If last week showed anything it’s that the WC teams weren’t very worthy. The divisional round however brought some very good football.
And of course Mike Nolan still looks like an idiot for passing on Aaron Rodgers. Although Not so Young Sir Alex got close yet again to that elusive Championship game he’s been after since Kyle Williams fucked up so horribly.
I still harken back to the days we could have had Rodgers AND McCarthy but I digress. Rodgers yet again made sick throw across his body under pressure on 3rd and 17 to give his kicker the (2) chance(s) to win the game.
On the flip side is Alex and Andy Reid fell short yet again. Always a bridesmaid and always coming up short. I wasn’t sold on KCs defense but they did more than enough to win that game. Reid and co fell short by going away from their primary weapons in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Pittsburgh is not slouch on defense but there was no adjustment to get those guys the ball more often.
Ahhh well. This just makes us look bad in the end. Both those QBs in the infamous 2005 draft are still playing ar a high enough level to reach the playoffs and at least make some plays. I don’t think Rodgers gets any further anyway, but that was a hell of a game from him yesterday.
Thing is, the team has some players and a shitload of cap space.
But is on Jed and Co to get the fuck out of the way. Which is why getting guys from the outside is so important. Especially at GM. They need to be told that from the outset. Shanahan and Wolf is pretty much a dream scenario to me.
That’s always been the caveat Chuck.
Will Tweeter and The Money Man EVER get out of the way?
Call me extremely skeptical.
Mike Sliver is reporting that Shanahan is ‘almost certain’ to take the job FWIW.
Some good news for Jed anyway –
He’ll be the only circus in town in a few months.
Famed Ringling Bros. circus closing after more than 100 years

Looks like Shanny is in and the withdrawals are because of it:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000775827/article/kyle-shanahan-expected-to-become-49ers-new-head-coach
Jed and his mother are moving with resolve to accomplish their goals…. a new coach and a new GM leading to a new team. Lots of players are going to be either traded away or shit canned in the nearest dumpster. Just kidding. The Yorks are on a mission to resolve their problems on their timetable not someone else’s. Shannahan will be ruthless in making changes with the GM backing him. It’s time for the York’s to kick some butt.
The Yorks have made their fair share of screwups but if we are placing blame on them for their various failed hires, even if Baalke hired Tomsula and Kelly, you have to give credit for Harbaugh and credit for being patient to get the best HC candidate available and they have apparently done that. Now they will put the future HC and the remaining top GM guys together and see which fits. All the remaining GM guys are highly touted football guys.
If they end up with Shanny Jr and any of the final 4 GM candidates the Yorks will deserve credit for spending the money to clean house and bringing in top flight talent to the franchise.
Time will tell. Hate to say guardedly optimistic but really there’s no way to go but up at this point.
Dan Quinn, HC of the Falcons announced Shanny Jr as the next HC of the 49ers to his staff:
http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/report-shanahan-announced-49ers-coach-falcons-staff
Chip Kelly interviewed for Jags HC, then Jags OC and struck out twice:
Chip has his Jed York “Trust Fund For Ex Coaches.”
12th the piece about Gase’s interview tells what the ‘GM’ was attempting to do as part of his job.
He pursued Gase to recruit him as HC.
Pieces that I’d read from various sources at that time suggested it was a ‘marathon recruiting effort’ on Baalke’s part.
What was suggested in that process, was the objection from Paraag and Jed regarding his age.
It was then (reported) as a major objection to Gase wanting to retain Fangio as DCo, and others from Harbaugh’s Staff.
Which he admits to in your linked article.
My rose tinted glasses have always been in support of football guys over Tweeter and The Money Man.
Baalke delivered Harbaugh. Paraag didn’t get along with him. Hence, Baalke screwed it up?
I despise that alignment of Paraag sitting alongside the GM in this current structure.
It seems others in this current hiring process cite the same concerns.
It’s going to continue to be ‘a lost cause’ for any GM that comes aboard, until Tweeter and The Money Man step away from football Ops.
It’s dysfunctional at the core.
I’m going to go to bat for the next GM too, just as I have for Baalke, simply because I don’t agree with the current pecking order.
It seems I’m not alone in that line of thinking either, as reports suggest Caserio/McDaniels didn’t want to deal with Paraag’s level of involvement as well.
It is what it is in any media report, much of it ‘unnamed sources’ with lots of innuendo, speculation, and opinions.
Nothing changes for me.
Tweeter and The Money Man are pulling the strings, and lighting the fuses, when things don’t go their way.
