Great song about nearly getting shot in a bar fight in southern Mississippi. Up there with Charlie Daniels first hit, Uneasy Rider. Back when Charlie Daniels was a long-haired country boy . . .
Wow, the angst over signing one of the few top safeties rages on. Whatever. It’s a solid move that will bridge the gap to the next guy we draft in May. I mean really. Bethea’s better than Craig Dahl and that’s what matters to the 49ers.
Other than that, crazy FA times. The Raiders try to sign Saffold only to watch him fail hi physical. OWrd is Prince Valaint put the kibosh on the deal, thus overriding Dennis McKenzie. Who knows? Who cares? Other than that, Denver is signing big-tickets guys (Talib, D Ware, and G Tate) with the loss of Champ Bailey and presumably Black N Decker. Ahhh. I see Decker signed with the Jets. Who will throw him passes? If they are lucky, it’ll be Todd Bridgewater. Or, I hear Tim Tebow is available. Anyhow, Philly has cornered the market on pass-catching RBs by signing Darrell Sproules. Him teaming with LeSean McCoy in the Chip Kelly Experience should be non-stop fun. Foles should get about 6,000 yards through the air just dumping the ball off to those guys.
Me? I’m still waiting to hear if we will sign Tarell Brown. The longer he lingers, the more likely he re-ups with the 49ers.
Nothing breeds imitation like success. I see us imitating SEA a bit with the Cook move at CB. He could be our harasser in chief tasked with mugging WRs coming off the line and into his zone ala Sherman. Also see Beth-A playing a lot of close in run support which he still does very well and not so much pass coverage = SS more than FS I believe. That leaves at this point Reid playing off, deep mostly with Culliver the other CB helping out back there in pass coverage. (falls on knees, sez “Lord heal that man!”).
Losing Brown hurts but this has been mishandled since he and his agent fucked up and the Niners did little. And that is why ya go the extra mile NF to show a player you want him around. We didn’t, he’s gone. Hard headed business move? Sure. And dumb FO calculation that will hurt us “some” this season no matter who we start or draft. So we are going to need help in the draft with pass coverage medium to deep routes. We have dueling suggestions between NJ and Spit as to who that might be. My 2 cents but I see Cook and Beth-A playing closer to the line and stuffing the run as much as possible. It’s a gamble because we are now thin due to loss of Brown on the back end. That’s where we are rolling the dice.
Here’s Chris Cooks comments that got me thunking:
“Earlier Friday, the 49ers signed ex-Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook. He is expected to be a bottom-of-the-rotation player, although at 6-2 he has a chance to make an impact with the team.” (espn)
“They want me to be the press guy,” Cook said in a conference call Friday. “And that’s what I like to do. I feel like I’ll fit in well with the one-high [safety] scheme that they like to run. I came from a two-high scheme. And I feel like a one-high scheme and a man-to-man scheme fits me well.”
Maybe we could have organized a telethon for poor T. Don’t worry about his hurt feelings. He probably has a case against his agent’s errors and omissions, or whatever their equivalent professional liability, insurance anyway. Or he could read the effin’ contract like everyone else in the business world is expected to do. Remember the players/teams catch-all phrase, it’s a business.
He either pissed some folks off or didn’t play well enough to get the money. Yeah, “He’s gone!”
I’ll get over it but will our pass D w/ TB, DW, and CR departures? Bombs away on Niners coming up
Spit I’m really pulling for Baalke to select one or more of of YOUR guys, just to see how really stupid he is.
Fact of the matter is, it’s your agenda that matters here, not talking 9ers with half an ounce of intelligence or, shared appreciation for what many of us enjoy doing here.
Talk about sh!tting on the blog?
All you do is talk sh!t.
It’s called “warm spit.”
NJ – Because you don’t have any original thoughts of your own, why don’t you go to the 49er website and cut and paste all their comments over here under your name. That’s what you do anyway. Why not just declare you’re a homer and a company man through and through? Make it more fun for all of us. Just a thought.
Spit my opinions are formed through lots of information I obtain from numerous sources.
I can think for myself.
You should try it.
Just a thought.
You choose to take exception to my input.
My mistake was to think there was any possibility of sharing opinions on the Draft with you.
Facts elude you.
Something I tried to deliver wherever possible.
You’re free to voice an opinion, like the rest of us.
Keep the personal insults out of it.
Just another thought.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
If you’ve got an issue with Baalke, take it up with him.
Another fact of the discussion is, he’s paid to make the choices you and the rest of us will accept, like it or not.
Again, if he choses some of your options, it’s a foregone conclusion he’d be a genius I’m sure.
