Should they stay or should they go?

Since we have  almost reached the merciful end to yet another lost season, the sentiment around my abode is, what now? Do we burn the fucker down and start from square 1? Or do we try to rejigger the front office together from the scraps of a misbegotten group?

Here’s what we got:

OWNERSHIP
Denise DeBartolo York Co-Chairman
John York Co-Chairman
Jed York CEO
John M. Sobrato Co-Owner
Mark Wan Co-Owner
Gideon Yu Co-Owner

EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT
FOOTBALL OPERATIONS
Trent Baalke General Manager
Paraag Marathe Chief Strategy Officer and EVP of Football Operations

BUSINESS OPERATIONS
Al Guido President
Hannah Gordon General Counsel
Brano Perkovich Chief Investment Officer
Scott Sabatino Chief Financial Officer
Patty Inglis Executive Vice President

As much as that OWNERSHIP group needs to be jettisoned, we have no reality scenario where that happens. Stripping Jed of his toy would be most excellent, but I don’t really think Daddy and Mommy Dork will usurp the young drooling one. Sobranto Wan and Yu (aka Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe) are not on my radar and I have no idea the pull they have within the front office machinations. Which is a problem in itself.

The EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT team is where we need a whole new group. Baalke has turned from Exec of the Year to  Doormat of the Decade as he has overseen the mass exodus of talent from the team while wasting stockpiled picks on ACL guys, shitty punters, and little help to the team’s roster. Paraag seems to be the biggest fly in the ointment. His stink has been all over the team going back to the Nolan days when he was supposedly helping with red flag rulings. He famously challenged and unchallengeable look at a field goal and it cost the team a game, IIRC.

The BUSINESS OPERATIONS group? Who knows? Al Guido sounds like the right guy for the job if you are building a parking lot in Trenton New Jersey, but running BIZ OPS? Fuck it. Anything associated with the big stink coming out of 4949 Centennial Blvd. should be canned.

I’ll deal with the coaches later.

  1. Nipper says:

Baalke still sucks and Jed must go. Grab a hot knife and attack the butter immediately!

  2. unca_chuck says:

Kappy gets the Len Eshmont award. I guess the team wasn’t fractured about it.

Still and all, happy trails . . .

  3. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, for whatever small bit it is worth, the team is fully behind both Chippy and Kappy. Seems very odd to say the least for a 2-13 team.

    The takeaway? Fuck if I know . . .

  4. unca_chuck says:

Mitch Trubiski, a guy that some draftniks (Walterfootball for one) have us taking in the 1st round (if we don’t get the overall #1) of the draft played pretty well tonight in the Sun Bowl. Some other draft boards (CBS sports.com) have him going to Cleve at the 1. A #1 QB? I think not, but I didn’t see Wentz flying up the board like he did last year either. Not that this is a deep QB class, but Trubinski is behind Kizer and my guy Deshaun Watson.

BTW, so sad to see St. Jim drop the Citrus Bowl. If he ever gets a quarterback . . .

    • Nipper says:

Yeah the QB play in these college games suck. It’s painful to watch at times. Plus there are too many bowl games…..way too many.

  5. Winder says:

chuck- I think the only take away is we have cemented a losing mentality. Unless we have some earth shattering news in the next few days I’m afraid we are in deep shit. The only way to dig us out of it is to totally clean house and hopefully we can clean some of it off.

    • Nipper says:

When the leadership sucks the results are predictable……..lots of losing. Niners are just the latest example.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, it’s hard to figure what the hell is going on. The front office is a mess, the team stinks on ice, yet the players are behind the coach? We are young and thin as hell. But there have been some decent stretches on both sides of the ball.

Still and all, we suck, and we don’t have enough talent. We have a front office miasma of execs and bean counters who have no football knowledge.

There IS young talent on this team that need direction, and the new GM needs to hit a draft, and this team can easily be in the 8-8 range.

Parity in the league has proven this over and over. Speaking of parity, this is about the weakest season of football I’ve witnessed as a fan. There aren’t even enough QBs to fill the 32 starting spots.

