This is my new all-time favorite commercial on so many levels. You have Joe acting like a goofball, you have a dumb premise, you have free pizza, and you have an unintentional look into the souls of 2 hall of fame quarterbacks. What could be better? Peyton Manning places himself in the dustbin of playoff football history with his line, “Isn’t it funny that Joe only shows up for the playoffs?”
Yes, it is funny, Peyton. And it is entirely true as well. Joe shows up and wins in the playoffs. You are left holding a slice . . .
Other than that, the 49er coaching search slogs on with nary a signing. AZ DC Todd Bowles warrants another interview for some reason. What I don’t get is if they were going to give the job to Fangio, they’d have done it already. If they are looking at a DC to fill the spot, there isn’t a better candidate than Fangio. He isn’t interviewing anywhere else for any HC spots either, so the vacancy remains. My thought is they are taking their time just to see if anything shakes out while they go with Fangio in the end.
Other than that, Dallas was hoisted onto its own petard as a 4th and 2 Romo to Dez Bryant completion to the 6″ line was overturned by replay. Loved the tweet from the Deetroit Lions: #We know how you feel. How much do you want to bet that Jerry screams to the competition committee to revise that rule. As the rule is written, the call was right. But the rule is stupid beyond belief. Dez takes 3 steps with the ball in his possession, and stretches for the goal line on his way to the ground. The ground, which can’t cause a fumble, can apparently cause an incomplete pass, despite said the 3 steps and reach for the end zone. Great game, however, as a hobbled Aaron Rodgers still managed to make killer plays and win in the end.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing I like better than seeing the Cowboys losing, especially after the gift they received last week, but the Megatron rule should be changed back to what it was before. Anyone can plainly see what the right call is. Yes, there are bang-bang plays where the ball comes out quickly on a hit, but Dez’s play wasn’t due to a hit. It was due to his action to stretch for the goal line after he caught the ball. Two feet down with control of the ball used to constitute a completion. This talk of commonly perceived motions and football moves after the catch are pretty ridiculous. The NFL seems hell-bent on enforcing rules that make the game entirely more subjective.
Still and all, a great game. The amazing play of the day was Julius Peppers desperate reach to cause a fumble from DeMarco Murray as he turned the corner on a sweep. He had clear sailing for at least 40 yards, but for the strip by Peppers. A game-saving play for GB.
Listening to ESPN radio, Mike & Mike Show. Brady is 9-1 in going to the Division championship. Manning is 9-1 on 1 and out. hmmmm…Dennis explain again why you want Manning as your QB?
9 one and done’s for Manning. That is hilarious, I had no idea he was that bad……..
Somebody on TV said 9 one and outs is a record.
IMO, the main reason Denver lost was because the D-line did not show up.
like I said on the last thread, Joe is the smart one, he is eating the free pizza!
I’m almost as interested in changing the new rule the Pats used. Did you see the play? Receiver went in the game for the play. He then said something to the back judge for a sec, with the fan noise covering whatever he said, and immediately lined up in the slot position BUT ON THE LINE.
Guess what? He was ineligible. That’s what he told the BJ. THE TACKLE was eligible and only the Pats knew it. Result? Huge play. Perfectly legal.
Sometimes I wander into la la land and find myself agreeing with V about what the league has become. Scary place, V-land.
Great to know the rules. But that was some weird shit.
Thing is, by the 3rd time NE did it, Balt should have figured something out. Call a timeout and get clarification. Instead John runs on the field and gets a 15 yard penalty.
Leave it to belichick to come up with that shit. For all the people calling it cheating, cry me a river. It’s a rule in the books.
That’s not a new rule. It has been on the books forever. It is really the opposite of the tackle-eligible plays you see once in a while. With a shifted line, you had 2 guards to the left of the center. The RB was really the RT.
The reason it worked so well is no one ever uses a usually-eligible guy in an ineligible position. But Belichick did just that. It turned the the TE on the left, who looked Ineligible, eligible.
Thanks. I wondered WTF that was.
Denver lost to Indy for the same reason we lost to Denver. Absolutely no pressure on the QB.
I thought it might never happen, Roman got hired away! Oh happy day! I feel bad for whoever is the QB in Buffalo next year.
You know what is ironic, the only coach I knew I did not want was Rex. It just makes sense that Roman went to work with him! LMAO!
It will be interesting to see what happens in Buffalo, was it Harbaugh, Roman, the idea of 12 guys making an O scheme work?
