Through all the turmoil of this offseason, and who isn’t weighing in on it, the 49ers have a chance to at least get some more production out of their anemic offense.
The team doesn’t need to dramatically alter their plans. All they need yo to is pick up the pace on getting plays in, and run a faster tempo. This woul help with defenses getting settled in every play, and hopefully lead to a more dynamic offense.
Steve Logan, our new QB coach, is very well-versed in the West Coast offense, having taught it at ECU and other stops in his coaching career. Faster plays also jives with. Colim Kaepernick’s offense that he ran in college. Quick hitters with midrange a passes coming off that.
The question to me is was and will be the Geepster. He’s had a long and varied career in the background but now he’s at the forefront of an offense that has been stale, yet the perception is that he’s really in the hot seat. No shit, eh??
Out there in Talking-head-land the perception is one of ridicule and disdain for what the team just went through. Frankly, it’s a load of horseshit. This team needed a new offense in the least. I’m sorry to see Fangio go, but then again, I think the defense should be fine with our injured guys coming back, and a new crop of draft picks.
So all they need to do is gain more consistency and get better at sustaining drives. Hopefully this idea of 4 different coaches calling plays based on down, distance, and field position is long gone. It’s a wonder they moved the ball at all. But it certainly explains the disjointed nature of the offense.

After reviewing the additional measurables in Indy today, I’m keeping OLB Eli Harold at the top of my list.
LBs were pretty much underwhelming however.
I’d likely consider OLB Jake Ryan as an ILB too.
More research to do but, this Draft Class is all about DL for me.
Get at least 1 each at DT and DE.
Add a CB and WR too.
Berger, I’d consider Funchess as a TE, whether he blocks or not.
I like his size, just not enamored with his speed.

NJ- What you got on Vic Beasley? I still want Brown but maybe this guy might be your OLB/DE man. Not who would take. Brown is a classic 5 technique which is exactly what we need.
Beasley will be a ‘wish but miss’ guy I think Berger.
He’s listed at 6’3″/235 and also turned in a 4.53 today.
I like DE/OLB Eli Harold as a more realistic option for us – 6’4″/250 and ran nearly as well, 4.60.
Still adjusting my LB Group after seeing them in Drills today.
I’ve seen Harold play several times this year.
He caught my eye early on, and he hasn’t disappointed, after seeing him compete in Indy.
I think he’d be an excellent consideration to follow Ahmad.
There are several guys that likely would change positions IMO.
Jake Ryan for instance is playing OLB. I think he’d be better at ILB?
There are several guys that were tackling machines in College.
I’ll get my list tweaked over the next week or 2.
Correction – Beasley bulked up a bit.
He competed in Indy at 246, making him more in line with Harold.
Kid is a terror, nothing wrong with him if he slides to 15, which I can’t see happening.
I like ILB Stephone Anthony as well.

DT Grady Jarrett from Clemson also in the mix, numbers-wise with Malcom.

My guy, OLB Lynden Trail is getting noticed too.
40 times stunk but, not everyone excels with that phase of testing.
Hope we pick him up on the cheap, and spend some time developing him.

NJ- I think your analysis is so encompassing it is nothing more than confusing. I will want predictions at some point, soon. Throwing out so many names means you are throwing out no names. I try to make an enlightened prediction about guys I think the 9ers could use, not just the best guys everyone agrees on.

I’m also trying to assume that many of the guys we want, won’t make it to us, where we’re slotted to select.
In those cases, I have ‘alternative options’, such as I had to do with Odell Beckham last year for instance.
Assumed he might be long gone so, I tabbed Bruce Ellington as ‘Odell-light’.
That’s where the stats help me out.
Comparing other DTs to Malcom Brown is simply a numbers angle, nothing more.
Didn’t mean to confuse you, simply giving some options to compare.
I’ve liked OLB/DE Bud Dupree as well.
After watching him in the Drills, I’m wondering if he’s another version of Corey Lemonier?
Good College pass rushers, both about the same size.
Neither guy appears strong enough to hold up vs the running game however.
Can they bulk up, stay quick and, handle the stronger/heavier OTs?
Dupree tested well by all accounts in Indy.
I’m now reconsidering where he might rank overall, in terms of projecting to the NFL, just like Lemonier.
This is where all those Scouts, and Baalke, are trying to project them at the Pro level of competition, along with slotting them on the Draft Board.
Tricky stuff, but, I enjoy it, for what it’s worth.

Here’s my final predictions on the QB position, since I’m not likely to over analyze this position any further.
In no particular order –
QB –
Sean Mannion – OR State – 6’5″/227
Bryce Petty – Baylor – 6’3″/230
Shane Carden – ECU – 6’2″/221
NJ,,,Petty’s my pick from those 3,if nothing else he can sing the national athem before holding the clipboard..
Didn’t see Carden throw/drills, but did see Mannion who looks to mechanical with no touch on his throws.
Petty looked comfortable with accurate throws and nice footwork, total up grade over what Gabbert offers…
2 things I’ve learned about Baalke.
He likes to Draft with a 2 year window in mind.
He also likes guys with longer arms.
If you compare the current roster by position, many of the guys are VERY similar in terms of size.
Judging by the current roster, we’re loaded with CBs.
He’s likely expecting to lose 1 of either Culliver or Cox to FA.
Same with guys like Skuta and Wilhoite.
I also attempt to get into his head on how he might be planning to move at any given position.
One position that seems ‘light’ to me is the OLine.
I wouldn’t overlook his potential to Draft an OT this Spring.
He’s already holding several guys on Defense that sway my opinion on how to predict my Picks.
