Game Day – Carroll vs Harbaugh Part Six (or in French, ‘six’)

This should be an interesting game as Pete Carroll has a shot to try somewhat even the score with Jim Harbaugh. Jim “what’s YOUR deal?” Harbaugh seems to have a leg up on his skirmishes with Carroll going back to the Stanford/USC days.  Harbaugh was 3-1 vs Carroll in college, and. so foar inthe NFL, is 1-0 vs Carroll. So, the onus is on Carroll to break the vise-like hold Harbaugh has on him,  and for all intents and purposes had better players in college, and whose team is coming on pretty strong defensively this season. They are on a roll, and look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive for one more week.

Pretty heady stuff, seeing as how they started the year in the shitter by going 2-6. As this division is supposed to be weak sauce, the rest of the NFC can’t seem to close them out. All in all, though, the Niners should win out and wear these guys down.

49er inactives – Tolzien, Ginn, Brock, Willis, Kilgore, Person, I.Williams.

Why the 49ers keep their best QB inactive is beyond me.

Just in case Phil missed it from the last thread: 24-17 to the town littered with a Starbucks coffeehouse on every corner.

  2. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I hate cheering for the Raiders, but that looooong TD pass to Denarius Moore really helped my fantasy team.

  3. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

How bout that Mike Nolan-led Fish D sticking it to Tom Terrific and Co. in Foxborough?
Give that man another HC job…

  4. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

I think T-Blow caught a little caught up in the birthday preparations- this might be the worst QB performance, since, well-the last worst QB performance by T-Blow..

They must not celebrate Christmas in Buffalo.
For they gave poor T-Blow, the old heave-ho.

And a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Thanks again for playing in our little FF league. Hope you had some fun and look forward to seeing you again next year.

I don’t know who is running the Raiders show.

Tebow and his disciples really did have a mulligan this week.

Bold prediction for the day: not only does “Beast Mode” score the 1st rushing TD vs our D this yr, he also goes for 100+ yds.

Hey, a fight on the kickoff. I’m loving this game already…

  11. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That was that dude’s FIRST NFL catch. He just got promoted off the PS.
    Figures.

  12. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Fucking Doug Baldwin. Ex-Cardinal bites Harbaugh in the ass.

  13. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Goldson and T. Brown should be ashamed of themselves on that play.
Poor tackling/angles doesn’t even begin to explain that debacle…

  14. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Yeah bad tackling

  15. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Jezzus OB for VD

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I blame both VD and Alex on that one. If Alex leads him inside, it’s an easy TD.
Even still, VD shoulda got both feet in bounds for a big gain.

Not so Green Akers on that FG. No money.

Tackling has been shabby to say the least…

  20. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Is there anything more annoying than the rah-rah demeanor of the Marin county boy Carroll?

  21. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Romo left with a rt. hand injury. There goes my FF Championship out the window…

  22. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The G-Men’s W eliminated the Iggles from the playoffs.
They need to take an emotional dump and give Romo a field day…if he returns.

  23. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Nice play by Smith to keep the play alive and hit Frank. Good job.

  24. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I hope Delanie is OK. On the bright side, at least he won’t drop any more passes today. 😀

  25. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

When did J. Smith get banged up? He missed the last series.

  26. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

    J. Smith is probable to return. Leg (ankle?) injury.

Thank Christ. He’s our best defensive player. w/o Willis on the field.
Even with PW active, an argument can be made for Justin…

  28. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I hate to harp on it, but our tackling has been SHIT thus far.
    Learn how to tackle!

  29. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

56 yds on just 7 carries for the Beast.

    Learn how to tackle!

  30. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Thank you NaVarro for learning how to tackle. Nice play.

  31. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Fortunate that was only “running” into the kicker and not roughing.

  32. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

VD drops another one. We can’t afford this today

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

My friend Faithful and I had a schtick back on the Insider (SFGate) 3 yrs ago where we’d ask each other on a daily basis if “Did we trade Vernon Davis yet?”

I think that needs to be revisited.

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Somebody is calling for a trade of Davis here. He’s done shit today

  33. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Chargers are mailing in another one. Season over I’m thinking

  34. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Ya think this 3rd dn play is going to The Beast?

  35. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Hey, I was comment #49. I’m superstitious as hell. Hope it works out…

  36. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

This review is taking forfuckingever. Play ball!

  37. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

A little cute there Seahawks…busted play

  38. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

WTF was that play? Was that by design? Pete Carroll has The Beast mowing us down and he tried to get cute with that shit?

I wish I knew someone who would threatened his life. He deserves to die for that play call.

  39. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

And Tavaris didn’t make a great effort to stretch out for the EZ.
Make that a twofer for the designated hit man.