  7. unca_chuck says:

Hey, Skeebs is bemaoning Kappy’s award. Like the closet racist that he and his ilk is. As is Kevin Fagan? Boo hoo. Figures that one of the ex-players would stand against it. BEt they had to dig for a while to find him and his trailer. Even a semi-decent D lineman who’s claim to fame is, uh, playing on a stacked team. NoFear quits on the team!!! What a pussy! Ha ha! I’m sure he’ll come back to the fold if we draft a white QB.

Maybe they should ask Frank Gore if he’s disappointed. Or Bryant Young. Or NaVorro Bowman. Or Steve Young. Or Joe Montana.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Give your award back, Fagan, if you are so ashamed.

  9. NJ49er says:

Glad you scrutinized the infamous ‘Corporate Tree’ Chuck.
It’s embarrassing that the business is Football, and we lack any recognizable football guys in said ‘Tree’.
I’ve beaten that mule to death and, still can’t understand the blind arrogance the York’s take to addressing it.
Keep firing football guys while keeping the wannabe’s in the power structure.
    Genius!
    Said absolutely No One.
One thing Jed, (or Dr Daddy for that matter), has failed to figure out is, that football guys make football teams run with little or no intervention from the Ownership sector.
Put good football people together, pay them well, provide them the needed resources, STAY THE FUK AWAY.

  10. Winder says:

I wonder if Jed is practicing his speech. Maybe he’s doing it in the Cabana. Whatever, Just when I think I can’t get more pissed they just keep putting more stuff out there.

Chuck- the Eshmont award is a prestigious 49er award. To give it to a player that can’t do his job correctly is an indictment on how fucking shitty our team is. Hell, I would give it to the equipment guy before I gave it to Kap. He is not a good QB in so many ways.

    • 12th Man says:

Agree Winder, Kap was not deserving of it. The players vote on it so it looks like politics over football to me.

  11. 12th Man says:

If the leak machine is still working then it looks like Kelley and Baalke are walking the plank hand in hand:
    http://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/102073-schefter-49ers-expected-ways-trent-baalke-chip-kelly/

  12. Berger says:

I’ve defended Baalke but have no problem seeing him get the axe. His disdain for a front line NT makes me think he doesn’t really understand how 3-4 defense works. His hiring of Chip Kelly is not a good thing for the resume. I would fire Trent and Chip. We need a culture change.

    • 12th Man says:

Lets hope its not another “league wide search” and that they really do find a decent GM/HC combo from outside the franchise. A football exec (Carmen Policy type) couldn’t hurt either.

  13. ewisco says:

sorry charlie, watson not impressing me. maybe a bad night throwing?

  14. NJ49er says:

We’re still stuck with Jed as a consolation prize however.
Either way, just get football guys into the building and let them do what they need to do.
    What an eff’n mess.

    • NJ49er says:

How many more HCs are they going to pay to fish?

    • 12th Man says:

I don’t just want football guys NJ. Baalke was a “football guy”. I want good football guys that are up to date with what the league is doing in this era. Parcells style of football is long gone and ultimately doesn’t do well with todays rules and bias towards the passing game.

It takes an extraordinary roster and driven coach to make the Parcells style football compete today and the Niners are a long way from that.

They need a consistent QB, a NT, an OLB pass rusher worthy of the name and at least one viable WR. With those 4 players and a modern coaching staff this team would be competitive overnight.

Not that I’m making light of the difficulty of obtaining those players, but if the GM (Baalke) automatically discounts free agency, and uses limited trades and then only for more wasted draft picks it is never going to happen.

Baalke had a decent draft last year which he should with 2 high picks. Buckner looks good to very good, Garnett looks average to good. Beyond that not much stands out yet but its early to evaluate.

Sunday night/Monday morning can’t come quickly enough for me.

      • NJ49er says:

12th I’m afraid the York mantra has been do things ‘Cheap’.
I’m fine with cleaning house so long as they get more football guys and less Moneyballers in the FO.
        The Yorks are EVIL.

      • NJ49er says:

Let’s not discount Parcells too quickly either.
His disciple Belichick is still handling the game just fine.
It still begins and ends with a QB that can do more than run the plays that are called.
Play Defense, run the ball, and above all, score points on Offense.
At least we’ll be entertained yet again with another Coaching turnover. SMFH.

  15. 12th Man says:

To steal a phrase from our banished compatriot, Happy New Year ya mooks!

  16. unca_chuck says:

Nolan was a football guy. There are plenty of lousy football guys.

