From there, it’s off to the pet store I guess. He and BA may never play another snap on the NFL.

I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

In the horrendous interview that Buster did last week (if you didn’t hear it he looked BAAAAAD) he said this about the closer role going into the season (paraphrasing from what I recall): We had hoped that Walker would fill that role.” So when he couldn’t, and there was obvious data last season to suggest he sucks, what was Buster’s plan going into this season for a closer? Just fucking HOPING Walker could do it? He is so far in over his head it’s frightening.

Not only does Minasian seem like a good candidate for the axe but a deserving one to boot. I doubt Posey will get the axe they will probably just give him another inside job.
Just thinking about the ’85’ team yesterday I realized i still feel bad for Jimmy Davenport. I don’t know how he was when he first came up but in my lifetime he never was a good hitter but he sure did have a glove at 3rd. I was real glad when Jim Ray Hart came in and took his place.
Hart was one of Loo’s favorite players (mine too) and he feels the same way I do about how Hart was dissed by the Giants, despite how well he played while with them. Davenport was the sacrificial lamb, insofar as that ’85 team was concerned.

Well, if Giants DO start trading guys away, hope they do better than Posey did last year dumping off Rogers and Doval. In Rogers trade they got back Jose Butto, who pitched 20 innings gave up 10 walks with high ERA. Also Gilbert, who is barely above replacement level and B Tidwell who might be best of bunch but still in Sac.
In doval trade he got 4 guys back including Jesus Rodriguez, a DH level defender anyway who is hitting barely above Mendoza line and couple AA prospects (Harber and Vrieling) who are couple years away.
Sure nothing wrong with who you traded away, but returns in both deals very light as of year later.

After they lose tomorrow to take over being the cellar of the west the dismal season can’t end fast enough and for Berger, 49ers OTA’s are the only game in town which is less boring to hear about then the Giants..

Nice bomb by Gilbert, knocking in Eldridge for a ribbie. I was laughing though about Eldridge waiting at home plate to congratulate Gilbert, i.e., he must stand at least a foot taller than Gilbert, maybe more, looking down on Gilbert to shake his hand. lol 🙂
Often when a team is non-performing like this, stories appear like “the manager has lost the team”, “the clubhouse is 26 players, 26 taxicabs”, “the joy appears to be gone”, etc. Did this manager ever *have* the team? Do these players really not like each other? Does dumping Gatorade buckets and dry humping fellow outfielders after a game indicate joy? Or just childish “who gives a fuck” vibes? This is just not a serious team. It might not be Vitello’s fault, but he’s also clearly not the guy to pull it together. Not that I loved that Billy Bean movie, but I did appreciate the scene where Brad Pitt turns off the players’ boombox, scatters shit all over the clubhouse after another loss, and says “This… (silence)… is what losing should sound like.” Hard to believe the players don’t care, of they do, they must. Something is missing, man, and there’s no end in sight. Someone needs to step up and throttle these guys.

Eldridge said in Chron today everyone is still good and trying to figure out how to get out of this. Doesn’t seem to be any clubhouse issues and nothing reported from outside. Hard to figure they’re this bad.
Wonder out loud if Padres, who are hitting .218 as a team with worse OPS than Giants, would take Arraez back. They always seem stocked with prospects Preller trades away. Tatis Jr. has started ton of games at 2b with cronenworth on IL and just hit his first HR of the season. Arraez would be their best hitter and playing great 2b.

It’s funny that the bullpen is one area where Buster seems to have decided to think “modern.” Throw together some arms with a good stuff and/or a previous few competent seasons. Odds are that enough of them will come through over 40-60 innings a piece to provide a bullpen that at worst won’t determine your team’s fate one way or the other. As for the closer, Walker was good in 23, great the next year. He had an off year in 25, but still showed the 96-97 fastball and nasty slider. The bet on a return to form for Walker doesn’t look any worse than signing a Melancon.
After two bad nights in Colorado, the bullpen ERA is still a very respectable 3.70. The starters’ is 4.80. The latter have given up 42 bombs in 300+ innings. The bullpen’s one big problem has been the 100 walks in 200 innings.