  40. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    17, Edwads makes a catch

  41. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Rathman happy with Hunter on the run

  42. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That CB, Browner, for Seattle is HUGE.

Smith has a ball batted down at the LOS. Shocking.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

He’s listed at 6-4 221. I’ve never seen that before for a corner.
      That’s big for a safety.

  43. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    VD catches in bounds, short…useless

  44. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Time for D again as our passing game is not working…again

  45. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Tavaris Jackson sucks. He throws the Hail Mary OB?

Even the Virgin Mother needs a helping hand.

  46. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

T-jack is awful but the rest of the Seahawks have come to play. We aren’t good enough to just show up and win. I appreciate what our D is doing but I have found the play calling on offense to be boring and predictable.
I like Harbaugh going for it on 4th and 6 though, I just didn’t like the call.
If you’re wondering why Ginn was getting so many throws his way this game answers it–our receivers get no separation from the coverage. Ginn can’t catch, but he can at least get open…….

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

It may take a hail mary and 3 Our Fathers to win this game. Hawks look like they want it more. Our receivers/ passing game not very effective. Where is Morgan?

Oh yeah we needed him in on the play with 45 point lead

  47. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I can’t believe the consecutive drops on those passes. V Fucking D can’t get his feet in bounds, again, and Crabs follows that with a drop. And another VD drop that would have been a 1st down deep in Seattle territory.

VD has to go. He needs to pull his head out of his ass. Or he needs to just block.

  48. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Nice throw by Alex to Crabs to start the 2nd half…

  49. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Yeah it’s a weakness alright

  50. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Nice play Alex to make sumthin’ outta nothin’

But we have to waste a TO on 4th dn. Shitty coaching and generalship by our QB.

  51. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Great play on both ends there by Alex and VD.

    Seattle was holding to boot…

  52. Chico's avatar Chico says:

    Touchdown Niners!

  53. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

TD Frank! Great opening drive to start the 3rd Q.
Excellent play by Alex and VD in particular…

  54. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Damn. VERY sweet drive there. Need a quick 3 and out to fuck with these guys.

  55. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Of course, VD has a great drive, and he GOT HIS FEET DOWN!

  56. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Dennis, is on his best behavior, and Twin runs away?

I guess the Romo injury is balancing the scales?

  57. Chico's avatar Chico says:

Good runback and great field position.. Lets get some more points up there.

  58. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Late throw in the end zone by Alex. Lucky it wasn’t picked off.

  59. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

3rd and goal and we run a draw to Hunter?

That’s Harbaugh’s faith, or lack thereof in his quarterback.

Jimbo is the Grinch, not I said the Cat in the Hat.

  60. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wow. Carroll gives the O another shot, and we don’t take it.

  61. Chico's avatar Chico says:

Didn’t like that call.. C’mon D, stop them.

  62. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Harbaugh gets a little too cute for his own good.

Got the lead, though. Another 3 and out for the D, and we’re good.

  63. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Bottom line: another 3rd dn red and zone FAILURE. We came into today ranked 30th and 31st respectively in both categories. It’s not all Alex’s fault, but he’s got a big in hand it…

  64. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

How bout that Kyle Williams? Who was it again that scouted him at ASU and the Senior Bowl and said he would be a play maker?

And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: “How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
“It came without packages, boxes or bags!”
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
“Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”

  65. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Alex had like 15 seconds there to check down. At least we got a first down.

  66. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That’s twice that Kendall Hunter has been tackled by snipes.

I guess he was the lone guy who found them on that 8th Grade camping trip.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Be honest, who here got suckered in on snipe hunting?

Chuck? You have better luck at the whorehouse than nailing one of those…

  67. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

Still can’t get it in the EZ, terrible.

  68. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

ANOTHER 3rd dn failure. When Alex rolls right, you can just forget it.

Green Akers just set the FG record for most in the year. If I were the Niners, I’d keep that quiet.

    • grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Yeah, that’s one record you don’t really want.

We have to get better in the red zone next year.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I have an idea on how to fix that problem.

Paging Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning white 49er courtesy phone please.

      • grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

It ain’t going to happen. I have more chance of being the next pope, and I’m not Catholic.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

But PLEASE tell me you wish it would happen.

And I know it’s a long shot (as of now given his medical uncertainty) but with cap space and Harbaugh as our coach, it’s not as big a stretch as believing in Santa Claus.
Who is real by the way…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

Denny, do you ever spend a second considering the other end of the play or are you just so simple that all you can process is what you see on your tv screen? We have NOBODY getting any separation out there. When he misses the throw, that’s fair game. But that isn’t what’s happening most of the time. Again, there’s a reason Ginn was getting so many throws— he was the only fucking guy open

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Flav, have you ever heard the term, “throwing the receiver open?”