Coughlin would be a great start. Get him to oversee the whole enchilada.

Phil and Buwwit are screaming for attenttion. Buwwit is back to posting old shit from 5 years ago.

  17. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, they are reporting Chip and Trent are gone. Jed banished? We’lll see.

  18. Berger says:

We have some decent talent and a ton of cap space. We can be competitive by next year but not with the ‘football guys’ we currently have.

  19. ewisco says:

to nj9er comment earlier, not sure if it’s belicheat but someone on the pats can just flat judge talent. they consistently let people go who you would think they shouldn’t and they consistently find someone to fill holes. i believe that saint walsh could just flat judge talent and that’s what made those 9er teams great. i don’t think it’s a “school” thing as much as a gift. needless to say we don’t have it. and it didn’t look like the raiders had it until just recently. and in the end, that’s what it comes down to. i have no clue how to identify those people in advance. davis at least drew upon madden and other sources for picking mckenzie. who does jed have? and to be clear, it’s jed’s fault that he doesn’t have resources because he’s never tried to cultivate them.

    • NJ49er says:

Jed thinks Uncle Eddie rubbed off on him somehow ewisco.
He figures it’s in the genes I guess?
He’s nothing but the minion Daddy wanted him to be,
Slap a title on that melon head of his and everything ‘just happens’ in SF.
They removed every qualified football guy they had in favor of making changes, Corporate-style.
      They suck.
Here’s where we are. All over again.
Now all those profits are being used to send former HCs to all expenses paid vacations.
      Clueless twits.

      • ewisco says:

my point was that someone on the pats can judge talent. and that’s the key. not who owns what. and jed does suck. but if he wants to unsuck, he needs to find someone who can judge talent and i don’t think that’s very easy or else everyone would be doing it.

    • Berger says:

Is it possible having Tom Brady around helps some? Kind of like when we had Steve Young. I’d sure like to find a way to get Sam Darnold in the 2018 draft. Maybe keeping Trent and Chip is how to accomplish that. Jeesh, never mind.

      • ewisco says:

there’s no doubt brady helps. but he was a third round pick who had no chance of getting playing time until what’s his name went down with the chest injury. remember that. it was all “woe’s me” in NE until, oh look. and bill traded for steve so it wasn’t much of an accident like brady was. not that brady was an “accident” but he was clearly unrecognized as the QB of his generation.

      • unca_chuck says:

6th round . . . but Brady did play his way to the #2 after passing 2 other guys.

  20. NJ49er says:

    Happy New Year Gents –
Let’s hope the pain train in SF gets back on the rails this year

  21. Berger says:

It is my opinion that the one person most responsible for our current situation is Jim Harbaugh. He saw the demise of talent coming and didn’t want his legacy hurt so he scorched the earth to get his ass out of here. He said he felt the 49ers left him. I feel he not only left us but did as much damage as possible on the way out. It was to make him look better. He is an egotist, zero doubt about that.

I like the idea of the Shanahan combo next but I liked Ericson, Nolan, Singletary, Harbaugh and Tomsula. I am definitely not the person to ask who should be our next coach. I just hope if he is as good as Harbaugh he is sane.

  22. unca_chuck says:

Jesus, Bergs. You are all over the place. Harbaugh was Harbaugh. Of course he saw the shit that was about to come down. He didn’t see Borland and Willis retiring, but he certainly had an inkling that some of the guys would be jettisoned, like Gore, Culliver, etc.

However, Jed and co have made stupid decision after stupid decision since they tied their balloon to Baalke back in 2014. Sure, he’s part of it, but Baalke has been drafting shittily before during and after Harbaugh’s tenure. His shitty drafting is WHY they stopped talking to each other.

Jed stepping on the Gase hire, and the latest carousel with another coaching staff is yet another indication of a clueless front office.

In other words, Harbaugh’s effect on the team is long gone. This is a fresh new stink.

  23. unca_chuck says:

Eric, you are right. The Pats have a front office that does its job very well.

But the buck starts and stops with Belichick. He runs the draft. He makes all the personnel decisions as well as the coaching. Without him, there’s no dynasty. . . .

