I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

Its a reasonable assumption Kap is gone next year and although Gabbert is an ok back up he is no starter. I don’t get why the team doesn’t promote Ponder to #2 and lets see how he does with limited 1st team reps, I doubt he is worse than Gabbert so what’s to lose.
I agree. I won’t say Ponder is the answer but he was the only QB who anticipated routes and threw receivers open in pre-season. I would like to see if we have a something. I always liked what he did in college.

I think our biggest problem is the coaching. I’m not running with the hanging posse on Baalke but he did hire the coach which takes off of the defending him campaign. I’m hoping Chip jumps to Texas in the off season where he can get get paid more than here. It is possible.
Too hard for me to tell if Kelly could be good or not with the roster and 2 inept QB’s but the almost universal second half collapsing, starting right after the half when rested and adjustments are made is poor coaching so there is that.
Kelly could certainly make more money and less laughing stock in college again.
Too bad Sam Darnold can’t come out of college this year to the draft.

For all the grief Kappy gets, he’s down the list of problems with this fucking team. Think Texas is regretting the Osweiler deal? Fitzpatrick and the Jets? The Rams mortgaged their future to a guy that couldn’t beat Kasey Kasem for the starting job. Then again they have Jeff (figjam) Fisher so that’s a big part of their problems.
The league is littered with shitty QBs making bank, yet Kappy is bearing the brunt of the problems with this team? I call bullshit on that.
Gabbert is ranked 35th and Kap 31st, both had a reasonable O line in front of them.
When Kap had a strong supporting cast he fared well but he is not a QB capable of making other players better and is inconsistent with his throws and is vulnerable to even mild pocket pressure, that much has become fact not opinion.
I’m not laying all the blame on Kap or Gabbert or Baalke for that matter, but at 9 losses the results are speaking for themselves. Kap is at best a bridge and IMO not even that.
If it were me I would want to see what Ponder has to offer and see if he is bridge or back up material or just a camp arm. Games are the only real test of that and what can happen, Niners lose more or worse?
Baalke effectively wrote off this season by taking yet another high draft pick ACL warrior and doing next to nothing in free agency. Without quality, available players on the field the product will stink. He did shore up the O line to his credit although Garnet has not been an upgrade and Buckner is learning on the job, but no skill players yet again.
I had a little hope for Tank Carradine back at his old weight and spot but nope, another wasted pick.
The D has improved since they began selling out to stop the run with 8 and 9 man fronts and Dorsey came back but it’s not good. I’m far from sold on O’Neil.
End of season, at a minimum, can Baalke, Kap and O’Neil.
Especially Kap, Baalke and O’Neil. Throw in a few hot dog vendors and turf guys just to show some muscle. Jed has got to flex something besides his pathetic court battle in Los Altos.
If Kap has half a brain, he leaves. Baalke is the weak link.

Chuck I’ve simply been on the side of the ‘football guys’ in this debate.
The York’s have done nothing but destabilize the football side of this franchise from the jump.
Dismissing Scot, Mooch etc, have left Baalke on an island, with Paraag looking over his shoulder as the Yorks’ hand-picked mole.
What Scot, Baalke, Gamble all had a successful hand in at one time, turned to sh!t with all the moves made around them.
It’s been Danny Snyder, Jerruh Jones magnified IMO. Meddling know-nothings that undermine the processes that were functioning well together.
With the track record the York’s have laid, no one with half an ounce of self respect, let alone qualifications, would touch this toxic mess.
They’ve destroyed what was once a model Franchise and, turned it into a punchline befitting the ‘Mistake by the Lake’ in Cleveland.
NJ, first I would argue that you don’t have enough evidence for your theory of a hand up Baalkes back and second, there is no doubt that when Scottie McDrinkie left so did the talent evaluation. Let’s leave aside that for the moment and focus on real world solutions.
Jed slid Marathe sideways so ostensibly he is less involved and certainly isn’t in the booth anymore. Baalke, no matter how you slice it is the GM and his name is on those picks and I don’t think anyone is arguing that Jed is telling him to take all the injured players.
What do you propose to do?
Jed isn’t going anywhere, Marathe is far less involved. The team has diminishing talent year over year, all 4 1st round picks in the first 3 years under Baalke are gone, Baalke had a zero hit draft, what’s the odds of that? These things are not examples of a good GM.
Something has to change and it should be the largely failed GM, how else can you see it?
Constantly defending “the football people” is fine if in fact Baalke is one and at this point I don’t think he is. Being a “football guy” gets you a pass for being grossly inept at your job regardless of claimed but unsubstantiated interference?

I defended Baalke when the roster was stacked, very hard to add playing pieces to that, but that should mean stellar depth right?

12th all I’m advocating is that Baalke has been stripped of qualified assistance in what had been a pretty stable group of evaluators.
Baalke was the guy that recruited Harbaugh if we’re to believe what has been published.
How that ran aground with Ownership is open to speculation but, many reports suggested Paraag didn’t get along with he and Kaep.
More than enough reason for Harbaugh to revolt I’m sure.
I’m not defending the ACL guys in any way, they were somewhat risky to begin with but, as you suggest, with a stacked roster perhaps an injury gamble might have tolerated it to some degree.
What I’m hoping, (right now anyway), is that Baalke and Gamble, working with Chip without interference from Paraag, can correct some of these deficiencies.
I feel that Ownership complicated things further by firing and starting over as often as they have.
Baalke is a lame duck and will likely be moved out in favor of Gamble in the near future.
I just don’t think the York’s can attract anyone of quality with the track record they’ve produced since taking control.
Given the choice of York’s/Marathe, I’m hoping for one more shot between Baalke/Gamble to get the pieces Chip needs to get this mess back on the rails.
1-15 or 1-9 makes no difference to me now, get the higher Picks and see what they can do with them.

NJ, whether you like it or not Baalke made those picks, all of them. Influence or whatever you believe makes no difference. He is the GM, not Jed or Marathe or Santa Clause, Trent Baalke, and this roster stinks after his six years at it.
He is ranked at the bottom of the league and for good damn reason. He went from exec of the year to the basement in 5 years.
I think it’s fair to say that if he was being unduly influenced into bad picks, that he has a pair of hairy ones and wouldn’t stand for having his reputation destroyed and if he did he is a shit GM based on that alone.
Scottie McDrinkie resurfaced even after all his problems and was hired because he is a good talent evaluator, if Baalke is confident in his abilities he could have done the same. Resigning doesn’t hurt a talented person, it usually increases value.
