And Now For Something Completely Different

Hey, if no one wants to talk Giants, I get it. And since the Flap is on hiatus, here we go. But I just have to say I’m really disappointed by Buster Posey’s sentiment that lends creedence to the statement that the Giants cannot sign free agents because of the negative image of San Francisco.

BULLSHIT!!!

Ever since the Stonehams dismantled the great teams of my youth, the great teams of the late 60s and early 70s, they have been crying about not being able to sign free agents because of:

The weather
The taxes
The lifestyle
The politics
The freaks and hairies
The dykes and fairies
The ballpark (the Stick AND Oracle)
The wind
The parking
The housing prices
The rent
The poop

Now we have Buster saying “crime” like LA is a bastion of civility. Philly is candy-land. NY is utopia. Houston and St Louis aren’t the most crime-ridden cities in the country.

Yay, we signed a prayer type guy in Jung-Hoo Lee, a Korean ball player who is solid defensively in CF and pretty much a doubles hitter. Will he hit ML pitching? This is a big unknown, but the kid is young and we NEED young fast defenders. So I like the signing even though the consensus is Korean ball is somewhere around the AA-AAA level.

But they NEED to go after Yamamoto or Bellinger or Montgomery or Strohman or Bader or Hader or Chapman or Hoskins or any number of guys who can help this team NOW. Otherwise we have another season of praying the pitching somehow holds up through having 2 great starters and a back end of middling relievers.

This guy’s stuff is pretty good breaking down our plays.

And the first play they show goes a lot to dispel the notion that Deebo is a poor route runner. His adjustment to that throw is key to the completion.

I like the Jugn Hoo Lee signing a lot he’s has a great personality and adds the youth (25) this team desperately needs! Solid numbers in Japan hits well, doesn’t strikeout much, a plus defender with speed and GG (6 times?) he will add excitement and will be the leadoff hitter day 1..
Now they have to ALL IN trying to get Pitcher Yamamoto( also 25)a STUD who along with Lee would make the transition for both much easier on the Giants for them for communication purposes and selling tickets and merchandise!

Also WTF to compete with the Dogpile/Dbacks more go after hard for Snell as well cause a dominating pitching staff of Webb,Yamamoto,Snell& and a developing young Harrison would be so special!
I’m all in for Chapman too at 3B still an elite GG defender who has RH power with a Matt Williams attitude who he would be hanging out with as well win-win!!Hey they have money to blow let’s use it god dammit!!!

Chuck- That was a great post and I agree with most of it. I think taxes have a lot to do with it. But the crime is mostly bullshit. True there are a lot of homeless people but they are everywhere now. In the town I live in there are 2 homeless shelters and a converted parking lot covered with tents that is home for a whole lot of people right now. I feel sorry for em the weather here is not nice to be outside we have 9 months of winter 2 months of summer and a month of decent weather. This is all 3/4 blocks from my house right after the county jail and the parole office. So far I have never had any trouble with any of em. My guess is upper management are just stingy tight-wads.

kat-It sure would be nice to haul in 3 or 4 more top end FA’s this year since our farm system doesn’t move very fast.

Baggs talked about Posey etc. in TA, part 1 of his mailbag column. And what Posey said was the “perception” of what SF was like as promoted ad nauseum by others. Interesting read.
I drove up to SF Sunday and missed Niner game (radio in 4th) for basketball game at gym near J Town. Rained most of way up from south bay and traffic was heavy past where Stick used to be, so lot of folks were on way there.
Got off 9th street exit, missed fell but went across town on Ellis (!) to Laguna, up to Geary to park in J Town Mall Garage, walked over to Sutter across Peace Plaza. Lot of people out and nice day after rain cleared, as it often is in December.

Baggs in Part 2 of mailbag today did indicate Giants shopping at top of FA market for pitching, whether they get Yamamoto or not. Hopefully they land at least one, maybe 2 and get rotation going behind Webb.
Doubt they had legit shot at Ohtani anyway–seems like he wanted to stay local. But plenty of help still out there.

Thanks, Winder. It’s jut real disappointing to hear Buster say that shit when he could have said something like what Kerr came out and said. Especially when he’s moving his family back here from GA.

This team HAS to sign someone just so they can prove they can. Otherwise we’re gonna get the usual middling to shit guys on make-good deals who will be gone in a year.

Yeah. harrison looked green and wild. Luciano can make the plays, but the hitting?

We will see. Same with Lee.

They still have a LOT of work to do to make me feel like they are actually trying to compete with the teams in their division.

    New thread is up.