    • ewisco says:

that could be true but someone clearly can judge talent. and all that matters is that everyone else gets out of that persons way. the biggest problem is getting enough leeway to show that you CAN judge talent. it’s not always obvious (see oakland). and of course, how do you prove you can judge talent until you actually do? whatever, the jed/john/denise need to find someone who can do this. and best of luck to them.

  24. unca_chuck says:

Happy new year, folks! Glad to see this one end.

  25. unca_chuck says:

Fucking Buwwlit is willing to give Jed the benefit of the doubt if he fires Chip? Gee, where do you draw the line, skippy? 7-25 is what? Progress?

Now there’s someone a few bricks shy of a load.

  26. Winder says:

Happy New year all. We just finished our move off the rock and now am back on the west coast. Not in CA but in OR. And it’s fucking cold right now. Totally agree on finding a someone who can spot talent. It probably will take some time (and a lot of luck) but I am not gonna give up on the team. I would be thrilled if we could actually draft a promising QB and WR. That would be a good place to start.

  27. unca_chuck says:

Cool! Yeah these winters have been clear and butt cold lately on the west coast. A hard rain is coming.

Yeah, for all the naysayers, everyone was in the same state of mind in 2011.
Even my rosy scenario had us as the WC at 9-7 and one playoff win.

Parity is the coin of the realm and it takes massive stupidity to be consistently bad. Hello Cleveland.

But here we are again of the precipice of the great abyss with no clue what the 3 stooges (Dr. Dork, Denise, and Jed-boy) are going to do. Let’s hope it is to hire a competent guy to run the football side and let them be.

  28. Nipper says:

Getting rid of the Yorks would be the best move. They are totally clueless when it comes to football. Jed is a weak leader at best. His “win with class” mantra is so childlike it’s laughable. At press conferences he looks out of his element. Basically he should be in charge of counting paperclips and leave it at that. The evidence is clear, the Yorks really don’t have a clue about hiring anyone for football. How can they hire good people when their record in this matter is so poor?

  29. ewisco says:

so i guess the hot rumor is firing both baalke and kelly. i’m not saying that the chipster is the best thing since buttered toast, but why not let the new GM make that call? it’s all fine and good to say “fire that guy”, but who are you going to bring in to replace him? unless you stick with gamble, you’re going to have to take a flyer on some junior GM and elevate him. Who does that guy have in his circle of trust that he can bring in as a new head coach? and it’s not like this is a dream job situation anymore, so getting people to return your call might be harder than you think. yes, there’s only 32 of these jobs but i would think long and hard about coming here with the state of the FO etc. And who does this new head coach have in HIS circle of trust that he can persuade to come here as the OC and/or DC? by the way, i would look long and hard at our current DC (who’s name escapes me, that’s how much impact he’s had). But again, you only fire him if you know that you can get someone better. i hear the ryan brothers are available :).

  30. Berger says:

Baalke has been fired. Is Chip next?

  31. Winder says:

    Can Cleveland pull this off?

  32. Irish Kevin says:

What I want to see is better draft picks, quit taking players that are hurt or recovering from an injury!! Balke has to go, that is the bottom line! He has done crap 💩 with the draft!!

  33. alleykat69 says:

    Agree Kevin!
Sick and tired of the “PROJECTS” program under the Balk regime, with the ACL career ending injuries and the wasted picks due to that fucking dumb mindset which has set this organization back even farther!!

  34. alleykat69 says:

Only the weasel that is Pete Carrol call’s a T.O. with 2sec left before halftime expecting the 49ers to punt? when they could just take a knee like they did!! He’s such a douchebag, but it was funny to see Sherman having to return from the tunnel to get back on the field in case they did punt. Carrol’s motivate was probably just to piss off Sherman..

  35. Irish Kevin says:

This is the other thing I don’t like about the Niners. And this has been over the last 10 years, when they get behind in the game they continue to run the ball. Look at Seattle, they went straight to the pass to score and score quickly!! Why oh why is there such love for the running game? It gets them no where!!!

  36. 12th Man says:

The things we think we know. It was Baalke who blocked the Case hire not Jed York apparently:
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/01/01/report-baalke-blocked-hiring-of-gase-in-2015/

  37. 12th Man says:

    Gase*

  38. 12th Man says:

    Kelly fired too.

