When the Music’s Over . . .

. . . turn out out the lights.

This season looks like it will fade into oblivion amid injuries, blunders, and overall indifferent playing.

Yeah, the Niners are fairly notorious for starting seasons with turmoil, drama, injuries, QB issues, and the occasional hold outs, and hold-ins, but we are in serious trouble now.

The fresh turd to hit the wire is that hold-in Brandon Aiyuk is done for the year with a torn ACL. Looked pretty bad live, and I didn’t think there was much hope for him, but it is confirmed. Teh crowd sure got quiet when they showed the replay.

But, hey. It’s the NFC West. It’s our turn to be the shitty division, so there’s at least some hope that we can stagger down the stretch with the other stragglers and win the thing at 9-8. This of course is predicated on Dallas crapping out next Sunday night.

Both these teams are ravaged by injuries, so we will see how this pans out but the Sunday Night Halloween Special will be the walking wounded meet the walking dead.

Brought this over from the previous thread Chuck. –

I just don’t know what Shanny is trying to do. Nothing he trots out has much of surprise element, with the possible exception of the Purdy sneak.

    Maiocco got it right –

Shanahan and his staff have not come up with the right answers enough times this season. And this was another case of the 49ers being out-performed all the way around.Spagnuolo continues to out-scheme Shanahan. The Kansas City defenders had the upper hand against the 49ers, especially on third downs. The 49ers converted just two of 11 third-down attempts (18.2 percent). And the same goes for the 49ers’ defense. Kansas City’s offense was anything but prolific, but it still managed to move the chains on eight of 14 third downs (57.1 percent). And, then, there’s special teams.“We’re going to keep coaching them,” Shanahan said, adding on special teams the 49ers will “continue to work at it and not ignore it.”

    Grade – D

Now we know why Shanny ran CMC into the ground last year. No one else could score.

Lost BA for the year. This happens time and time again especially at the skill positions, x player holds out or in to force a bigger payday, doesn’t practice or play in camp/pre-season and signs shortly before the deadline. The player is out of shape, ineffective and invariably gets hurt.

That needs to be factored in with negotiations from both sides. What’s the point of eventually getting a last minute deal done if the team signs an initially ineffective player with a high risk of injury and on the players side looking like shit and losing game time exposure to enhance their reputation.

As for the game, that was really atrocious. Low energy, unimaginative showing with piss poor ST again which is 6 games in a row now. Chiefs D had their way with the 9ers O in every facet and made Purdy looks like shit. Chiefs got 186 yds on the ground.

This team has way too much talent to turn in an effort like that. Kyle better get his act together and his team playing like a team by next Sunday because a loss to the Cowboys means the 9ers are pretenders this year.

The D played fine till they just got gassed. The Niner D was on the field the entire 1st half. But they were getting pressure and forced a couple INTs.

The fucking missed extra point was even a big deal. That led to KC being up 2 scores early in the 4th quarter instead of only one. But the fucked up route by Bell was huge. That pick took away the possible lead for the Niners.

    Shitty game all around.

  5. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Gotta appreciate what Spags does at the line. Fills every gap, showing pressure and keeping Purdy guessing.

Us? Same look almost consistently. No wrinkles, no imagination. Drives me insane.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Early on we showed 8 men on the line and we did cause some confusion. It led to the first pick.

They have good CBs and they lean on them to cover. It’s our short zone that gets exposed weekly.

This is a shitty year, blame goes around to everyone, Kyle had better come up with some creative play calling, IMO he goes all conservative cause of the rookies. The 4 man front is not working consistently. Do something different, how hard can it be. The Niners won 2 in a row, 3 peat was yelled to the high heavens, and they lost that year in the playoffs? Also there was a year the Niners went 15-1 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. So shit does happen in football. Think about this, what if there was social media in the 80’s.

    Deebo apparently hospitalized with pneumonia.

He’s looked lifeless to me Chuck.

Got his coin and figured he arrived in prime time. The new vehicle thing just frosted my ass in terms of ‘look at me’.

    Too nonchalant.

      Me too NJ.

At 7 games in he’s been largely a decoy and not even a good one. Stats wise he’s a shadow of himself, Jennings has way outperformed BA for pennies on the dollar. How many real games does it take to prove his worth?

It’s moot now but all that BS and then badly underperformed, now he’s gone for the year with an ACL and an MCL, no guarantee that he 100% recovers and it won’t be until this time next year anyway.

I feel bad for him getting injured but the 9ers got screwed, BA gets paid for injury.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Cap strangulation too 12th. Almost forces other large contracts to be eliminated to retain Purdy.

Total ClusterF* in terms of team chemistry.

SB window is looking like a brick wall now.

Lose to fat Mike and Shanny’s seat is going to be getting much warmer.

Stupid penalty gonna give AZ the game. Harbaugh going nuts.

  11. Winder's avatar Winder says:

We are toast and it doesn’t look promising for the near future even if we have McCaffery out there. Defense will just key on him and we don’t have the backups to make a difference. Looks to me like we need to clean house and get younger again. I think we still draft fairly well since Peters left so there’s that. If we have to eat some of Aiyuk’s contract that is our fault. Even with the injury some team will take him off our hands. Same with Deebo. I would keep Jennings. We lose enough games we might get a decent 1st rd pick. Can’t fight age no matter how are you want too. We need help at almost every position both lines and ST should be high priority. Most of us here have been through this with the Niners many times.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

I would still like to see Kittle make the 10 year window. He will go down as one of the great 49ers.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We ain’t gonna get rid of both Deebo and Aiyuk. Maraag is good at cap manipulation so there’s hope they can back load some deals but they need to do a better job hitting the top of the draft. They need to protect Purdy.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

You are probably right. But if either of them don’t show the productive stats that their contracts are worth it’s still a business. The kind of injury Aiyuk has is never a given especially at that posistion and age just might be catching up to Deebo. Earlier this year I voiced that I wanted to keep both but not so sure now.

Yep. Very poorly called game. I said it all day. 3 times we had 2nd and 2 or less and failed to convert. And I thought the 2 point conversion was the way to go. Then our kicker du jour clanks the XP. That one point was huge down the stretch.

This team isn’t getting any younger and Shanahan isn’t getting any wiser.

I really don’t know what Jed and Co will do, but Shanahan’s tenure here should be in jeopardy.
