48 Hours . . . 24 Hours . . .

. . .and I still have no idea which way they go with this draft. The Foster situation muddies the creek even more, so I got no idea. Thing is, the BPA at 9 very well may be Tremaine Edmunds, a guy who can play ILB or OLB. Seemingly a good fit. I guess. A bunch of prognosticators have him coming to us, anyway.

With Foster’s freeze out at this point, the Niners may still have to cut bait with him, but the thing is, they won’t know anything about Foster until way after the draft, so do they pick Edmunds anyway? Fitzpatrick?  Beyond that, Edmunds hasn’t raised any of the red flags that Foster did so he’s clean in that respect. Plus, the Raiders want him, so maybe we could work out a deal with them.

But we need help at CB and guard. As I said before though, with all the QBs flying up the board, Nelson could possibly fall to us. Denzel Ward stands a better chance of reaching us, but Roquan Smith feels like a bust to me. Too small and unable to disengage. Chubb is my most wanted piece, but I think we’d need to deal up to get him. Again, though it depends on all these QBs and when they go. Barkley is a solid lock to go in the top 6, and there are teams like the Bills and Dolphins that want in to get a QB, so the trades could be fast and furious.

Darnold, Barkley, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen for all intents and purposes are the top 5.  Then you have Nelson and Chubb. I think that’s the top 7 on Thursday.

The guys we likely have a shot at are Edmunds, Fitzpatrick, D James, R Smith, or D Ward.

Since we nominally addressed CB with Richard Sherman, I’d go with Tremaine Edmunds. Get guard hel later in the draft. Then get a CB.

There you have it.   Clear as the LA basin on a Friday afternoon.

Hey, we could blow all this out of the water and go for the guy I wanted a couple months ago.

WR Courtland Sutton. Might be a bit of a shock, but this team has drafted for defense these past 5 drafts. But, the last offensive guy in the 1st round was (urk) A.J. (urk) Jenkins (threw up in my mouth a little). Offensive . . .

The 2012 draft was also Baalke’s low water mark.

    • Nipper says:

I bet they draft for the defense first. Offense will come later in the draft for the Niners. Still we should expect some surprises from Lynch and his men.

  2. Winder says:

All we’ve been hearing is bullshit for the last 3 months. Hard to believe but I found I can hate Kiper ever more than I used to. Someone should just put him out of his misery. Anyway, I hope we move back and get a couple more picks. Edmunds is a very young work in progress and not sure the Niners want to take the gamble. Even though I am pretty sure we take defense first I would like to see us trade with NE and get their lower 1st and our 2nd that we traded them. That way we still might have a shot at Landry, OG, and WR.

    • Nipper says:

Yeah that Kiper is tiresome and full of it. He’s even worse on radio. Blah, blah, blah and so forth.

    • 12th Man says:

I’m with you Winder. The chances of 5 QBs going in the top 10 are zero. The only 2 players I see as top 10 worthy for the schemes the 9ers use are Barkley and Chubb and both would mean spending a large amount of draft capital to get. Therefore I think moving back makes the most sense.

The chances of what I just wrote being the way the draft flows is also zero, but WTF else is there to do but bloviate before the draft?
Kiper can suck a dick as far as I’m concerned, as useful as tits on a boar and as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. What’s with that hair anyway???

      • unca_chuck says:

Don’t kid yourself, 12th. Carson Wentz went from mid 2nd round hopeful to the #2 guy after he played his last college football game. Mayfield and Allen are getting the same ethereal jerk-off from the prognosticators. The Bills and dolphins are looking to trade up.

Best scenario for us is if either Mayfield or Allen make it to 9 and we can deal with one of the QB-desperate teams.

Luckily I’ve stayed away from all the bulshit around the draft.

Problem with trading with NE is they are too far down to get Will Hernandez. I’d like to trade diown around 15. Maybe we could hose, uh, trade with the Bears again. I wouldn’t go below 20 to guarantee we get Hernandez.

    • Berger says:

As much as you and like Hernandez I would be surprised if the 49ers do. 49ers like 300 lb guards. Hernandez is about 335. What I like about him s he moves like a 300 lb guard from all I’ve read.

  4. unca_chuck says:

They;’d be nuts not to get him. This draft is about WR and O line based on what they’ve done so far in free agency.

  5. unca_chuck says:

And I think I’;m spot-on with the top 7. I think those 4 QBs go before 9. Teams are DESPERATE for a QB and the stakes are off the chart.

  6. Berger says:

I would take Chubb or Barkley in a flash but no way the drop to us. My #1 is still Nelson and he could possibly be there but unlikely. If we stay put I like Edmonds, Fitzpatrick, Payne, the DE from UTSA, Ward and McGlinchy.

My preference is to trade back and get more picks. Could still get half of the guys I mentioned. If we trade with the Patriots at 23 we can still get somebody good, maybe McGlinchy or Hernandez. But we would probably have a lot of picks, Maybe the Pats 1st for next year and 2 of their 2nds this year.

“John Lynch says 49ers have first-round grades on 30 players in this draft”

I agree , trade back is a good option !

  7. unca_chuck says:

The Browns, the Giants, the Jets and the Broncos are all-in on a QB. The Bills, NE, and the Dolphins want to trade up. Indy may cut bait with Luck. AZ must know about Sam Badford. They are in the hunt as well.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Dubs move on, but man, do they need Steph back.

  9. Rob says:

    draft day tomorrow

I hope at least three QB’s go early !

  10. Rob says:

49ers webzone is saying MIKE MCGLINCHEY might be our pick at 9 ! not a bad idea ! maybe start him at G until Staley retires ?

  11. Rob says:

My best guess guess for who we pick ninth … Tremaine Edmunds

  12. Winder says:

We still don’t have a lot of depth in many positions. I think we move back to somehow get an early 2nd. I think if we did that and landry is still there we take him.

  13. Badger says:

Lots of young men about to get paid a big stack of paper money.

  14. Nipper says:

At nine the Niners may do anything. Move down to get more picks might be in the works. None of the so called experts has a read. The needs are so great on defense that seems the way the Niners will swing. Offense will come later perhaps to beef up the line. Building depth must be a priority as the big-time difference makers will be taken by inferior teams. The unknown makes this draft interesting. In the end all the predictions may be wrong.

  15. unca_chuck says:

In the end all predictions ARE wrong. Like I said after the first 7, all bets are off.

I think the top 7 are fairly set in stone. The machinations around who gets them is a crapshoot tho.

As is readily apparent there are 7 teams that need those 4 QBs.

Great iteration of Montrose tere. First time I saw him was the Paper Money tour. Saw him w/Gamma and a bunch of other times. Saw him in Orangevale 3 years ago on what turned out to be his last tour.

    Always been a big fan.

Foster redux: Now the girlfriend is recanting. Claims she got into a bitch fight with another girl. Got mad at Foster for dumping her. Threatened to trash his career with false charges. As the football turns in Niner land.