  39. NJ49er says:

    Here we go again…
“The 49ers plan to hire a coach-general manager team that will work together, a source told CSNBayArea.com. York and Paraag Marathe, the team’s chief strategy officer and executive vice president of football operations, are expected to lead the search to fill both positions.”

  40. Irish Kevin says:

Well that’s a wrap for this year, no, coach, no GM, no QB, can hardly wait to see what kind of a team the Niners put together next year. Can it get any worse?

  41. Winder says:

    OK, I’ll stop now

  42. unca_chuck says:

Fuck. How and why is Marathe even on this team? He’s the fucking rat. He’s Dr. Dork’s bitch. He’s got pics of Jed banging his mom. I don’t fucking know.

We have a guy who knows nothing about football running the team. And Jed does nothing about it. year after year.

  43. unca_chuck says:

Got to say, the Browns played the worst game in the history of the NFL. They gave the game away 6 times and still had to go to overtime to blow it.

  44. unca_chuck says:

This exhaustive search will net one Tom Gamble.

    • NJ49er says:

Not so sure Chuck, now that Chip is taking a severance package to fish.
These 2 fuk’n buttheads don’t have a clue between them.

  45. unca_chuck says:

And bullit, get a fucking life. You are obviously challenged in some way, so I hope you get the help you so desperately seek. Or just shoot yourself in your pin head. You are back to whining about shit from 5 years ago? Good for you. You and Dennis and Flying V should all start the Unca Chuck is my God fan club.

  46. NJ49er says:

That’s been my concern from the jump Chuck.
The MBA Twins are tipping the scales of the football Ops.
Unless they have the stones to hire a guy like Parcells, who won’t be bashful about having an opinion, we’re destined for more of the same BS.
I’m ready to take a sabbatical and head West to annoy the PISS outta Jed and Paraag.
    Fuk banners on planes.
These 2 punks need a beating.
I’ve never seen a professional Sports franchise meddled with like these A$$holes meddle.
Now it’s a revelation to get a HC/GM combination that can work together?
Every team in the League practices this approach and, even though Baalke recruited Harbaugh these 2 putzes found a way to fuk it up?
Amazing incompetence like this is hard to top.

  47. NJ49er says:

They should make a serious run at McDaniels and Garrapolo.
Problem there is, who’s going to negotiate terms of the deal without the GM in place first?
These 2 nipple-heads couldn’t get wet if I threw them off a boat.

  48. NJ49er says:

This is a direct result of Dr Daddy putting his ‘Corporate Minions’ into an environment they are clueless to understand.
    Micro-Management 101.
A$$holes with titles but no fuk’n football mentality.

  49. NJ49er says:

    Bobby Boucher!
    COME ON DOWN!!!
You’re the next GREAT hire on The York’s suck NUTZ!

  50. NJ49er says:

Someone seriously needs to take a 9-Iron to Jed’s Medulla Oblongata too.
My Mama says that alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush.

  51. Winder says:

NJ-I get the feeling that you don’t like Jed. There is a lot to not like. But if Paarag’s job is to be the money man how come we are paying a bunch of losers who are aren’t even with the team anymore. I would say he’s a terrible money man. I don’t really get why he’s involved with the search for the GM. It doesn’t make sense to me. But, I feel much better because Baalky and Kelly are finally gone. In fact it made me so happy that I went and listened to some of my old and favorite gospel music. And that is saying something since I am not religious.

    • NJ49er says:

Winder it has been my contention all along that clueless Owners such as we are dealing with, destroy the Franchise from the top down.
2 clueless twits interfering with what the game is intended to be – Competitive, well Coached, well funded etc.
They’ve micro-managed this team into dust, and still don’t see or understand why.
My guess is, they never will until the stadium is empty on game days.

  52. Nipper says:

“Nothing surprises me anymore…..” Chip Kelly on News Years Day Goodbye Presser.

  53. Winder says:

lol, that’s how happy I am that they are gone

  54. Nipper says:

Wanted GM and HC for west coast team……..call Jed ASAP.

  55. Nipper says:

Warning around the NFL…….do not work for the inept Yorks and especially “Cabana” Jed…..your tenure may be very short. One big OUCH.

  56. Nipper says:

Jed stays and there will be no head of “Football Operations.” Jed is in charge! This next time the GM and HC must be on the same page according to Jed. The doors must remain open between the two.