Rag on.
Here’s an original thought for you Spit.
I’m going to pencil in DE Larry Webster from Bloomsburg as a possible TE conversion for us.
I do read Bio info on 100s of Draft eligible guys during the off-months.
“If you have an issue with Baalke, take it up with him.” Or I can take up my issue with you, who appears to be Baalke’s boy, or mouthpiece. What’s the difference?
You’ve obviously got no other agenda here then to create friction Spit.
Baalke is going to do what he’s paid to do.
What’s your purpose for trashing me?
Got nothing better to do?
NJ,
You’re a victim of cyber bullying, and you should stand up against bullying. Nobody deserves that, especially not Trent Baalke’s boyfriend.
Trent just might pick some of your guys Spit.
Then what?
You obviously enjoy the rhetoric of bashing opinions.
He’s the GM.
Deal with it.
You sure don’t bring much in the way of intelligent conversation otherwise.
Why don’t you check in on Tom Gamble and give us an update.
Who wants to converse? ,I dictate. Take some notes, mother fucker. If Trent picks some of my guys it’s because he reads this blog. He should read me more often. Might save his dumb ass.
Gotcha Douche Nozzle.
The world awaits your pearls of wisdom.
What’s Tom up to?
You helping him with his talent evaluation these days?
Are you attempting levity? With that limited Trent Baalke lovin’ brain of yours? I bet smoke started coming out of your ears. Don’t give yourself an aneurysm, Baalke lover.
You’re the one obsessing over Baalke.
Got something intelligent to offer or do you just live to talk sh!t?
You got nothing.
I got nothing? I got the 2012 draft. Oh wait, that WAS “nothing,” so maybe you’re right. Talk about your swing and a miss. What about AJ Jenkins? What about Frank Gore making 6 million dollars this year? Gore’s money makes our secondary and our backfield worse. These are Baalke decisions. La Micheal James? That’s a first and a second round bust at the hands of Baalke and we aren’t even three years into his reign. You have to be one stupid mother fucker to worship Baalke.
Get your feeble mind out of 2012 Clown.
Fire off your resume to 4949 Centennial Blvd.
How they managed to survive without you amazes me.
Bring something that involves some thought.
If you’re capable of living life looking forward instead of reverse.
Hindsight is always 20/20.
Geniuses like you are always right.
Shit as we all know is a blog killer. Feel free as I do to ignore it.
Looks like our drafting woes w/ WRs extend to signing FA WRs as well. Goes back a way if you include Manningham. Cap limitations not helping either. Maybe Gore is a ‘luxury’ we can’t afford as we remain thin at WR and in DBs. Hello draft. Or maybe another trade?
For now, here are the top cornerbacks and wide receivers still available.

Phil you can pull LaFell off the list –
Pats did a 3yr/ $11M deal with him and, are courting Kenny Britt as well.
Safe to say Carolina will be Drafting a WR or 2 in May?
I always liked Britt when he played at Rutgers.
Problem is, he’s turned into an off the field headache in recent years.
Too bad, good size and speed but, he’s obviously not too serious about playing up to his potential.
There’s not one guy on any of those lists I’d be interested in acquiring. James Jones….. maybe. Aaron Rogers dropping dimes on James repeatedly throughout his career, with him at first having trouble catching them, lessens his value. Even with Rogers, Jones still disappear in some games. Kaep’s not going to improve his value. Roman’s system over McCarthy’s isn’t going to improve Jones’ value. The rest would be like Mario Manningham…. little contribution.
I guess there likewise is little to be had in a trade. Who do we have to give up for a productive WR or DB? Picks I guess.
Yeah that’s what I feared. Makes our ’14 draft all the more vital
Yeah football- and blogging about football- is no different than anything else in life = if you don’t have yer shit together it’s hard to get good results. As the 60s song goes “Easy to be Hard” (Jesus Christ Super Star or Hair- I ferget). May work fer the hard ass but not so much for others. People like it a lot better when it’s easy for sure.
So the draft looms large in determining filling our needs as we suspected given our cap situation. We will have $6M+ after June 1 to add to cap #. Use that to sign one of our own?
There’s got to be money for the Draftees too Phil.
Baalke may have another FA bargain in mind, we’ll see what comes.
FA Poker, see who puts a guy on the street and, whether he’s a good fit.
I was surprised we made the moves we did this early.
I guess Whitner departing meant filling the void with the next best option.
The Draft will certainly bring some additional youth to the WR/Secondary units for us.