Steve Young talks about it all the time. Talks about Alex’s lack of initiative to make that play. Alex has done a great job of not turning the ball over. But he doesn’t make enough plays. Sometimes a QB needs to throw caution into the wind and take a chance. Alex like to play it close to the vest.

I’d like to play him at Texas Hold ‘Em. I know he doesn’t have the guts to bluff.
He’s another Phil Hellmuth incarnate (minus the Championships) Fold away…

  69. Chico's avatar Chico says:

Aldon Smith is a fucking beast!

  70. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

That guy is a fucking beast

  71. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Fine time to block our first punt of the year. If Pete Carroll fucks up this situation…

Lucca Brasi is coming to see him…

Never mind. TD Beast. I told ya he was gonna score today.

  72. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Put everything on your defense and ST, eventually, there going to make a mistake. That’s the price of playing for field goals and leaving teams within one score.

Gut check time for Smith and the offense.

  73. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Well, it’s setup for an Alex comeback…

  74. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Hey, Michael Robinson finally made a play for us. Dickhead.

  75. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    What a play by Crabs.

  76. Chico's avatar Chico says:

What a fucking pass and catch on second and a mile….

  77. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ bout. Alex took a shot down field. Great throw.
Not a bad catch by Crabs either…

  78. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Still playing for FGs. And lots of time on the board even if we make it. Don’t like the strategy.

  79. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

3rd and 6 and we run Frank.

You guys tell me if that would happen if we had Peyton Manning at QB?

No fucking faith in our QB. Playing for FGs ain’t gonna beat the Saints at the ‘Stick.

  80. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Seattle only needs to play for the FG to win. Will the 49ers go to the prevent defense and give it to them, or will Fangio bring some pressure?

  81. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

Disgusting ad. Was it necessary for the dude to be holding an assault rifle? That was bush league. That’s a fucking Taliban ad. Horrible.

  82. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Too much time for Tavaris to throw. Let them to the 45 easily, now with two minutes they only need to get about 25 yards for the game winning FG.

  83. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    Big play coming up.

  84. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than good.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

We’ve been lucky quite a bit this year. Luck usually doesn’t win playoff games,
quarterbacks do. Quarterbacks who play to win.

  85. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I thought we sucked on 3rd downs. The Jets were 4 fer 21 today vs the Giants.
Franchise my ass. I was on the wrong end of that contest. I had the J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets!

Justin Smith with the strip again! It’s Philly all over.

  86. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

Really looking forward to this fucking handshake …

  87. Smokey's avatar Smokey says:

    Grant has filled in nicely.

  88. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    Grant has been unbelievable.

  89. Smokey's avatar Smokey says:

  90. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    Big mistake by Forsett there.

  92. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

  93. Chico's avatar Chico says:

Larry Grant never gave up on that play and knocked it out… Cheers fellas!

Merry Christmas to you all, I’m off to my folks house for some festivities..

  94. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

    Merry Christmas everyone

  95. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Nice pass by TJ on that 4th dn. Tavaris sucks! Pete Carroll needs an appt. with the Iceman for his decision to make him his QB. And that 3rd dn call at the 1 should be punishable by the death penalty in all 50 states and the Bahamas.

  96. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Fuckin’ A. A win in there is a win. Larry Grant is a beast. As much as I get pissed at VD, he made the plays when it mattered. Same with Crabs. He made the clutch catch to get the game winning field goal. The D is better and better. Just wait til Willis comes back.

  97. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

We’re 12-3, we just won a tough division gm on the road and Denny still finds a way to take a shot at Smith. Denny, you’ve reached cartoon status around here in terms of people laughing at you. You are worse than your Chief-loving mother. You’re both fucking traitors to the team…

  98. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

This won by tough guys: Grant, Gore, Hunter, Miller, Bowman, Justin, Aldon, Crabs, Davis ,and the toughest QB in football. Not pretty, like I said- tough play from tough men..
And a pretty tough kicker, too.

  99. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Merry Christmas fellow fans!

Wheew, that was a close one. 12-3!

    Score differential was two points, 19-17. I had 20-10 a 10 point spread or 8 points differential = 20-19= 1; 17-10=7. 7+1=8.

How do other folks figure this?

    Cheers my friends!

  100. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

“Bold prediction for the day: not only does “Beast Mode” score the 1st rushing TD vs our D this yr, he also goes for 100+ yds.”

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Here’s a sugar cube for ya: Gore and Hunter combined for 156 yards. Want another?

      Final score 19-17.

And a lump of coal: Del Mar 3-12 in the reality league

      Yeeehaw!