That really is a wide open division, Brady won’t last forever. I bet they draft a 1st rd QB.
no pick in the first round this year so they would have to deal a lot of their picks to try to get a 1st round qb this year.
No shit, bergs. They are bemoaning the loss of our genius in Skeebs land.
Gase is evidently still the front runner. Niners to make their push to sign him as we speak.
Gase does not excite me. Mostly because of the unknown. He had Manning. How much of that offense was Gase ad how much was Manning? I’ll support any coach we hire but Gase is not one of the one’s I was hoping for.
The one positive I’ll say for Roman is it looked like he started to see the light for the last two games. A little late to the party but the play calling was much better the last two games than for any other game this season. We actually had some rhythm in those two games. One of the big deals was he stopped trying to trick the other team and just run stuff we were good at. For his sake, I hope he remembers that in Buffalo.
Gase has been at least ear a cogent passing attack. Given the DCs (and fucking Ryan and McDaniels) they could do worse. What’s even funnier is that NoFear holds the fact that Gase was here one year under Nolan as some sort of diss while worshiping the ground Nolan grovels in.
Like McCarthy is part of the Nolan coaching tree.
Those guys act like hurt little children. Skeebs is touting that buffalo will have a better record than SF. Meanwhile, that already happened. Gee. Think the fact that this team under achieved had anything to do with the coaching changes?
Good God. Unreal. Boobie is thrilled with Roman! Let’s throw a parade! He should rename that place the Foot Fetishist.
I worry about our defense for next year if we hire Gase. Our defense has been championship worthy. We just need to get the offense up to snuff.
Having said that, we are going to be hurting at DE if Cowboy retires. Even if he doesn’t we need a DE or two. The 3-4 defense needs 3 studs on the D-line to succeed. I think Dial will be OK at one spot but he is unproven. We are OK but not great a NT. I’m not sold that Tank is ready. A lot of questions at D-line.
Denver will interview Gase for HC along with other candidates according to PFT. Niners are interviewing him now for a second time. Gase is a bit of an unknown quantity for me, who gets most of the credit for Broncos O output Gase or Manning? Gase is young and inexperienced for the HC position. Would the Niners lose Fangio and Tomsula? Sounds risky to me.
Skeebs blog is living in the past. Harbaugh and Roman are gone. Man up and deal with it. How about throwing some support behind the team instead of throwing gas on Baalke and Jed for trying to get another Lombardi? Harbaugh had a fair crack at it, didn’t get it done, and the team went 8-8, nuff said.
12th- They hate Kap so much every thought is based on that.
Is all this wailing really still grounded in Smith being replaced?
NF is no fan of Smith I know.
Kap has a make or break year coming, extra pressure because of a new OH and HC being on the scene and probably all new terminology.
OC not OH
Yeah, if getting Gase means losing Fangio, I’m not down with it.
So as of right now EJ Manuel is the starter, with Kyle Orton retiring( about time) gonna be a long season for the kid especially getting the plays in under Roman.
Can’t believe Rex Ryan (who I can’t stand anyway) would take the Bills job, where he’s starting all over like with the Jets, with “No QB” when he could of waited out the Falcons and land that job, with an established QB in Matt Ryan.
Just confirms to me what a total doofus he really is!!!!
Agree Kat,
Strange for Ryan to take the Bills job except that the Bills D is very solid and the Nolan D for the Falcons was bottom of the league ish…So from that perspective I get it, plus he gets to play the JETS twice a year…Wait, I think I talked myself into understanding why he took the job after all lol.
Yeah 12th,
That must be it,Rex gets his chance to stick it to his former team twice a year, though both games will be real snoozers to watch!
If it comes down to a FG though, advantage Bills, Dan Carpenter👍 is a much better kicker then Nick Folk👎
Shit, maybe Denver wants to keep Gase as some way to keep Manning around for one last push.
But this isn’t an either/or situation.
Yet.
Peyton’s totally backing Gase to be the HC Chuck.
Freakin Bronco’s are all of a sudden in complete turmoil. If Gase walks, Peyton probably walks or retires.
Don’t think Bronco’s were thrilled with Del Rio’s defensive schemes against the Colts as well, having Talib matched up against Ty Tylton and getting burned like toast.
Good chance both coaches will be gone( Gase maybe 49ers, Del Rio Raiders) along with most of the staff as Elway(lol) rebuilds with the possible loss of D Thomas and others to F/A..
