Week XIII – Woolite TIme

I’m sure you guys don’t remember that old Woody Allen movie that had Gene Wilder drinking Woolite at the end of it. Not sure how these guys tied us at out house and then proceed to lose in their house to the lowly Jets, but that’s football. Some teams match up well with others, some just get your number that day.

And, seeing as that last Ram game very well may be the last start of Alex Smith’s 49er career,  at least he went out on a good note. His last throw was a TD to Michael Crabtree, and his last game and 1/3 he was 25-27 for 304 yards and 4 TDs. Anyhow, I’m not here to bury Alex, but to praise him. Or is it the other way around?

This does however, for all intents and purposes, appear to be the start of the Colin Kaepernick era no matter what Jim Harbaugh says. My thought is the Niners come out and try their new QB out and go a little more pass happy. Some of this is due to Kendall Hunter being out, but some of this is due to just getting the kid some more work. They need to get Cappy up to speed for the playoffs and we have 5 games to get this right.

I hope this isn’t going to be as crappy as the last Ram game, but I seriously don’t think the Niners let this one get away.

Hope your right chuck. I don’t see any other reason to start Cappy unless we do plan to pass the ball more. To me the reason we sucked so bad in the last Ram game was coaching and preparation on our part. We couldn’t adjust to their attack and that really showed in our play. Hopefully, we play better this time, at least let’s not get burned on anymore fucking punts. That was embarrassing

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

There hae been some major coaching fuck ups this year- Harbaugh screwed two good drives in the NYG game by inserting Kap late. Fangio didn’t get after Ponder in the Viking game, special teams have been poor. Jimbo *did* come out throwing downfield in the Bear game as I suspected, and obviously they didn’t get to 8-2-1 with George Goober coaching. This will be a very interesting finish, and with two tough road games before the season finale, the finale could be *very* interesting.

  2. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Note for Flavoro and anyone else who has a problem with Alex Smith comments: I’ll tell you what I’ll post-whatever the fuck I want. Smith is in virttually every thread that Chuckles puts up- no one has a problem with Smith comments at all- only pro-Smith comments correcting factual “misstatements” that fail 12’s “sniiff test”. When dumbfuck comments like those that claim Smith can’t make a pass he’s made dozens of times stop appearing, you’ll see fewer Smith comments from me. Whan the fabrication that Colin has completed six 30+ air yard completions (he has 2) disappear, even more Smith comments from me will disappear. The obsessive need to build up Colin by trashing Smith is ignorant. Flavor- you post very litttle about football at all here, do that instead of concerning yourself with what I post,
But I agree it’s time to switch gears, and focus on Harbaugh.
    As Jason Whitlock wrote:
“Players do not like nor respect a head coach who lies to them. Respect is earned with being able to depend on the truth, and it can quickly fade away with the loss of it.
Both Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers have come too far to let a controversy of this nature set them back. It is probably time to set things straight right now before the surging leaders of the NFC West begin to have doubts about their “fearless leader!”

  3. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Stats is stats but as far as any players being unhappy with Harbaugh’s choices:

Alex has 11 big play passes on the year, Kaep has 8. Alex was on a pace equal to Gabbert. Kaep is on a pace equal to Brees, the league leader.

    Harbaugh says, “Any questions?”

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

The bottom line at the end of the year doesn’t have shit to do with big play passes- it’s success as a team- and that’s measued by playoff success now.And anyone who doesn’t think the players don’t have a preference for one or the other hasn’t been paying attention,. Ex-players have been largely against Jimbo on this, as others here have noted. For the same reasons current players will be if this backfires. Smith has supporters who will be totally fine with the move-as long the team keeps winning.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

You don’t “really understand” that two games hasn’t established anything quite yet. You Smaters are the ones who should just STFU and see how it plays out.

    • NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

You really don’t understand what the big play capability does to boost the offensive power of a team which already is top rated in the other two phases? You don’t get that?

I think you just hope Kaepernick fails. That’ll teach that meany Harbaugh to bench Sir Alex the Flawless.

Do you think now that Harbaugh might have had this change in mind when he brought on Manningham and Moss? Should Harbaugh have told Alex he is just starting until Kaep looks ready to take over?

  4. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

    From Maiocco:
“New starter Colin Kaepernick wore a helmet on the sideline when Smith was the starter. And Scott Tolzien wore a helmet when the 49ers had the ball during the one game that Smith was inactive due to a concussion.
The only difference is that TV cameras can be expected to regularly show Smith on the sideline during games now that coach Jim Harbaugh announced Kaepernick as the starter…Quarterback helmets are outfitted with radio transmitters — indicated by the green dot on the back of the helmet — that relay the play call from the sideline into the huddle. The backup quarterback is expected to follow along as those calls are going into the game.. ”

So we’ll put the ignorant comments on THAT non-issue,to rest. Now where was I? Oh right, getting ready to root against Kap..

  5. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Time fer some perdictions: Niners vs da Rams. Who you gonna call? Final edition
Phil: 28-20 Niners. This is our last 2am game of the year and the only reason I’m watching (listening) is because of Colin Kaepernick. I think the D rises to the occasion and shuts down Amendola.

