“Raise your hand if you think this was the best preseason ever. . . . No raised hands.” To paraphrase Jimbo there, what a trainwreck this offseason has been. Just when you think the Seahawks would get all fat and happy, run for the money, and lose their focus, it turns out the 49ers were the team to shoot themselves in the feet about 15 times since February.
I won’t even start with the myriad distractions, fuckups, and arrests, but it’s safe to say the issue with the 49ers isn’t very much about on-field issues. Yes, we have a young secondary, and yes, our D line has taken a hit, along with the linebackers, but now there’s news that Michael Crabtree has a calf injury. Not sure of the prognosis yet, but hey, at least he didn’t give his leg a molly and try to bang it.
And, in what should be a very rousing start to the NFL season, we have Green Bay and their All Universe QB, Chico’s own Aaron Rodgers going up against the Legion of Boom in the great white Northwest. This game will surely be a test for Green Bay’s maligned defense, as well as an early test for Seattle’s vaunted D.
This season can’t get started fast enough. Bring it on.
John Kuhn with the RTD. That helps absolutely no one in FF.
It does if you play one of the new leagues which allow in-game subs. Or if you’re playing against the ‘hawks defense.
ME! Chuck’s got the Seattle D!
Seems like I sold out to Denver’s offense this year. All but the QB that is. Thomas bros, Sanders and Ball. Week 4 is gonna be a bitch.
Alright!!!!!
Clinton-Dix on the field? Ha Ha.
I like touching myself.
Yer givin’ my ’76 Scout a bad name.
Dirty comments are fun, however, I would never disparage the best SUV ever manufactured.
NoFear – You’ve got a ’76 Scout? I sold my ’78 Ford F100 stepside. Biggest mistake ever. She was beaut. How long have you had the Scout?
Yeah, it was one of my rigs when I lived in the N Idaho woods. I was a gypo logger and it saw duty as a skidder, stump puller, snow plow and pulling real skidders out of the mud. It was indestructible.
Nice tackle there. Ha ha.
I’m an asshole
I see it’s kiddie hour now. See you guys later and GOOOO Pack!
Great shot of Mt. Ranier in the Seattle skyline. DYK? In the excitement leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII, John Hickenlooper, Governor of Colorado, named 53 mountains after the 53 members of the Denver Broncos. In response the Washington State Senate passed a resolution on Friday January 31, 2014 temporarily renaming the mountain Mount Seattle Seahawks. The resolution expired on midnight Monday, February 3 2014.
Your tax dollars at work.
And a sin tax on me for misspelling “Rainier”
How the hell does Aaron Rodgers continue to get gigs to be the “Discount Double Check” guy? He makes Adam Sandler look like Brando.
Well that was fun. Think Green Bay misses Raji? Ouch.
You’d never know Seattle lost a bunch of starters.
It’ll take a miracle for the Seahawks not to win the Super Bowl. Nobody else is in their class.
Talk about laying down the gauntlet and punching your opponent in the goddamn throat. Seahawks picked up right where they left off after they got through throttling my man Manning. Their offense, and I’m sure Berger will tell you, looked more wide open and complex than ever. Scary good.
Still the team to beat.
I wasn’t paying attention to formations, but I noticed one empty bacfield set that I’ve never seen before anywhere. Neither of the WRs was truly wide, near but not next to the line. One had one receiver behind him slightly offset. The other had TWO receivers behind him. I do remember the passing play being a big success. I’d like Roman to be half that creative.
Well, besides Percy Harvin, who is a freak, and probably won’t stay healthy for long, he only went to the TE. Lynch was their game plan which makes double good sense against a team with a broken NT and Aaron Rodgers to keep on the bench. And he certainly wasn’t running in wide open lanes like Berger imagines. He was steam rolling through bad tackling like he always does.
One game does not a pattern make. We don’t know if Seattle’s O line is improved with all the hype Carpenter is getting, or if the GB middle of their defense is weaker than Unca Chuck logic and debate. We don’t know if Aaron Rogers’ effectiveness is hurting from the Packers’ loss of both Finley and James Jones. Right now, all the above look true, but until those truism are put to a three or four game stretch test, we’re still in the process of building arguments. But one thing is clear to me…. GB is soft, and the Seahawks are young and maybe the most physical team in the NFL. I honestly think the best chance of stopping a Seahawks’ repeat is the 49ers getting home field advantage. And that my friends is not going to be an easy task because that stadium basically gives Seattle 8 wins each year, which is a huge advantage. With all the problems the 49ers have, and Jed York not able to secure Harbaugh long-term, the Seattle Seahawks could be the new dynasty in the NFL, and right or wrong, many people will say, if a few things line-up correctly, that Pete Carroll ran Jim Harbaugh out of the NFC West. My own opinion will be that Jed York ran Harbaugh out, but by that time it won’t matter much. Without Harbaugh the 49ers will be the Seattle Seahawks’ bitch for the next decade.
Well, Russell Wilson had a typical RW day. Short passes, move the sticks. Under 200, and 3 balls that shoulda been picked that GB graciously dropped.
If this is to be the Niners game, they need to do a shitload better on 1st down to help with their 3rd down conversion rate. More often than not, Seattle got 5+ yards on 1st. They didn’t get into 3rd and long very often. They wore GB down with the run run run. GB was rolling early, and made a lot of 3rd down conversions, but that well runs dry more often than not. And Green Bay’s defense is no great shakes with BJ. Without him, they were killed trying to stop the run, and missed a boatload of tackles, and not just on Lynch. To the tune of 200+ given up. Offensively, GB just doesn’t seem to have the horses to keep up with the big boys anymore.
To borrow a phrase from Dennis, this game is crucial to the season. Lose to a crappy Dallas team with no discernible defense, and we could very well be singing the dollar bill blues.
This offense needs to be a little to a lot more explosive depending on how the defense comes out. Dallas has playmakers on offense, and can score. Can the Niners braintrust use their newfound wide receivers? Can Jim and Greg pull out of the 70s college football offense? Jim and Greg. Pancho and Lefty. Make it happen.
Niners over the Cowboys, 45 – 17.
Speaking of Rainier Beer . . .
Best ad ever . . .
The stadium hype is nonsense. Teams should be able to get their plays off without too much trouble. Green Bay wasn’t beaten by the crowd. They were beaten by 2 dropped picks early, and a few poorly timed penalties.
Seattle ran right through BJ Raji’s shadow and did their usual dink and dunk to move the chains.
BLEEP to “dink and dunk!”
BLEEP Seattle!
Woof! Bleep!
RayMac will play. Thus keeping the world safe for wife beaters everywhere.
J Mart starting in place of Anthony Davis. Oh joy. Let’s hope no one hurts his feelings out there.
I’m not too concerned about last night’s game. Just NFL schedule rigging again. I mean, wasn’t the last GB-Sea game in Seattle? Wasn’t the last SF-NO game in NO?
I saw this when the schedule came out. 1 game likely edge to the SCrows. GB can’t defend the run and a mobile QB. Lambeau would not have changed that, but it would have changed everything else. Like, say, what happened to all those preseason D holding in the secondary calls? Seattle had one obvious long PI last night, but otherwise the Pack was repeatedly guilty but the Crows were little angels all game?
Nothing to see here, move along.
