Well, it isn’t quite cut-down day, but the Niners got down to 69 players by cutting the following guys (16 to go):
Pos. – Name
WR – Issac Blakeney
S – Craig Dahl
DT – Darnell Dockett
G – Joe Looney
OL – Patrick Miller
LB – Philip Wheeler
By far the surprise is Darnell Dockett. HE of the tweeting his maladies and spending a lot of time yapping and not playing. It doesn’t bother me too much to see him go, as the D line is the best thing about the team at this point. He’s rarely played anyway, so whatevs.
Dahl? He actually had a decent preseason, so someone may pick him up, but Tartt has blown by him already. The rest? Meh. 2 O linemen getting cut is a bit surprising, but then again, the way they are going about dealing with the line has me confused. Unless they are clearing room for additions to the line.
(Familiar) Guys on the bubble to me appear to be Kendall Hunter and Quinton Patton. Kendall has lost a couple steps and still hasn’t seemed to be fully recovered, and Patton has been passed by Ellington and UDFA DeAndrew White. Let alone Jerome Simpson and Anquan Boldin. Dylan Thompson likely goes to the practice squad, as will TE Rory Anderson. Or they cut him and put Bell on the PS.
The rest? Who knows? I think a coupe more big names will be included. Reggie Bush?
Bush makes the team, he didn’t need to play in PS. Defenses will have to account for him. i see him doing big things.
Well, we are throwing screens. Kappy hasn’t but the other guys have.

I’m sure that tweet will go over big at Skeebs where unless it’s negative it ain’t worth discussing.
I would imagine that would be an accurate tweet on cut down day all across the league. Without more to go on to reference the quote, Trotters is tweeting useless information.
A bit more context:

Poor Buwwit misses me so.
Funny, all the animosity coming from camp last year was bullshit. Now it’s Gospel.
V was posting at 9:29 as unnca_chuck on “the other blog.” His post only lasted a few minutes. Skeebers is a fast worker. V is a crazy coot and funny.
Of course he was. He did this on the insider years ago.
Well, at least we aren’t sitting on our hands. The Niners traded a conditional pick for rookie UDFA center Nick Easton of the Ravens. Nee: Harvard. Had a great preseason.

The guy must be smart. Ivy League. Now can he play NFL ball?
Aaaand the Eagles cut Tim Terrific.
Once Bradford goes down, I’m sure they’ll re-sign Tebow as no one else will.
Bradford has been like a glass slipper in the NFL. Just a question of “when.”
There will likely be a few more moves regarding the line. Another RG soon.
Funny when Harbaugh was in the fold, Buwwitt never complained about the draft. Wonder why that is? Well, since he loves it here, I’ll explain it. Because when Harbaugh was in the fold, the team did no wrong. He was the company man. Praising every move or non-move made by Baalke and co.
Now that his favorite jerk-off material has left for the big house and a 4-8 record, all of a sudden Baalke’s moves are retroactively terrible.
Well, you can rest easy, Chuck. Barring an epidemic of QB injuries this year, at 28 you can RIP Tim Tebow’s NFL career. Too bad, I might have ignored NJ’s warnings about their fans and even rooted for the Eagles a bit this year. I’ll still root for them to beat out the Cowpatties.
It was a nice run while it lasted.
Easton is a good move imho. He’s not only been rated the best rookie O-lineman this pre season but the second best rookie. The same list had Tartt at #8. Amari Cooper was #7
I wonder if Easton will start at some point? If so does Devey or Martin start at RG ?
This could be almost as good as having Kilgore .Does this mean our weakest link is now Pears?
Might be a big move for our O-line. Wonder if we go all in and offer a mid rounder to someone for a RT upgrade.
Finally the 53 man roster emerges from the dregs of practice games…….ah…… pre-season.
Hayne and White both made it.
Sir Spit is ready to give up on football…….too much violence! I wonder if he’ll try a new sport…….perhaps women’s volleyball?
Not terribly surprised that Skov stuck.
He looked pretty comfortable out there this PS.
Moody flat out missed too many tackles IMO.
Kinda strange, that there was talk of Philly having interest in Ponder following the release of Tebow yet, Oakland cut Ponder anyway?
Why not try to get something from Philly?
