Good News is No News

The police blotter watch started early this year, and, as suspected since there’s nothing but time before anything happens, the Niners are sitting on their hands as the details are sorted out. If this was October 20, or even late August, the decision to do something about Foster would be in the forefront. But in this age of crazy noise happening every day, the news cycle is in hyper-drive, overdrive, light-speed, however you want to put it, his status is not even a blip anymore. Everyone will wait to see if the Santa Clara District Attorney’s office presses charges, and for what the charges are.

So, other than that, the only news is the 49ers hired Chris Kiffin to bolster their pass rush. Yes, the anemic pass rush that was in the bottom 5. last year. Kiffin of course is the son of Monte Kiffin, architect of the Tampa 2 defense, and one of the top DCs of all time. Chris’s brother however is a mixed bag of squirrelly. Lane was a huge flame-out as head coach of the Oakland Raiders and was fired midway through his 2nd season with a 5-15 record. He burned bridges all over the college football landscape, most notably USC and Tennessee, amid calling out Florida coach Urban Meyer for recruiting violations, which in itself was a violation, and is now coaching the Florida Atlantic U Owls. A giant step down from the heights of the SEC.

His brother Chris has followed a less incendiary path and now leavers the shadow of his dad and brother as the pass rushing coach, taking over for Jason Tarver, who moved on to Vanderbilt as their new DC.

So, all in all, I’d rather be in Philadelphia? Either that, or the hope is this is the last time we have to go through the fun of watching a player get arrested.

Oh, yeah. The 49ers signed center Daniel Kilgore to a 3 year, $12 mill contract extension.

He had an inconsistent year last year, but that can likely be attributed to absolute horseshit play of the guards next to him.

  2. Winder says:

chuck- I read somewhere that Jimmy G like Kilgore and wanted them to resign him. Also, if nothing else he adds some stability to the line. I think it’s gonna take some time to revamp the whole Oline, Staley probably has 2 years left but I imagine he will get hurt sometime during the year. Garnett(sp) is the big question. Give Brown a good extension on his contract and we just might have a decent line this year. I think we will address the situation through both FA and the draft.

  3. Winder says:

It’s funny that after watching Jimmy G last year you just knew he is not only the 49ers QB of the future but that he’s gonna be a star. You didn’t even need to see all the last five game to know that either. Just like I and everyone else knew after that 1980 Saints comeback game that Montana was gonna be our QB of the future and he was gonna be a star,. You really didn’t need to see a large sample size because you just knew it.

    • Nipper says:

I’m glad he’s signed. Now the team builds around him. Beef up the O line, get improved receivers etc. Also improve the pass rush somehow. Niners have a lot of work to do this offseason.

      • Winder says:

Except for the Foster fiasco this should be a very fun off-season. It is gonna be interesting to see just how many(if any) FA come knocking on our door. And the draft will be another story all together. I haven’t got a clue as to what we are gonna do but that is the fun part anyway.

Berger here’s another possible ILB to consider in FA,
    Korey Toomer / LAC – 6’2″/235
Already in the Saleh System, Drafted by Seattle, playing for Gus Bradley in LA. 29yrs old.
Might be a player of interest, at the right price, to spell our troubled youngster Foster?

  6. Rob says:

We’re looking at a WR named Marvell Bateman.
    He’s 6/4 220 and averaged 19+ per catch last year. Holy f…

Shanahan are building. They want to be teammates with Garoppolo. They want to play for Shanahan. The 49ers are officially a “destination.”

There have already been numerous reports of players expressing a desire to join the 49ers. According to former NFL wide receiver Andrew Hawkins, impending free agents want to find a way to get to San Francisco. Garoppolo has even fielded texts from players around the league who are intrigued by the possibility of pairing up with him on the football field. A former team beat writer has even received similar texts.

Add fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who spoke with Joe Fann of 49ers Media during the latest “49ers Studios Podcast,” to the list of individuals who have been hearing about the 49ers as a desired destination. He had an opportunity to speak with players at the Pro Bowl and via text messages.

“I talked to multiple guys who said they were talking to their agents because they want to be here,” Juszczyk said. “I talked to guys at the Pro Bowl. I’ve talked to former teammates. This is a place where people want to be.”

NFL.com recently listed the 49ers as the top free agent destination among teams that did not make the playoffs this past season. San Francisco currently has the third-most cap space according to OverTheCap.com.

Interesting…I like earl Mitchell but i wonder if we’ll upgrade, considering these guys are out there.

    Star Lotulelei (28), Panthers
He possesses excellent short-area power and the athleticism to shoot gaps as a pass rusher. He’s not Fletcher Cox or Aaron Donald, but he could be the missing piece that makes a good defensive line great.

    Sheldon Richardson (27), Seahawks
The talent is irrefutable. The question is, given his history, who wants to make him uber-rich and then hope he grows up?

    Dontari Poe (27), Falcons
The Falcons sold him on their team last year by arguing that their scheme would increase his opportunities to get upfield and accumulate value-rising sacks. It didn’t quite go that way—he had 2.5 sacks on the season—but plenty of teams will still want his combination of size and light feet.

Star Lotulelei , Dontari Poe and Sheldon Richardson are out there ! I hope we add one of them

  12. Berger says:

With the Bears releasing OG Sitton I think there is no way Quenton Nelson gets past them.

    • Winder says:

berger- Maybe but I think they have a kid already to plug into his spot. I think they will go with Ridley. Just to give Trubisky a big target. Or Barkley if he makes it that far.

      • rob says:

Sitton would be a good free agent option for us IMO ! Shore up needs before the draft so we can go BPA in april !

Frank Gore is going to be a free agent

KNBR the “sports leader” keeps the babbling going and of course the frequent ads of “we’ll sell you anything at anytime” policy in full gear. Their broadcasters are mostly talky idiots which passes for sports talk these days. Yakity yak, yak, yak depending on outside voices to bring any “real” information about sports to their audience. When all else fails they love to talk about themselves boring the audience even more.

  16. unca_chuck says:

I don’t listen to much sports talk, but Joe, Lo, and Dibs on 95.7 is pretty good in the morning. Lorenzo Neal has a great feel for the players’ perspective and doesn’t take himself too seriously.

  17. rob says:

They’re saying Andrew Norwell won’t get tagged ! He’d fill a need for us IMO

  18. rob says:

Even after trading for Jimmy G we still have a first ,a second and two third round picks left !!!

  19. unca_chuck says:

New thread. Yes, Rob, it’s about Norwell. I heard that this morning on my way to work.
