Well, the waiting remains. I figured by Tuesday we’d have made our move. But no. As the week rolls on, still no head coach to drive the Majic Bus off the cliff to Mediocre-town. Or furthur to Greatness. Whichever the case may be.
As we know the Greg Roman era is officially over as he hooks his wagon to another certified nut-job in Rex (feet-first) Ryan. The blather around the blogospheres is that Roman is getting a bad rap, as this was Harbaugh’s offensive design, and Roman merely ran it. Whatever. Truth be told the offense has been various shades of fair to poor since the Khaki Express rolled into town in 2011. The defense is and was about 3/4ths of the reason for the success of the team. My contention was that Harbaugh should have jettisoned Roman during the 2012 season. His BROTHER did it with Cam Cam, and look at that result. These last 2 seasons were more of the same inept red zone offense, 3rd down conversion rate, stale plays, and struggles getting plays in.

I think the track record of really young first time HCs is pretty dismal. Other than Madden, I don’t think any have done well…

He’s a Martz disciple, worked with us for a short time while Martz was aboard.
Definitely a gamble as a potential 1st time HC.
Adding the new wrinkle, of Fangio threatening to bolt if Shanny isn’t hired, makes this more curious by the day.
Is Fangio suggesting he doesn’t want the HC gig?
Or, he’ll stay if they bring in the Shanny Duo?

Denver looks pretty squirrelly as well, NJ. Would they really even consider a josh after his last stint? Very curious offseason so far all around. Stl needs defense and barely try for Rex? Or Bowles? Jets and bills need offensive help and take Rex and Bowles?
I’m not too concerned about gase’s age. Gruden did fine as a young coach. Gase just seems like the least fucked up and best fit as of now. Still want Fangio to stay however.

The best gift for a OC a great D-line that creates turnovers so that the offense gets more opportunities to score. Whoever is the head coach, draft a DE/DT in the first round or get a good one in FA.

I just wonder if Denver will make a big push to keep him.
Some things about Gase are intriguing. Problem is he is only 36 and has never been a HC. That isn’t necessarily bad but when I think of a leader I usually want somebody a little older. He could be the next genius but can he lead. If we hire him I’ll support him as long as he is supportable.
As much money as I hear Fangio is getting to be a DC I don’t think he would walk for a lateral move unless he got the same or similar money elsewhere. I hear he makes over 2 mil per year. If somebody out there actually knows his salary please let us know.

All I can find out about Fangio’s salary is he’s one of the highest paid assistants, and he got a raise when he signed his one-year extension last year.
Shit, If I’m Gase, do i want to coach a noodle-armed AARP rep (or possible unknown scrub/rookie), or a young stub QB with a rocket arm and a very high ceiling? One who is currently learning is doing what he can to improve?

Yup. the big thing now is what Fangio decides. And the rest of the staff. Hopefully they can keep some sort of continuity. I don’t think Gase is going to discharge the entire coaching staff.
His best move would be to let Fangio have total control over the defense (as he did under Harbaugh) and ‘promote’ him to Ass’t. HC or some shit.
