bell on the PS.

The rest? Who knows? I think a coupe more big names will be included. Reggie Bush?

Holy shit. That’s weird, even by V standards.

      Check Skeeb’s site Chuck.
Your alter ego is posting up a storm as Unnca_Chuck and Ucnca_Chuck.
Skillfully avoiding the spam filter as he goes too.
Quite creative I must say 😀

    So?
Who do we believe when it comes to roster moves?
PFT is suggesting that Desmond Bishop has been released from IR –
“The 49ers released linebacker Desmond Bishop from injured reserve.”

    http://tinyurl.com/nn6jqtj

I’ve been unable to verify that on the 49ers own site.
IR means Bishop would have been shelved for the entire season anyway.
They’ve still got 1 opening left vacant for the PS too, which is still holding at 9.

    RT
You can’t second guess every Baalke draft just because some team picked a better player after we made our choice. OMG everyone in the world would look bad after that.

  4. drob's avatar drob says:

Look at the niner drafts 80 thru 87 and count up all the picks bill Walsh missed on

  5. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I listed every player for whom Baalke has ever been responsible for drafting. 2011 was Scotty’s draft lock, stock, and barrel. Every single player. His entire career.
I then looked at one non-1st round player from the Seahawks, and one from the Patriots, neither of whom I was remotely familiar with. I mentioned in my post that I only looked at one from each team (I added Dont’a after I’d made my point because I did recognize his name.). Do you want me to go through all of them 2012-2014? I will.
I do wish you’d read my post before lamely attempting a criticism of what you think I posted. I posted Trent’s entire career and picked 1 guy from the Seahawks and 1 guy from the Pats at random for comparison. With the exception of Borland, Trent flunks. Period. First draft 2012. Who from 2012 is on the team? Game, set, and match.

  6. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Who on the 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 drafts is now starting for the now Pro Bowl deprived Niners? Hyde – who is promising, but nothing else, he could be another Archie Griffin so-so Buckeye. Lynch and MMartin – who stunk last year – by virtue of attrition. That’s it. That and Borland are Trent’s entire 4 yr career. That stinks.

  7. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I should have counted the punter. I consider punters starters (K,P,LS). My bad. And Hayne counts as the 1 possibly good FA acquisition. Boldin and TSmith are decent. Pears is a beast LOL.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Boldin’s a litlte more than decent. Bethea is a solid SS. Reid is a 2x pro bowler. 5 other guys are still on the team from the 2013 draft. 2014 draft has a lot of talent. Many of those players WERE backups behind the guys that just retired/defected.

Not sure what type of success you are looking for, but Carlos Hyde could be a 1,400 yard guy. He was the #1 back last year out of the draft. He was behind Gore, so what do you expect? 1,200 from the bench? All we need to do is draft Joe, Jerry, and Charles. No problem.

Buwwit still pines for me. Sorry, pal. I don’t swing that way. Keep your urequited love to yourself.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The first 5 guys in this draft look very promising and a couple of them could very well start soon.

Well I just became a victim of this site’s infamous post void.
    So RUFUS T
My last two lengthy and as usual perfect posts completely invalidated every word you’ve ever posted 😉
That being said you’re right I failed to read your post accurately and wasn’t referring to you with the imbecile line.
I do however like baalke and think he’s doing a good job as GM
The 2011 draft was Baalke’s imo

  14. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Reid went to the Pro Bowl once in his rookie year and was average last year.
Boldin’s been a 1000 yd. receiver and won the “Whizzer” White NFL Man of the Year award last year. He also went to the Pro Bowl a few times, most recently in 2008. Better than OK, OK? But not a Pro Bowler, and how many draftee and FA receivers has Baalke gone through? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometime, even if it’s a medium size nut.
Bethea’s been OK in his one year with the Niners, though his stats were way down from the Colts.
My guy Hyde at 1400 yds.? I wish I had a place to keep a couple horses, too, but it ain’t so. I’m hoping to get room for them, though.

So four years worth of drafts and FAs and we’re still about 20 starters short of a starting team. God help Kappy this year. You can’t blame ADavis for nobodies at C, RG, and RT with no depth of which to speak.

