Coming down to the wire here. There’s a lot on the line for both sides. Seattle has little chance to win the West, but they are fighting for their playoff lives. If Seattle IS to win the West, they need this game plus help. If the Niners want to get the 1st week bye, THEY need this game. Green Bay is playing the Tennessee Tuxedos, so they will most assuredly go to 11-4. Seattle has some depth problems in the defensive backfield. CBs Thurmond and Trufant are questionable, No decision has been down regarding Richard Sherman, so he’s apparently cleared to play, but Brandon Browner is still serving his suspension. I’m sure Jim Harbaugh knows this, so I see the Niners opening up early on the deep passing attack again.
The Niners D of course has to worry about Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson. I think the defense come out of the nickel they played a lot of last week. The Niners need to focus on Lynch more than they had to with NE. Lynch is a beast, and he looks to tear the Niners up if they go light on the line. But Wilson brings a big run threat as well as his passing game. They use the read option, and have been slowly running it more and more. So who decides this game? The crowd? The weather? The coaches? Turnovers?
Yeah, could be all of the above. This will be the 6th nationally televised game for the Niners, and they are a gaudy 5-0 so far. There’s a shitload of talk regarding the freshman class of quarterback who are tearing up the league. From Griffin to Luck to Wilson, they are gathering all the press. Colin Kaepernick. For all he did in his few chances, there’s not a hell of a lot of notice about him, other than his tattoos and how he got the starting job. A few out there are taking notice, but as of now, he’s still pretty much under the radar. Frankly, that works in the Niners favor, but in the end it doesn’t really mean much.
Seattle’s a young team making waves, but I think the Niners are the stronger team, and they will prevail. Also, I’m gone all day, so play nice…..
Forty Niners Forever 
This play calling is just too conservative. Once we fell behind the coaching did little to nothing to make up the ground. One would think coming out in the second half there would be a “wing it” mentality but no, still throwing underneath.
Kap looked bemused today, as though he is playing a gameplan he is not comfortable with and when the play breaks down he didn’t know what to do.
Harbaugh needs to go back to how Kap plays naturally and stop trying to drive a square peg into a round hole. It ain’t working, Kap is not Alex.
Defense = Justin Smith and Carlos is looking worse each week.
Rogers was lights out on Welker last week.
And his last good week was? He is not the player he was last year and today he gotvhis ass kicked all over the field even dropping a gift INT.
No one is optimistic about the playoff now. How could they be with the piss poor coaching on O and D really hurting w/o Cowboy. Seattle is tough at home = undefeated but I guess they got a lot of calls too
They did get a lot of calls and non calls Phil, but nothing to change the overall outcome of the game.
Wow. This red zone offense is brutal. Too much bunched up shit. The formations beg teams to play us tight and it works.
SCO is not the way to use Kap. Makes no sense.
The failure was systemic. Complete and total. If Harbaugh doesn’t take the blame for this one he doesn’t have a hair on his ass.
No game plan. If there was one it was laughable.
No preparation. The Seahawks are pretty good at home and it’s noisy there. Surprise!?
The execution matched, but as I mentioned it was across the entire team. Harbaugh and staff let the team down on this one.
This is on Harbaugh, no doubt. He had to know Lynch would run wild without Cowboy and that Kaep would have to score points. I knew it. But there was no passing attack. Kaep isn’t holding Harbaugh back, Harbaugh is holding Kaep back. The 49ers need to attack deep into secondaries and Harbaugh needs to trust Kaep’s arm and smarts. Harbaugh, plan and simple, needs to pass to set-up the run. It’s that simple. Harbaugh needs to learn to pass more to set-up the run. Harbaugh needs to get Jenkins, Crabtree, Moss, Tom Celek, Vernon and whomever else is on the roster to run downfield routes. That’s where the 49ers must attack. Kaep has the arm and the escapability to bring a very real down field game to SF, but Harbaugh either doesn’t trust Kaep or Harbaugh and Roman can’t change their stripes. If that’s the case, and Harbaugh and Roman are too slow to realize they need more down field, vertical passing, the 49ers’ playoff run will be short lived. Jenkins needs to come on now in a big, big way.
And another note. If Harbaugh wants to run those underneath passing routes that are quick hitters from Kaep on the outside (not underneath over the middle), Harbaugh needs to do that with bigger receivers. Mohamed Sanu would have been a great receiver for just that play (the one that just ended Manningham’s season) because Sanu is big and powerful. But Manningham is smaller – quick and fast.
Harbaugh’s play calling is starting to get suspect and stale. And even though Harbaugh has a better head to head record than Pete Carroll, Carroll won championships in college – Jim Harbaugh did not. It’s my feeling that Jim Harbaugh needs to learn to change and change quickly. I made the case long ago that Harbaugh cannot keep starting Alex Smith because Smith couldn’t win a Super Bowl and because Harbaugh owes it to his veterans to see what Kaep had (I made that case last off season). But to me it doesn’t look like SF has what it takes to win the Super Bowl, so now, to beat Carroll, Harbaugh needs to not only get more aggressive with Kaep in the years to come (which Harbaugh will), but Harbaugh’s legacy will also have a lot to do with how Trent Baalke drafts because Cowboy and Gore…. even Soap, Rogers and Moss will need to be replace this off season. And no, that doesn’t mean Cowboy and Gore should be dumped next year but it does mean their replacements should be on the sidelines with the team next season.
Harbaugh clearly doesn’t want rookies starting, but I think that’s foolish. Look at the success Kendal Hunter had last year. Jenkins, James and Kaep should have played earlier because of exactly the scenario we have now: key injuries with little depth. I question Harbaugh’s policy of not starting rookies unless totally necessary. These guys should have gotten more time in garbage games like Miami and other games. Bill Walsh was a great at giving backups playing time in games. It was a different era of haves and have nots, where teams weren’t very good and Walsh could crush ’em and plan to start or play backups earlier. But Harbaugh’s way of not starting or even suiting up his rookies is about to kick Harbaugh in the dick. All is not lost, but Harbaugh got out of the gate early and he’s coming up against some adversity. Let’s see how he faces that adversity after Pete just embarrassed him on national television. And don’t give me this, “Sometimes it’s harder to bounce back after a big win.” The good teams overcome all adversity. That’s how you win championships. If Harbaugh wants to give us excuses, then Harbaugh isn’t who we thought. And remember, Jim Harbaugh has never won a championship – not at any level.
I’m not sure about the passing game at this point. I see Kaep looking deep but I’m not sure what he’s seeing. Could be there isn’t anyone open deep so he goes to Crabs or Manningham or Walker short. His throw to Moss in the end zone into three defenders probably would have been picked if not put out of reach even by Moss and that throw to Vernon in the corner should not have been such a looper. If Davis could have caught that on a rope he might have scored instead of had his bell rung jumping for the ball. I’m thinking Kaep has not totally adjusted his decisions to the speed of the pro backs.
Totally different from Alex just fixing on his short guy most of the time. I think the options are there for Kaep, but not sure what was keeping things short for the most part.
Maybe we should have thrown more but I have to wait until the coaches film comes out, usually Tuesdays, maybe later this week, and see what was going on downfield.
Well, all this does is make next week’s game hugely inmportant. But the Niners should be able to beat AZ at our house.