Brooks is back and will play in game one
Kilgore is eligible game 6
With these and the trade for Easton Im feeling a lot better about things
And as this article suggests, it’s all about grabbing Picks when you can get them.
http://tinyurl.com/pfmhhhw
Which is why I’m curious to see if Ponder lands in Philly.
Oakland might have been smart to try to land a Pick themselves.
That’s certainly worth pondering about.
Chip snagged QB Stephen Morris from the Jags instead of Ponder.
Go figure?
Who gives a fuck about Ponder.
With the cut of James Looney the book is officially closed on Trent Baalke’s disastrous draft class of 2012 which of course included our #1 pick AJ “Bust” Jenkins!!!
I was excited to see LaMichael James picked. Oh well.
Me too, LMJ had the credentials but just couldn’t quite turn the corner. You just never know about the draft. But, I don’t see how any draft could be worse that our 2012. Did we get Mcgrew and Drunkenmuellier(sp) in the same draft? If we did then that was a stinker too.
The Eagles picked up Stephen Morris, UDFA waived by the Jags. Younger.
WINDER
The 2012 draft was when we drafted pretty much dead last .
At the time we had easily one of the 3 or so best rosters in football. Meaning we had no significant needs. Except one. The Nolan years had left us devoid of talented players with SPEED.
IMHO because we were loaded with talent but lacked speed both Baalke and Harbaugh just took a flyer and went all in for team speed.
Thus we got Jenkins and James with our one and two.
Both were offensive players I mite add
The rest of the draft rd. 3 thru 7 was a crap shoot us drafting so far back.
Baalke is our best hope IMHO and was GM of the year a couple years back and with good reason.
He’s given us a deep roster .
Anyone who thinks Baalke sucks as a GM is a fucking imbecile
A.J. Jenkins, LaMichael James, Joe Looney, Darius Fleming, Trenton Robinson, Jason Slowey, Cam Robinson, Eric Davis, Tank Carradine, Vance McDonald, Corey Lemonier, Quinton Patton, Marcus Lattimore, Quinton Dial, Nick Moody, B.J. Daniels, Carter Bykowski, Marcus Cooper, Jimmie Ward, Carlos Hyde, Marcus Martin, Chris Borland, Brandon Thomas, Bruce Ellington, Dontae Johnson, Aaron Lynch, Keith Reiser, Kenneth Acker, Kaleb Ramsey, Trey Millard…
It’s nice to hear that the non-fucking imbecile brigade thinks that 3 years of drafts is a Pro Bowl lineup. Here I thought I was looking at Tampa Bay West.
Sure are a lot of busts in football. Very sobering indeed!
RTFIREFLY
BULLSHIT
2011 WAS BAALKE’s draft.
You wanting to blame baalke for the harbaugh/front office breakup not withstanding
drob- I still don’t really know what to think about Baalke. He’s our GM so I am hoping for the best. But, the draft is definitely hit & miss and we have done both.
you guys have probably already read this but I thought this was a thoughtful take from a die hard niner fan. Had some good points.
http://www.ninersnation.com/2015/9/6/9253409/wes-bids-farewell-to-nn
Well, RTF, maybe it is easier to draft from the top rather than the bottom.
It’s like drafting without a 1st and with an extra 7th. So what? There’s what, 1 starter from 3 years on a talent starved team like the Niners? A couple role players and a few backup maybe some time in the futures?
Hell, 3rd round 2013 Seattle pick Jordan Hill had a better career in his six games as a starter last year before he was injured than that entire three year Niners draft sans Borland combined. I haven’t even looked at the rest of Scotty’s picks.
How’s PFF All-Rookie and then year two 116 tackles, 4.0 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles.grab you? Yeah, that’s the one pick of New England’s I looked at. 2013 2nd round LB Jamie Collins.
Oh, I just looked at one more, 2012 1st rounder at #25 Dont’a Hightower. Maybe I should look at more than two of their picks to see if the Pats missed?
Yeah, that’s article has a lot of valid points. I’ve been outspoken about how badly the older vets have been treated, and Gene Upshaw certainly stoked the fires when he said ‘tough shit’ by denying the players he played with and against. It has steadily gotten worse. More than anything it is flat terrible how the NFL, wallowing in money, actively denies ex-players support. They have upped the money to help more recent guys, but there is still a lot of denying and stalling. Much like the VA in a lot of regards.