    • Nipper says:

According to Jed it’s time to get this right! Really? It’s taken all this time and angst and banners in the sky to achieve this thinking? Good Luck with the search for new people.

  57. NJ49er says:

They espouse the rhetoric after all this time that there’s a need for the GM to hire ‘his’ HC yet there are reports already of going after the HC themselves?
If ever there was a ‘cart before the horse’ process, Jed and Paraag have it cornered.
I have no problem shopping in the NE Front Office, as they’ve shown enough stability and winning practices, to earn my respect.
That said, sending these 2 nitwits on a ‘Coaching Search’ is like asking a plumber for a 2nd opinion on a heart condition.
Some of these ‘things’ are not like the others.

    • Nipper says:

Jed is on the phone asking for advice on what to do now.

    • NJ49er says:

      I’ve been trying Nipper.
      Real simple.
Hire football people to run football Ops.
      Then?
Get the fuk out of the picture.
      Golf.
      Lounge by your pool.
      Get a tan.
      Play the ponies.
      I don’t fuk’n care.
      Just get outta the picture!
      Oh, one more thing.
      Take Paraag with you.
They are basically on another scapegoat search now.
      Good luck with that.
Bobby Boucher would fit perfectly with these douchebags.

  58. NJ49er says:

Does it get any more painful to hear the Boy King proclaim ‘You don’t dismiss Owners’?
He’s as clueless as he is entitled.
Scary doesn’t begin to describe it.

  59. NJ49er says:

If Officer Barbrady had a Son, he’d make Jed look like a nuclear physicist.

  60. unca_chuck says:

No way I go for Garoppolo, The price tag is too steep. No one comes out ahead when dealing with Belichick.

    • NJ49er says:

Least of all the MBA Twins.
So out of their league that they actually think this sh!t is easy.
Blame everyone else, fire people, start again. EAAAASY….

      Douche-fuk’n-nozzles

  61. Grumpy Guy says:

Oh come now Chuck. This is Jed the Fucking Brilliant here. He’s no fool. He’ll be careful to make the best deal he can.

Like Hillary did with Lucifer…. *snort*

    We are So Fucked.

  62. NJ49er says:

These morons have succeeded in passing Danny Snyder on the list of most clueless Owners in the NFL in my book.
And, yes Grump – We are all So TOTALLY Eff’d, it’s embarrassing.

  63. Winder says:

We need so much help that I think we should probably trade out of the #2. The problem with that is to get it right take ;patience and someone that know wtf they are doing. My guess is we take a safety at 2.

  64. Nipper says:

It’s January 2nd and Jed should resign ASAP. Perhaps more flyovers with banners will be necessary. Public outcry and empty seats are needed and fans quit spending on unnecessary gear. Quit buying food at Levi’s and quit attending games. Quit paying for parking. Fans that want change will have to make it painful. It can be done if people get organized. If Jed proves he can’t do it as CEO then action not words are needed.

The empty seats are already a thing. The TB game I saw (which I ended up getting paid to see), by the 3rd quarter was 2/3 empty.

And a big no to Trublinski.

  67. Berger says:

Jed said a few years back that form now on we’ll be playing in January. He was right for this year. We played on January 1st!

  68. Berger says:

My first two for the draft are Miles Garret and Rueben Foster.

At least Jed is willing to make changes and face the music that he has blundered.

Let that one sink in folks. Funny how this one rolls off the keyboard and no one blinks.

    Jesus. He’s Jed. Or Paraag.

  72. unca_chuck says:

Et tu, Jed? With Baalke forced to walk the plank, he’s now the latest whipping boy who they can pin the latest series of bad things on.

He singlehandedly stopped us from drafting Prescott, and getting Gase?

Sounds like bullshit to me. The fucking rat is leaking more and more lies out the back door of 4949 Centennial Blvd.

Will this sh!t show ever end?

      • NJ49er says:

Applicants to fill these vacancies will interview in SF just to drive up their offers.
Jed will overpay out of pure desperation.
Sorta like a reverse Rooney Rule.
Force candidates to demand top dollar for their services before threatening to move onto another interview.
Role reversal training. The applicant holds all the cards.

Last guy in wins when Jed realizes no one wants to be in the same building with him.