Phil,
NJ’s brain is so, so small. We shouldn’t overwork it like this. Between you talking cap space and draft choices, NJ checking in with Trent Baalke on an hourly basis, and me cyber bullying NJ somethin’ fierce, something’s gotta give. I think we should stop talking about anything Trent Baalke related so NJ can recuperate. Right now he’s passed out on his kitchen floor, mumbling to himself, “Baalke does NOT suck, Spit. He does NOT suck!” Let him curl up in the fettle position and sleep this one off.
You’re a flaming legend in your own mind Spit.
Sad there isn’t much of mind to enjoy however.
Dream on Numb Nuts.
You’re the missing talent adviser Baalke has been seeking since Tom Gamble left.
Fire off your resume, the Draft is on the horizon.
He might not have all the facts you can provide.
Go do some Draft research, you might just learn something.
If there’s any room between your ears to absorb anything factual.
We had our flurry of excitement when FA started and that’s posed some new scenarios to mull over. Now I think we’ve entered the dead season fer awhile awaiting new developments. News. You can usually count on this being the moment the inmates get restless and the pie throwing/food fights commence. We’re right on schedule my friends
Trouble is Phil, Spit feels the need to get abusive.
Opinions are like A$$holes.
We’ve all got one.
I can share opinions and accept that we all can’t always agree.
It’s sports.
Too bad the resident clown can’t get paid for all his knowledge.
Yeah no need to get testy
Darren Sproles was a 4th RD selection – 5’6″ 187
He’s earning a living by adding speed and KR abilities to the teams he’s played for.
I suggested Dri Archer in pretty much the same vernacular and get sh!t on for having an opinion.
His guys are more valuable because they’re HIS guys.
Maybe LMJ was chosen with that sort of idea in mind?
All 3 guys are small with speed.
But, since LMJ has had problems cracking the lineup, Baalke is clueless.
Maybe LMJ just isn’t up to the Pro level yet?
AJJ flunked that test too.
It happens.
You want to talk Draft, football strategy whatever, it comes down to accepting input from everyone.
That’s the idea of this forum.
Keep it civil and air your viewpoints.
Nobody needs to be denigrated for having input about the team we follow.
No, let’s take cheap shots and abuse people.
In the end, Baalke and Harbaugh make the decisions.
We’re left to debate the results.
Yep NJ even tho this forum is about a game we should still act like adults.
NJ, consider the source. Spit likes to stir the pot and it is what it is, no biggie.
Normal people here appreciate your viewpoints and insights as we are all too lazy to put the effort into the kind of research you do and it is not a matter of who is right or wrong, its the draft, and even the GM’s don’t have much idea which players will be available at any given point.
Spit is “for entertainment purposes only”. He should be a politician really as his various arguments on the surface sound sort of plausible but most don’t stand up to any real scrutiny. That is why he is resorting to personal attacks with you, you take him to task over his “facts” and it exposes it for what it is.
He is a character on the blog. He and I don’t agree too often but he does come up with a nugget or two of solid stuff and keeps a blog rolling for good or bad. When not being belligerent he can be fun to blog with.
Just my thoughts.
Agree 12. Good analysis lol
Now boys just let out a loud BLEEP!
BLEEEEP!!!!!! in Rob style.
Yeah, if Spitty wants to get banned back to the hinterlands of the Merc for being a dick, it’ll happen.
What say you, skippy?
Chuck not that you need to listen to me about how to run your blog but I wouldn’t be in favor of banning Spit for whatever that is worth.
I’d ban that SOB quicker than you could say bratwurst.
Sanders is gone. He was available. 3/15? Shit. He never got to the building though. Although his agent is getting roasted.
We need to find some nuggets in da draft this year = WRs
I hope they take a DB in the first round. Spit pointed out that there is more depth at CB than safety as a reason to take a safety first and he has a point. I still figure they take a CB in the first if value is there and then a toss up of WR or safety next. Don’t want to see a WR in the 1st round unless they get really lucky and a player drops further than expected.
It’s a guessing game and that’s mine.
I did want to see a FA WR picked up but it hasn’t happened yet and is looking less likely now and the same with a FA CB but not too crazy with them taking Cook. I get that he will get his shot in TC but even so.
Yeah, I had hopes for Emmanuel Sanders, but nope. Christ, re-sign Manningham. He;s getting little interest and we can have him for cheap.
Shit, the last 8 slant passes we threw were to him.
Everyone is saying BPA BPA BPA.
I’d rather see them go with a corner with the 1st pick, as I have a lot more faith in Bethea than Cook. And I don;t see any more help in free agency for any position.
NEW THread is up . . .
