Well, game one came and went in the Jim Tomsula errror, uh era. All in all, the team looked good when the first and second stringers were playing. No major injuries, and the only minor one was to LB Desmond Bishop with a calf strain. The D line looked real nice stopping Hou 9 times inside the 10 yard line. Gaine Blabbert looked like not the 32nd best backup and made some nice underneath throws to the TEs. And surprising to me, the O line looked wholly serviceable in the first half. Kappy had the time to throw a deep ball to Torrey Smith, who blew past Hou’s 2 CBs. Kappy didn’t get enough air underneath it, but this is a play that these guys need to work on more to get the timing down. Gabbert had time to get the ball out clean without too much pressure. Granted, Hou didn’t play Watt, but the O line, which isn’t deep, played well. Til the backups came in, and Dylan Thompson was under siege in scrubbini time.
Jarryd Hayne had about a perfect day as one could hope for by doing great in PR/KR duties, and breaking off a 58 yard run in the 2nd quarter to set up the Niner TD.
The LBs were OK, and the coverage was fairly bleh, but we didn’t have our first unit out there for the most part. Dockett and Bowman didn’t play, and don’t expect to see a lot of them this preseason, but Bethea laid the wood a couple times, and the run D was stout, but I’m worried about the pass coverage.
Weird to say the least to see a 33 yard extra point. All in all, about what you’d hope for from game 1 of the preseason. No injuries, a nice TD drive, a nice goal line stand, and some points on the board from the 1st/2nd stringers. Houston won the battle of the Walmart brigade in the 2nd half 15-0, but the 1st and 2nd string won 10-8.

The only thing that mattered to me was getting the ball snapped in rhythm. That happened. I still can’t believe I saw that but seeing is believing! Now I can start looking for other things.
it was really good to see the guys finally on the field. Lot’s of things to be hopeful about at this point. I don’t take preseason to seriously until the 3rd game and even then not so much. If we can build some continuity with our new OL and continue to manage the game clock we just might see some good ball played pretty soon. I’m a little worried about our D-backs too but it is still real early to tell.
The only problem with Tebow’s performance was that everybody looked good against the Colts. Bradford didn’t play. Sanchez looked better than decent, and Barkley looked like a Pro Bowler.
If I’m Chip Kelley, I’m disappointed that this game did nothing to clear up that mess, but hey! How can you be really disappointed at playing a really good team like the Colts (no Luck this game) and kicking the snot out of their D? Plus, they’ve got themselves a keeper in 1st round WR Nelson Agholor. The first pass to Agholor was high and he made a leaping catch. With the corner badly misplaying the pass, Agholor turned on the burners and outraced a backer and a safety to the endzone. First time touching the ball! He later dropped an easy pass, then caught all the rest thrown to him. Now why can’t the Niners draft a real WR?

If you want a draft pick at WR how about deandre smelter. He’s a 4th round pick who I like a lot ! I think the kid will compete for the 4th WR spot. IMHO he can really be a good target for Map. Don’t forget Bruce Ellington and for that matter deandrew white !
Just think , all that talent at WR and we didn’t even have to use more than a. 4th rd draft pick on em. Sounds pretty damn good to me !
Oh and just for shits and giggles look what Seattle has been able to do with WR’s who couldn’t even make the roster here like Jon Baldwin !!!

Yeah, the line play was promising. Our depth may be iffy but the first 2 sets of lines played well.
What’s really funny about Skeebers blog is V and Spitty post long-winded bullshit that the rest of the clowns ignore. Yet they think people are paying attention and playing along.
Right 12th, and Bullit, NoFear and Skeevie are blowing the loads.
Funny how they tout TOP when the score was 10-8 Niners with a TOP favoring Texans (10:15 to 19:45 at the half. Mike Nolan football to win the TOP game and lose the scoring part. Mentioning anything about the 2nd half is even more funny.
ROB, this is why I want to see Kappy play more. Practice is all well and good, and Bergs will never forget how open AJ Jenkins gets in practice, but I just want to see him build consistency with these new guys. They have the chance to get something going.

I see some numbers people are breaking apart stats from one pre-season game. Next they’ll be explaining football to Kim Jong Un.
My only concern was if the offense looked cohesive. I was even happy our 1st and 2nd team units had a lead at half time. I don’t care much about the score but it was nice to see. The fact that our 3rd and 4th teams got killed in the 2nd half does not even phase me one bit. We weren’t trying to win as much as we were identifying players. The offense did look cohesive, something that never was the case until the last game or two of the regular season last year. I was happy with what I saw from preseason game 1.
Yeah for a first game it was fine. Of course on the “other” blog they’re waiting for a disaster.