Everybody likes to give Carroll shit, and I dunno I guess he deserves it, but I respect the guy for his mastery of the defense he runs. They were ready for us. We couldn’t do shit against them and worse we evidently weren’t ready for the fight. Like we thought they’d cower and lay down when the Niners came to town after whippin’ up on the the mighty Pats.
We could have at least practiced an opening possession or two and run from a script with minimal adjustments. I’m sure we have a couple dozen plays we know usually work against Carroll 4-3 defense. Move the ball and score. We started with a bomb and then we were done. WTF?
What’s disheartening is that we keep going away from what’s working during the games and we simply do not prepare what has been working every third week. It’s sickening. So I’m calling our 2nd playoff game a definite LOSS right now. It’s systemic and it’s

What’s disconcerting is Seattle is down to their 3rd/4th string DBs and they are blanketing our guys. None of them are very fast, but you’d think they’d get open once in a while.

On the FortyNiner first possession of the second half they did open it up.
Kaepernick moved from their own 20 to the Seattle 32 on passes of 13 yards to Moss and 35 yards to Crabtree. Manningham then caught the pass and fumbled when he was hurt.
Moving 48 yards in 2 plays is IMHO opening it up and going downfield.

The biggest problem was red zone ineptitude. The Niners got down there 6 times? 2 FGs and a garbage TD ain’t cutting it. Kappy had his worst game by far passing. The D was really missing J Smith, but these guys got manhandled all night on both sides of the ball. No run game, and no one getting open. The few times the Niners got pressure, Wilson easily escaped for gains.
Losing Manningham sucks. Losing VD sucks. This game could really cost the team with all the injuries.
I guess the big hope is that the Minn beats GB next week.
YES, GB falls to Minn, BUT rally we are toast with our dumbshit coaching on O especially.
