Word from Ian Rapoport is that the Carolina Panthers are looking to franchise their kicker (!) Graham Gano and let their premier guard Andrew Norwell hit the free agent market. Norwell of course is an all-pro and rated as one of the top 4 guards in the league. The coin would likely be $12.5 mill a year as the last 2 guards who got their coin got $11.5 mill (Raiders guard Gabe Jackson), and $12 mill (Kevin Zeitler, Browns).
The reason being money of course. If they franchise George Norwell. then the Carols have to pay him upwards of $14 mill for that one year. Thing is though, it’s pretty short-sighted to let the guy walk when he’s a top guy, and the Cowboys are set to hand the keys to the bank to guard Zach Martin since his rookie deal is done. He stands to make $14 mill, if not more, himself, so the market for guards is high. And it even gets higher with Quentin Nelson looking to come off the draft board in the top 5.
So, if Animal Farm is really coming out, we’d better be ready with our own bank truck.
On the other hand, the hope is this IS just like 1984 for the Niners.
Caronia has had a checkered past with their franchise tagging process, so seeing them tag their kicker for no particular reason fits their mold. They tagger their punter, Todd Sauebraun a few years back. They tagged, and rescinded the tag, on Josh Norman, who quickly split, they tagged Julius Peppers, who split anyway the next year, and tagged wifebeater Greg Hardy, who was thus suspended for that after one game.
So, yeah, tag the kicker.
Justin Pugh and Josh Sitton are other free agents we should probably consider !
Best news other than having more cap space than any other team is…
Even after trading for Jimmy G we still have a first ,a second and two third round picks !!!
Yup. Very good news.
The dude will only be 27 next year and we could use an All Pro guard. I say nab him if they have the chance, but we’ll see what happens. I’m guessing the Panthers would very much like to keep him.
It would really benefit us to solidify the guard position as quickly as possible and that means FA. Hopefully we get one of those three that rob mentioned. That would change the whole dynamic of our draft once again.
Yeah!
Hey ROB! I found a post of yours in the trash. Not sure how it got there. Odd.
He was robbed!
OMG chuck this has got to be good ! lol
What was it … !
That pic looks good but what the heck is that thing? Looks like it should be on a golf course somewhere.

I can’t fit the helmet car into the header.
Fits well enough to get the idea 😀
I just wish they’d have used the traditional gray face cage and white striped helmet.
Never liked the burgundy/black combo years TBH.
Peters is the guy that threw the flag into the stands? Pretty goddamn funny.
Bit of a head case from what I’ve gathered Chuck.
Guessing the flag toss was the final straw for him, hence the Trade.
We’ve got our own issues (Foster) to deal with unfortunately.
I am pretty sure we will be able to compete with the Rams this year. But peters is a good CB. We need to get one or two in FA and draft another one.
Yeah, there are others out there without the issues Peters has, so we’ll likely go in a different direction.

Sure Chuck I know him from his playing days here in Tampa
yup
We already have a good slot receiver. We need the big one now. I think Garcon is gonna give defenses a whole lot of grief. We need a level headed TO and a RB. The division should be ours if our defense can keep it down to 17-20 points a game. But, that probably won’t happen until next year.