  15. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

You’re absolutely right, Rob. 2011 was Baalke’s. My memory failed; I was thinking of 2010. Trent got Aldon!!!!! OK, now there was a real pick. His treatment was unfortunate for everybody involved, perhaps more rod less spoil early on and he could’ve stayed and gone on to the HOF. But, he didn’t.
    Kappy was Harbs’ pick.
    Kendall Hunter is on IR.
    Bruce Miller. There ya go.

Add another backup and make it five years of drafts minus (to be fair) Harbs’ pick.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

You can’t grade a draft without games being played. Last year’s draft looks good. This year’s? We’ll see in 2017. Hyde should have a strong year. We are a running team after all.

  17. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

This Jason Pierre-Paul dude with the NY Giants.
Does it really matter to a D lineman whether he has his index finger on one hand amputated? What diff does that make, if any, in terms of playing the D line. I would think it doesn’t matter much at all for that position….

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

And Buwwit once again revises history to fit his idiocy.

‘Due process’ was Harbaugh all the way. You can’t scream about the owner not stepping forward to address this shit and then believe Jed’s pulling the strings. Unless you believe Jed got away with telling Harbaugh what to say.

Brooks status is determined by the league regarding suspensions. But it is well within Tomsula’s right to bench him. Which Harbaugh CHOSE not to do. Which was my point at the time. I don;t know what he will do, but it would send a message to the team that if you fuck around, your playing time is in jeopardy.

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Why didn’t Harbaugh bench RayMac, Buwwitt? Why did he start Aldon Smith the day after he was arrested on DUI charges? Cuz he didn’t give a shit about the allegations. My point then, as it is now, is the team should get in front of this and bench the guys fucking up.

So Jed makes the decisions on who plays and who doesn’t? You are fucking retarded. Brain dead feeb. You piss and moan that Jed didn’t get in front of this, and now you say he was pulling Harbaugh’s strings? Jed TOLD Harbaugh to play RayMac? Jed told Harbaugh to play A Smith after his DUI? You have absolutely no fucking clue how this works, do you? Make shit up as you piss all over yourself. You are in the perfect place over there. Blindy making shit up as you paint anything and everything in a bad light.

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

If Brooks plays, I’ll be pissed. It means that these guys can do what they want off the field and still get on the field. The league is all about deflection and sweeping things under the rug. Greg Hardy got 4 games after being CONVICTED of spousal abuse. Ray Rice got 2 games for clocking his GF.

If the league and the team are afraid to get in front of this, who will? If it ain’t the coach, then la de fucking da. Fiddle while the league burns.

Pot violations are onerous, but domestic abuse is yawned at. This is today’s NFL. Allegedly deflate a few footballs = being convicted of strangling and threatening to kill someone. Got it Roger. It is also why Goodell should be shit-canned.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

The team demurred to the league who decided upon no punitive action at this time. It lets the team off the hook so Brooks will play IMO.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Still a lot of ‘good ole boy’s’ in high positions within the league. I doubt much has really changed since the 50’s besides the fact that we have lots of new rules regarding the protection of the QB’s and WR’s. People are pretty much the same and it’s the social media that seems to make everyone aware of all the bullshit. The old nfl could hide most of the stuff under the rug, now they can’t.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Its an elite club of 32 old guys and a puppet commissioner no doubt.
Back in the day, guys like Lawrence Taylor could almost literally do whatever they wanted without repercussions. These days shit gets out and the PR machine goes into overdrive to try to keep the image squeaky clean. Reality is far different. NFL life is the same under the fake veneer.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

yeah, I was just looking at the divorce rate among nfl players and it’s significantly higher than the national average. It’s easy to look good when being interviewed after a game but everyday living is much more challenging to make work. My guess it that if you took a poll of everyone in prison 80% would tell you they did it because of a woman or drugs(sometimes that is the same thing). I kinda doubt that the other 20% would say they did it just for the money. relationships make some people do some really hard core shit. NFL players are no different.

  21. Winder's avatar Winder says:

sorry for no link, just plug in: “divorce rate among nfl players” and it will take you there

  22. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Goodell is a hypocrite of the highest order.

Listening to the players, pot actually helps with the aches and pains of the brutal nature of the game. But the suspensions around it are ludicrous.

    New thread is up.