Rtfirefly: Already did that Phil. 37-16 Niners in the Dome.

12th man: 35-21 Niners, mint sauce anyone?

    unca_chuck: 28-17 Niners . . .

twinfan1: 20-13 Niners.. As I’ve said, I don’t like to pick against my team. If I have doubts, I prefer to just watch the game. The Rams game is one we should win but we played so terribly against them at home, it’s not an easy call. And I flashback on the second game against them in 2010 when Singletary did everybody a huge favor by starting Troy Smith. If he hadn’t, he’d still be the coach. Anyway, I’ll take a flyer anyway, 20-13 Niners..

Grumpy Guy: 27-6 Niners. I think the DEFENSE will be up for this rematch. They know they shit the bed big time at the Stick. They’ll be wanting to show that was an anomaly. I’ll take 27-6, 49ers.

    Winder: 26-16 Niners

Irish Kevin: 24-10 Niners. Now the Niners Game, Jimbo is still conservative when he has a lead. I just don’t ever see a blow out like the Niners had when Bill was the coach. there will not be any 55-10 game. 3-4 TD’s is all Jim wants to see and then put it on the D. With that said Niners 24 – Rams 10

snarkk: 30-17 Niners. I do think that the Rams game was at least partially the result of some Niner rust from the long time between that and the previous game. Niners sleepwalked in the first quarter. I doubt that happens this time; Fangio will have the alarm clock set, the defense will come to play. Bowman will have about 25 million guaranteed reasons to smack Stephen Jackson. 30-17 Niners…

barleyfreak: 23-13, Niners. The Rams have only scored over 20 points 15 times since 2010. Yes, you read that right. 2010. Four of those were against us though. But not this time. Our D was a sieve to their run game last time. Not this time. Amendola got off the LOS easily and had Rogers spinning like a top. Not this time. CK plays just ok, defense dominates, 23-13, Niners.

The spread varies from Twin’s 7 pts. to Grumpy and Rts’ 21. Who’s going to be the genius this week?

    • phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

Flavor: I think the D is going to come out smokin and focused today. Niners win 24-6

Alleykat: Kap will get it done with his legs as much as his arm today.49ers will be to fast for the Rams on their own turf….49ers 31-9!!!

Del Mar Dennis: 24-23 St. Louis. I hope Alex remembered to bring his pom-poms. Hey, Phil. Sorry my prediction is late, but I’ve been busy spreading the holiday cheer. I’ll be using the “New Dennis Math” to come up with today’s score…

  6. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

I’m thinking we convert a fourth down or two instead of going for the long FGs. $100 ATS $100 on the over. 28-14 Niners

Rams get 7.5, O/U is 41. Had to look it up.

As far as Smith/Cappy goes, well, it’s a big part of the season, and a huge part of the outcome.

But NoFear and Twin need to get a room . . . Do either of you think at some point in the near future one of you will smack their foreheads and say “Egads! He’s right!”

    I’m not holding my breath , , ,

Chuckles, did it ever occur to you and Fear, or you and V, or you and the dozens of others you went at it tooth and nail on the Insider for years to “get a room”? No- because like those guys, and Flavor, and many others- you LOVE to fight, it’s YOU. And, of course, I do too. So cease and desist with any nonsense chastising others for engaging in the activity you’d rather die than forego.
    Now-Mr. Smith.
Number One: that he was in the 8th year here and starting until his injury makes every Alex “butt-buddy” right. Period. If he never throws another passs, we were right. Period. Or maybe you’d like to see the comments from Fear, V, *YOU* over the years. You were wrongo- spectactularly so, I might add.
And the very very few who did support Smith were set upon like, yes: crazed jackals. Now, to the current situation- there’s a case to be made and his record makes the case-that he should still be the QB. I ‘ve also acknowledged Colin’s good play, and his classy behavior in a very delicate situation. There’s no need fo tearing down Smith in order to build up Kap. This is not a done deal, which explains Jimbo’s pathetic attempts to placate Smith.
Now, when I turn on the game today, I’ll be rooting for my team as I have been for 38 years, anyone who doubts that can fuck off. The argument that I must not be rooting for Colin is the same argument that would say that anyone who has been critical of Alex hasn’t been rooting for the team.

Twinfan thinks he can force others to his way of thinking by calling them names. Where have you seen that since you graduated grade school?

According to Twinfan the count is now three for the number of head coaches that have treated Smith badly. Nevermind that that is also the total number of head coaches Smith’s had since signing on the dotted line for truckloads of cash. All idiots according to Twinfan.

He claims to root for Kaep but anyone who has sat through a game blog of his constant sniping would have to disagree.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

“According to Twinfan the count is now three for the number of head coaches that have treated Smith badly” Actually that’s the opinion of many football people. But,as per your theory, you’ve been rooting against Smith with every start he’s made for 8 years.

      • NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

  74. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

7 points for the half. I’ll keep him in the “Bs” despite that last “drive”. Denny, the idea is not to just avoid sacks, it’s to at least occasionally get significant yardage. First quarter-B. Second quarter C. I’m going with B- rather than C+ cuz he’s a kid. I’d give Smith a “C “.

  75. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:
