Game Day Lucky VII – Fig Newton Time

Lucky? Who knows? The last time the Niners played here, it was an epic shootout between Tom Brady and Colin Kaepernick. The Niners built a 31-3 lead, pissed it away, but prevailed in the end with a late 40 yard TD from Kappy to Crabtree and won 40-34.

Today? I have no fucking clue. Instead of getting healthier, we are getting hurter. We lost both our starting safeties Tartt and Ward to go along with the rest of the IR brigade in the defensive backfield and all over the D line.

Speaking of defense, we are up against another mobile running QB, so our work is cut out for us. Cam Newton is their leading rusher, so we have to spy his ass. We cannot afford to give up large chuck plays, especially on 3rd down, to bootleg runs, and read-option type plays. Of course that is easier said than done. Passing, Newton is a little less scary with his 2 TDs, 4 picks, 9 sacks, and being the 29th rated passer in the league.

The hope is we can get some pressure on Newton and force a couple picks of our own.

So I guess that means we need to score. And score a lot. And it looks like our walk-on UDFA Frank Gore impersonator, James Hasty, will get some meaningful minutes tomorrow. The Jet has been playing like a Piper Cub lately, so I think Hasty will get some good long looks. He missed the hole on one of his late runs last week, but for the most part, he looked good. The game wasn’t too much for him to handle.

Yeah, we are up against Brian Belichick. But Brian without Tuck-Rule Tom has proven to be less effective. He doesn’t have a very high-powered offense, and his defense is middle-of the -road as well. But we are really hurting. Especially on defense. But since I think we can out-score them, we should win in the end.

This one will come down to special teams, and who makes the least mistakes. How ’bout them Dodgers? Hah! What an awesome end to that game.

    Bill….Chuck
Master of the NFL head games IMO.
    He always plays chess.
    He’s always prepared
Can our braintrusts be trusted to give him a challenge?
    We shall see.

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Mike Shanahan always gave Belichick fits. Hopefully his son follows suit.

  3. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Great game last night, best ending I have seen in a long time. Unless the Pats trip over themselves we are gonna have to do a lot to win. With all their injuries on D we have to play mistake free football for the whole 60 minutes. Not sure we can do that.

  4. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Brian B is still a good coach, I just don’t think he has the players anymore to execute,. The only thing NE has over the Niners are healthy players. Can the 2nd and 3rd stringers come out and play like last week? Who knows, will be exciting to watch, a lot of Yahoo’s and a lot of WTF was that.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

TE’s don’t do well against NE, at least Kelce and Darren Waller of the Raiders were held in check.

So we have to scheme other guys, move Kittle out wide or circle him out of the backfield.

  6. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

That is exactly what JG needs to do if he wants to be the QB next year

  7. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Nice drive so far

  8. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    That was nice

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Let’s hope the defense is up for the challenge.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Don’t get conservative! Hate it when we constantly waste 1st downs.

  11. Winder's avatar Winder says:

one step forward two steps back

  12. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Aiyuk

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Some nice passes by Jimmy early.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Spoke too soon. So much for mistake-free.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We’re hitting on D at least.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Still need to attack. Can’t go conservative.

  17. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I wonder what’s up with the Jet and hasty

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Jet has looked beat up. Hasty I thought I’d see more of.

Too many mistakes and penalties. But we are up 7. D needs to keep up the pressure.

  19. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Wilson looks like the lead back today with 10 carries already for 47 yards not bad..

  20. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    Wrong routes run or JG

  21. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

There you go. Warner is a stud. Hell of a play.

  22. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

    Alright Fred! Great pick!
    Let’s go get more points!

  23. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Wilson running with fury, just bullying NewEngland with power runs!

  24. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    There you go. Nice blocking.

  25. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Jooooz

  26. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Love it. Hasty looking Frank-like.

  27. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Wow fucking wilson

  28. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Jimmy called out of the play for that. Great job.

  29. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Wiso just carving up Pats defense 14/92 yards 2TD’s throw in Hasty with a few big runs as the OL is dominant right now!!

