Well, game one came and went in the Jim Tomsula errror, uh era. All in all, the team looked good when the first and second stringers were playing. No major injuries, and the only minor one was to LB Desmond Bishop with a calf strain. The D line looked real nice stopping Hou 9 times inside the 10 yard line. Gaine Blabbert looked like not the 32nd best backup and made some nice underneath throws to the TEs. And surprising to me, the O line looked wholly serviceable in the first half. Kappy had the time to throw a deep ball to Torrey Smith, who blew past Hou’s 2 CBs. Kappy didn’t get enough air underneath it, but this is a play that these guys need to work on more to get the timing down. Gabbert had time to get the ball out clean without too much pressure. Granted, Hou didn’t play Watt, but the O line, which isn’t deep, played well. Til the backups came in, and Dylan Thompson was under siege in scrubbini time.
Jarryd Hayne had about a perfect day as one could hope for by doing great in PR/KR duties, and breaking off a 58 yard run in the 2nd quarter to set up the Niner TD.
The LBs were OK, and the coverage was fairly bleh, but we didn’t have our first unit out there for the most part. Dockett and Bowman didn’t play, and don’t expect to see a lot of them this preseason, but Bethea laid the wood a couple times, and the run D was stout, but I’m worried about the pass coverage.
Weird to say the least to see a 33 yard extra point. All in all, about what you’d hope for from game 1 of the preseason. No injuries, a nice TD drive, a nice goal line stand, and some points on the board from the 1st/2nd stringers. Houston won the battle of the Walmart brigade in the 2nd half 15-0, but the 1st and 2nd string won 10-8.

No one here is cheering Chryst’s promotion, skippy. That’s your straw man. I’ve been waiting to see what happens with the offense since they shit-canned Harbaugh. Harbaugh’s failings, time management among them, are known and documented things. Red zone offense and 3rd down conversion efficiency among some others.
My point is getting plays off with little or no time on the play clock takes away a lot of offensive strategy. The defense knows when the play is coming. Nolan did the same thing with the defense (multiple shifts, trying to disguise coverages) to varying degrees of success, and ultimately failure.
Audibling out of a play is easier with 15 seconds on the clock rather than 2, right, NoFear? I’m serious. Most of the time in the past 8 years, the team broke the huddle with less than 10 seconds on the play clock. Changing the play then was a study in time outs and delay of games.
Kill kill kill.
In other words, I’m waiting to see what actually happens before I bury the team in stupid posts bashing the owner for causing sup-spots, and global worming among the other perceived misdeeds. I mean really. Willis retires if Harbaugh stays. Same with Borland. And all the rest of this offseason’s worth of bullshit.
What do you see happening if Harbaugh signed a 5 year extension? Do you think all the front office problems go away? Do you think the team is magically 8 games better than you think they are now? Do the 3rd down problems, the red zone offense, the time management issues, get better?
If so, why didn’t they improve while he was here?

Seems like there’s some confusion as to what a check-with-me play is and who runs the huddle. No matter, just blame the coach. Specifics? Who needs specifics, it’s the coach. You know, the guy who won more games than any other coach in the league his first three years in a row, with two different QBs to boot. Yeah, he’s obviously who’s to blame.

If one looks at how terrible the Harby offense was I’d say most of the credit for our winning should have gone to Fangio and not any coach on offense, including the head coach.
Harby ran a college offense that did not work in the pros.
For an offensive minded coach he relied on his defense more often than not. We weren’t exactly acintillating on offense nofear. he never broke the top 10 and was 20 or worse 3 of his 4 years. No matter which QB.
The defense gave him field position and he kicked a lot of FGs.

This is a great example of one of my pet peeves. Repeat some false assumption until everyone repeats it as fact.
Besides, you aren’t going to know what’s changed until we play an actual game. But it seems to me that 19 seconds to get lined up and snap the ball is more than sufficient. Or should have been.
there is always an anecdote NF but that does not disprove the body of evidence the other way. Makes me wonder why the coaches and the entire world at large has made such a point of emphasis on getting to the line in a timely fashion.

Here’s the deal. Last year we had trouble with the offense getting the ball snapped. This year we did not have a problem getting the ball snapped in our first game. Same QB, different coach. You think maybe the numbers people can do the math?
