I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

I like the guys they are cutting. nd I like the guys they are signing. As I said earlier, Shanny may say he doesn’t want a stopgap QB but that’s exactly what Hoyer is.
Free agency so far is NUTS. Texans trade Osweiler to the Factory of Sadness, aka the Browns. A nonsensical move in my head, but really. The GM loves the deal. For the 2nd round pick.

And oh yeah, we got some QB.
The Texans are trading quarterback Brock Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland. They take Osweiler’s $16 million guaranteed salary off of Houston.
The Texans also get a Browns fourth-round pick (no. 142) this year in exchange for their own sixth-round pick. Cleveland gets Osweiler’s contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland’s 2017 fourth-round pick and saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash this season.
Unreal. There’s talk Cleveland may just turn around and cut him. Or work out a trade (!). Yeah, right. He and Jay Cutler can compare exorbitant salaries for doing nothing.
Osweiler = $16 mill guaranteed for this year

I don’t get why we let Dawson go for another old timer in Gould, but I do like the Malcom Smith acquisition. I was kinda hoping for some more fireworks today but after seeing what some of these guys are getting paid it might be a good idea to wait for the dust to clear. There are still a lot of bodies out there to be had.

Yeah, getting Da Bears castoffs isn’t that inspiring. But it’s still better than Kap and Gabbert.
Not sure what’s expected of Lynch and Shanny. The team has no QB’s and will need 4 for TC. Cousins and Garoppolo both mean giving up high draft picks and mega bucks this year (Cousins probably isn’t available period) or just megabucks next year. Considering the state of the roster, I’m fine with waiting a year and fixing other areas this year. Almost certainly they will take a QB in the draft too.
Which available FA QB’s would you rather see, they are all meh guys as far as I can tell?
I think we fans need to be realistic and have a little patience.
As far as the rest of the team goes these guys came out guns blazing, no waiting for the second wave of FA for them (Baalke), no picking over the bones for a scrap of meat (Baalke), they got guys before FA even started.

I am pretty sure they draft someone but my best guess is it will be a lower down the draft developmental guy and they will wait a year for Cousins or similar.
At least that’s what my crystal ball told me this morning, who knows about tomorrow?

Texans were fortunate to get rid of Osweiler’s contract. Cleveland was very helpful to pick that thing up. Now they can get the brittle Romo.
I am fine with Hoyer and Barkley this year. like I said it’s way better than Kap and Gabbert. KS has a plan and we don’t know what it is yet, so I am along just for the ride.
Yes 12th, this is pretty much what I thought would happen regardless of what Shanny said about the placeholder QB. And me getting ahead of myself amid the flurry of activity.
I think we go after a Zack Terrell type. A 5th or 6th pick. We have a bunch of lowe picks so it is worth the risk. He’s a pro style QB who won’t be learning how to play behind center at least.
Next year, depending on how things shake out, we can make a bigger QB splash.
The thing I like is these guys (Shanny/Lynch) are going hard at this. I got a little giddy and thought they may go after Cousins, but he’s a red herring that will be available next year at less than half the price.
Chuck, I read today Cousins says he will be a Niner this year or next, which adds pressure to the Skins to try to do a deal this year or only get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick next year and end up having a disgruntled QB in 2017 who has already said he is gone next year. Incidentally Cousins ranked 8th overall last year.
The Niners have signed or agreed to contracts with 12 players so far. Of course some are for depth/competition, but as a percentage of the 53 that is a huge number. It really allows for BPA in the draft now which is an ideal place to be. I really am impressed with this approach, its dynamic and aggressive in an effort to be competitive in the league. I have no illusions of playoffs, that would be far above reasonable expectations, but they should be decent even in this first year. I also love that FA players are choosing to go to the Niners, a sea change from after the Harbaugh years.
One more point. Kudos to Jed York for handing over the checkbook unfettered. Not a hint of anything from Paraag or Jed. Just the dynamic duo doing their thing.

I’m really surprised Cousins would say something like that to the press. We’ll see how that affects his standing with his teammates heading into this season. With that, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a Niner uni at all. He’s a good QB and whether it’s as a starter keeping the seat warm while a future draftee develops or not, you could make a playoff/championship run with a guy like that. Overall, I’m also pleased with the way Lynch and Shanny have taken the bull by the horns and well before the draft. Also glad to see Jed staying out of it, which is exactly what he needed to do. Put good football people in place and stay out of the way. Go Niners!
I kinda wish we would have picked up Schaub(sp) but the Skins made him a pretty good offer. Other than that I think we are taking the right approach and work through the draft. I imagine we will pick up some more FA’s before then but probably mostly for TC competition.
Cousins wants out of Washington with his plea to the owner and his public desire to head to the 49ers hoping for a trade. Perhaps something can be worked out if the parties are agreeable. Cousins desire to play elsewhere is a PR nightmare for the Skins. Of course their whole operation is a disaster from the owner on down. It’s like rats fleeing a sinking ship. 49ers in contrast are now like a model franchise even with Jed as the owner.
Not so sure about that, the Skins picked up some good FA’s too.
However, the Skins are also going into this years draft with no GM. That is a little weird.

Well, I think you can trace the fleeing of the ship in Washington straight to the power struggle between Bruce Allen and Scotty McLoughan. With Scotty out, I’m sure the players are put off by it. He has drafted well at all his stops and Bruce Allen has a spotty track record at best.
We’ll see how they do at draft time. should be interesting.I think Mcloughan was the guy who picked Gore and Willis, definitely two of SF’s greats.

Might be a good sign that McCloughan is out of the picture, in terms of negotiating any deals on Draft Weekend.
Bruce Allen will be under Little Danny’s pressure to do something about paying $24M to Cousins on a 1-year rental perhaps?
Cousins is likely taking advice from his Agents, to put it out there ahead of the Draft, to turn up the heat.

Read recently that Danny is holding a major grudge with Shanny Sr and, isn’t likely to do any favors for Shanny and SF.
Cousins’ comments about landing in SF should put an extra kink in his shorts too.
$24M is a very good incentive package to get his attention in that regard.
They can’t sit him, like they did with Danny’s pet RG III, to protect themselves with the ERFA Tag either.