Goodell really escalated the greed factor with the whitewashed concussion report, and the selling of the rights to have thursday night games, all the while saying he’s concerned with player safety. Utter bullshit. Among all the other greed-head bullshit he’s instituted.
The player stuff? Yeah, pretty awful seeing teams not doing the right thing regarding suspending guys when they are accused of shit. Brooks is just the latest example of a guy who is too good to bench in the eyes of the team. Seeing as the league isn’t going to do anything, whatever. I was pretty outspoken on RayMac, and he pretty much showed his true colors as it turned out. Does that make it OK that he was cut by 2 teams without being convicted? I don;t know. I just know that there certainly was enough evidence to cut him at the time since the team knew of an earlier event that wasn’t brought to light much later. Brooks? No, he shouldn’t be playing.
Am I outraged? No. Fuck it. I’m done. The NFL and the teams themselves have hidden behind due process and granted convicted abusers and DUI killers very light sentences until the Ray Rice video was finally shown for all to see. The fact that no one seems to give a shit, up to and including Rice’s girlfriend (and now wife), I’d care a little more. I know these guys aren’t choirboys. But all these things that are happening aren’t new. They are just more easily disseminated than at any other time in history. The good old boy network of turning the other cheek with a wink and a nod are long gone. Does that make the NFL more culpable? Well, yes. since these things happen with nauseating regularity these days, they need to do more than have pink socks day and stupid shit like that. Like baseball and steroids, football has a problem it wants to sweep under the rug but is having more and more trouble doing. I’m not blind to all this acting out by the players, but at some point you either accept these guys are bringing excess baggage to the game, or you stop watching. I don;t begrudge Wes his decision at all. I would hope that the new commissioner would address this shit better than the last handful of guys. Shit, Paul Hornung and Alex Karras were suspended indefinitely for life for gambling, and it was knocked down to one year. And that was 1963.
Throw in the latest bullshit in how Goodell handled Brady and that shit is more inclination that Goodell was all about his authority and how he wanted the moral high ground at the cost of the fucking due process he love to hide behind. Seeing how Bounty-gate was overturned, and the Rice debacle, he has certainly shit on the shield he’s so vehemently trying to protect.
Huh. Breaking news. Erik Kramer shot himself in the head saying he was suffering from depression caused by head injuries. Apparently he didn’t succeed in killing himself.
Chuck the irony in all of this is simply the NFL trying to police their own sport.
For years, long before security video and cell phones, the league operated in it’s own vacuum.
Goodell and the Ravens did all they could to control the evidence involved with Ray Rice.
Had TMZ not obtained the elevator video, Goodell was content to slap Ray on the wrist.
These Contracts in the NFL carry huge Cap consequences, just as we have now with Brooks.
My guess is, Baalke was happy to put Brooks’ fate in the hands of the League.
Now that the League finds no reason to eat his Contract on the ‘Commish’s Exempt List’, they’re carrying that Cap number on the 53.
If I’m Baalke, I wait for the final decision to be made on Brooks and, look for a trade partner.
I don’t care if he wins us 1 extra game or 6, he’s garbage as a human being for what’s transpired away from ‘his day job’.
Packers cut a 3rd and 4th draft picks from last year and 5th and 6th from this year.
Are you suggesting that the Draft isn’t a science 12th?
Go figure….
Look at the number of guys Pittsburgh just made waiver claims on today too.
2 of which were from Tampa Bay last I looked.
Something like that NJ. Everyone wants to hit on every pick but the stats show less than 50% make it.
Poor AJ Jenkins, even the Cowboys have given him the boot. Stick a fork in him…
2nd RD Pick Monte Ball waived by Denver as well.
A ton of players around he League have been IR’d for protection too.
How many of those ‘injuries’ are legit?
Very few I’m sure.
It’s a mechanism used to stash developmental players, until better options are available.
All that is required is that teams can’t play them.
It’s part of ‘the game’.
Denver dumped Montee Ball and claimed GB TE Mitchell Henry and Texans C James Ferentz.
As Coaches change teams, they change schemes, which involves changing players of course.
Surprised, to some extent, that Fangio or Roman haven’t sought former 9er players thus far too.
V still cracks me up. Someday maybe he’ll pay someone else for a brain transplant. i think he got the last one from Abby Normal.