If not hiring Gase hastened Baalke’s departure, then I’m glad it worked out this way. Baalke’s drafts are legendarily bad. Baalke has the worst track record of all the GMs in the league these past 6 years. Bar none. His job is to draft and sign free agents. His inability to do anything for the offense year after year was baffling and it killed the offense. We have needed WRs for 3 years and we did nothing but pick up table scraps and hope one stuck. None did. The ACL fuckups were gravy to the shit stew.
When (if) Shanahan shows up, my hope is we get Mike Williams. Get fucking Hoyer as a free agent. Cousins isn’t coming here unless ewe blow our wad for him, and he ainlt worth the money,
Chuck our problems will never improve, so long as Paraag sits between the GM and the Boy King.
Firing HCs, year after year, will continue to fuel wasted Draft classes when regimes are constantly being changed.
We simply need the football guys to have more football guys provided to the mix, while removing the Minions that are stirring up controversy.
Reports were made that Jed was in favor of McDaniels.
McDaniels was said to balk at having Paraag over his shoulder, same with Caserio.
Young Shanny becomes the flavor of the month by default.
If Jed doesn’t remove Paraag from this power structure, (which he was reported to have done already), we’re doomed to see this dysfunction continue with the new regime in waiting.
Shanny may have some luck with Ponder over Gabbert and Kaep too.
Another QB I’m interested in is playing on Saturday, in E/W Shrine game, if you have a chance to partake.
Cooper Rush / Central MI – 6’3″/230
Remember the Niners are way under the cap. That makes their situation way more attractive than the Raiders when they hired their GM. Al left the team with lousy and expensive players and a bad cap situation. So just handing the power to all football guys without regard to the finances doesn’t work well either.
NJ, the Ponder situation was handled very badly. But that falls on Chip and Baalke as folks who didn’t want to expose the fact that the QBs were terrible. Chip saying ‘this isn’t tryout time’ when the team is 2-11 is ludicrous. It should be tryout time to see what he has to offer. Chiop knew he was gone and therefore didn’t give a shit, but that was more dirt for his grave in the en.
Marcus Rush is another fuckup among a year of them. He was by far the most disruptive pass rusher in preseason, but Baalke didn’t want to start the UDFA in front of his shitty draft picks, even 12 games into the season where the pass rush was anemic. For all the bullshit from the front office this year, the coaching staff was dogshit as well.
Jim O’Neill was an unmitigated disaster. They would play about 4o mins of decent football and 20 minutes of the ole! defense. The O was proficient for about 15 minutes a game. I get that they were devoid of talent, but still, if they played complete games, they would have had a much better record.
People here seem to think that Jed told Balke what to say and do, maybe, but I doubt it, look at all the shit Balke gets blamed for, he gets fired and does not point fingers?? He is either very loyal to Jed or he did make all the decisions. I think it is the latter. I don’t really care who gets hired first, just get two guys who understand today’s NFL.
I think Baalke made the decisions all along. NJ has theories about Jed telling Baalke what to do but people who are named and in some cases speaking for themselves say otherwise. There is a vast difference between theories and un-named sources and people who were directly involved, are named and are speaking for themselves.
Baalke the football guy cost this franchise at least 3 years of shitty football with his egotistical “I know best” bullshit.
So glad that asshole is gone. Now they need to keep Marathe in his defined area of contract negotiations, something I expect Shanny to insist upon, and hire one of the 3 remaining guys for GM. Wolf just withdrew his name which likely means his colleague Gutwhatever is the pick over Wolf at least as far as GB is concerned.
I like McDonough (sp?) from AZ but not too concerned either way, they are all the brightest candidates. I’m same as you Kevin, don’t care if its HC then GM or the other way around, just get a decent talent evaluator.
Bingo, Kevin. At this point it looks like they got the best coach available. GM?
Well, as long as he can stand up to Jed, I’m fine. That’s all we need. The last 3 GMs came up through our system and were beholden in some way to the powers that be. Them being Baalke, Scotty, and Teflon Mike the Suit.
An outsider will hopefully be able to stand ground against the weasels in the building.
Speaking of Teflon Mike, I bet NoFear is thrilled to hear that Mike may get the Jags LB coach job.
Wolfe is out!
Looks like we’re getting his coworker Gutenkurts
Just think another day without Baalke. Bring the fresh air in. The Dow is up. Trump is are our leader. Well nothing is perfect. Part of Chuck’s bags came through. Now to get Jed out of town with his sycophants in tow. The campaign must continue. Mama York must crack the whip!
New thread is up.