  30. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Cam can’t hurt you if he don’t have the ball

  31. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Wish Jimmy threw that further.

  32. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Right about now B Belly is wishing NE had not traded away JG

  33. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

And how embarrassed should C Newton be, going against 2nd and 3rd string guys.

  34. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    WIsh Jimmy threw THAT straighter.

  35. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

This injury thing they have going is un-fucking-believable. I’ve never seen anything like it or even close. The finally get a back to step up and grab the spot with authority and scream, “I ain’t coming out, ever!” and he fucking goes down. Snake bit, absolutely snake bit.

  36. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

    Newton looks like he’s finished.

  37. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

It looked like a calf for Wilson. Hopefully not another goddamn ACL. Feel bad for the kid. He was playing his ass off and with attitude. He looks like the real deal to me, big, strong, shifty, good foot speed.

  38. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Wilson looks out for a while.

  39. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah it’s brutal LJ ! What a game Wilson was having 3 TD’s 112 yards 32 fantasy points which I’m sure no one had in a league but still. Most TD’s in a road game since Roger Craig, nice company to be acknowledged with…
Fig Newton with another pick wow he sucks!
Guess he will look better in one of his pimp suits after the game atleast ha ha

  40. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Juice is having a hell of an all around game.

  41. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

With Deebo and now Aiyuk, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be going to their wideouts more often. Each of those guys has star potential. And, as if on cue, Deebo goes down. What the fuck.

  42. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The NFL has to outlaw artificial turf. Guys get hurt doing nothing.

  43. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

I think it’s time to pull all the starters. This is ridiculous. They have a big enough lead. If Deebo’s injury is serious, I’m going to shit. And yes, get rid of that fucking turf.

  44. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

I will never ever understand running the ball when you are down 4 TD’s.

  45. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

I don’t care if it is a backup QB

  46. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Hasty is explosive as well, quick with great feet and shiftiness.

  47. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Didn’t see a 49er blowout coming. The Pats clearly aren’t very good right now, but still a very nice and dominant win on the road.

  48. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yup. 3-0 on the east coast. 1-3 at home.

  49. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Wilson got his ankle rolled. Could be bad, won’t know for a few days. Deebo’s hamstring could also be a problem. Those can linger a while.

Great game, Great Win, and the Injury Fairy fucks us with the sandpaper condom again.

  50. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wilson’s ankle got rolled. Don;t know how bad. Didn’t look good, though.
Deebo was a hammy. Didn’t look terrible, but I have no idea.

  51. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Let the Cardinals and Seahawks beat up on each other tonight. Seattle cannot be a 6-0 team.

  52. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

After that Miami debacle, I’ll take the last two weeks. Good job of bouncing back.

  53. Winder's avatar Winder says:

This was a great 49er win and classic Shanny. I honestly didn’t think our defense would be so good today. Makes you wonder if and when everyone gets healthy again.

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Like if they had an actual pass rush. It’s hard not to wonder how good they could’ve been without not only the injuries, but injuries to their most important players.

  54. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Were we good, or was Fig Newton just terrible? We did stop their run game, and even their QB run plays didn’t kill us. The pressure was decent, and the coverage was solid for the most part. 4 picks isn’t a joke.

Great game all around though. Except for the motherfucking Wilson injury. Deebo as well. Haven’t heard anything yet. Warner was outstanding. As were Juice, Kittle, Aiyuk, and Deebo.

  55. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

First year without Brady, what a fall off in play, and C Newton, wow, what happened to him

  56. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Reading some of the NE blogs, and they are all over Belichick for not going after WRs in a WR-deep class. The Pats have no offensive weapons and little talent.

  57. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Arizona coach is playing like Kyle usually played, down two scores and running or throwing short passes, stupid play calling

  58. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Seattle loses

  59. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

All of the teams in the NFC West are over .500. None of the NFC East teams are even close to .500. We could end up 11-5 and be in last in our division. That being said, our whole division could make the playoffs with 2 new playoff participants this season.

    Crazy.
