As an aside, Colin, spend some time in the Tenderloin, or the Oakland projects, or at any number of homeless shelters and donate time and money to the people there trying to make a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged and the disenfranchised. Not standing during the National Anthem makes you look out of touch with the people who defend the flag and what it stands for. In other words, your stance is more petulant and childish than anything else.

RT- actually that is relevant. Alcoholism is a problem with quite a few police officers and much of the problems that Kappy is talking about are from poor decision making. I fully agree with the conclusions you raise, relevant to ROI.
Being the Draftnik/Jr GM I tend to be, I simply analyze the strategy involved.
On a deep roster, with a GM who likes to ‘develop’, I understand how it fits.
These guys get roster exemptions, and time to rehab under better Trainers etc.
I try to understand how Baalke slots his targets etc, to see what he’s attempting to do, piece by piece.
It’s something I get into.
Doesn’t always make a ton of sense but, I also feel that there needs to be a ‘Team’ effort involving HC/Scouts/Position Coaches etc.
I’m simply asking that Ownership interference, and FO drama, not be the distraction it’s known to have been in recent years.
Hoping Baalke can work to his strengths on Defense, while Chip and his Offensive Coaches can concentrate on getting the pieces he needs to make the Offense click.

Kappy@s done as a player. Which may or may not be the goal, but whatever platform he thinks he has goes with it.
I have no idea what his motivation is but the more I think about it the more I think it is the fear of not being what he thought he was.

I agree with both of you. I think he fears he is not all that after all and made certain to grab whatever money is available while making himself as odorous as possible to the Niners.
The success rate is fairly low for drafting hurt guys. At least in Baalke’s case it is. And we lost the ability to take chances with a stacked roster. Due to the fact these picks are being wasted. He has stocked his drafts with tons of picks but is not restocking the team enough for my tastes.
Until we get the proper Offensive pieces in place, starting with a bonafide QB, it’s hard for me to have any expectations beyond a decent running game right now.
Pieces that might have been applicable to Harbaugh certainly won’t impress Kelly.
For now, I’ll be happy to enjoy a developing young Defense and, take a wait and see approach to what Chip can do with the pieces already in place.
High water mark, for me, remains at 6 Wins. Beyond that? I’ll consider it a bonus.

Hard to have many expectations with a 1st year System change but, the OL looks favorable to an improved running attack over what we fielded last year.
NJ- our running game has a concussion and how long will it take our defense to fall apart by staying on the field all day. My guess is not long.
I know Winder, it’s my faith in Tommy and the improved scheme that has my hopes up, by comparison to last year.
Hoping MDavis and other RBs on the depth chart can make some meaningful contributions also.
One minor upside is that the Defense is younger and has been working against the up-tempo Offense since Camp began.
As stated, 4-6 Wins isn’t jump-up-and-down enthusiasm by any stretch.

I’m not as pessimistic as some of you. Going back to GB game, Gabberts second series was actually quality. He made good decisions and they moved the ball and scored with ease.
I know the stat line didn’t show much, but as an offense they were impressive for that one drive against GB starting D.
The O line is lightyears ahead of last years crew, that is the biggest indicator of a better W-L record this year.
Hyde getting injured again is a bad sign, but remember Draugns (sp?) hasn’t played yet and Davis and Harris both can move the ball, Davis in particular looks promising.
The D has yet to have all its starters in, but even without 3 of the front seven against GB they were solid. It looks to me like this D could really be something this year.
Special teams needs a PR/KR, which they just traded for, and Pinion needs more consistency.
I think the team is well coached, does have talent, and will be a bit surprising this year.

Agree, 12th. DeJuan Harris isn’t getting much early season love, but he’s having a nice camp and has looked quick and explosive in the preseason games. With the vastly improved line, all the backs should be able to run the ball effectively.
My high water mark is 9 games. Optimistic sure, but that was when I thought Kappy was actually trying to be a starting QB. Now I’m not so sure. I think 8-8 is doable. But I’m not nearly as optimistic.
I think they will be better than 8-8. Tough to predict what exactly because they are still deciding major starting roles and have yet to play with all their best players together.
The D scheme and players are much better than last year.
The O scheme, so far, is stone age to 21st century different.
The O line improvement speaks for itself.
Need to see it all together to see just how good, but better than last year? Waaaay!
And, in other news, Mark Sanchez has been benched in favor of Trevor Siemian. He and Kappy may both be out of work in a few days.

12th the problem I see with the offense is teams haven’t schemed us they way they will in the regular season. Team will play up close to take away the short passing game. When that doesn’t work for us, they’ll stuff the run. I mean, since they are up close already. Until we get the WRs engaged in passes more than 6 yards will this offense work.
Which is why they took a deep ball shot in the first series, a near completion, to back off the safety.
I have more faith that this coaching staff will not only understand what the D is trying to do but to have answers for it.
This is the first O scheme in a heck of a long time that is dictating to the D, in this case by going no huddle fast tempo. I believe that thinking will also extend into the play calls.
No one in their right minds should trade for Sanchez. Denver will cut him soon.

I think having Kap on the roster and sitting on the bench causes us at least 5 wins. My prediction with Kap on the roster is for about 4 wins. He is polarizing the locker room.

Losing Patrick Willis, J Smith and Borland isn’t a zero sum game, Rob. Those losses, along with Gore and now Boldin, are huge.

Willis was declining, still good but declining and running out of health, Smith was declining and old, Gore was declining and old, Boldin was declining and old. The only shocker was Borland. He was too small for the way he played. His body took a beating. He probably made a good decision.
It’s the nature of the game, players get old or injured and we move on. Rosters are turning over more than 30% every year. The Niners have 4 players left from the SB.
Have to draft or trade for new blood. It’s not easy to replace stars. They have some promising young talent and now they have to prove themselves.
One trade I liked at the time but has yielded very little so far is Torrey Smith. A very expensive decoy that is almost ignored now from that standpoint because of a lack of production. Does he ever draw 2 DB’s?
Let’s hope the new Chip scheme uses some of these guys.
