UPDATE: The 49ers have signed Christian Ponder (who hasn’t thrown a pass in a couple years) to the roster to take Thad Lewis’ spot as cannon fodder.
Well, game one is in the books. Didn’t count, and there’s not a hell of a lot to glean from it, but overall, at least we looked like a football team. Contrary to popular sentiment, we didn’t trip over our dicks out there. Well, not until the 3rd/4th stringers started playing.
Overall though, the line blocked well on runs and passes, Gabby missed easy passes, Hyde, Droughns, and especially Davis, ran all over the Texans defense, Thad Lewis is out for the year. Kaepernick still hasn’t played a down and I think he passed Gabbert as the starting QB.
The DBs looked great until Osweiler left, then they didn’t look as good with the presumptive (and should be) starter Tom Savage playing (the Houstons are going to look pretty stupid when they bench the guy they just spent a fortune on).
Us? Things didn’t look as bad as they could have. I guess that’s a positive.
We can’t get any sort of read on him right now because he’s done nothing to challenge Gabbert thus far.
Whether there’s a physical situation or not, I can’t see them paying his Contract to hold a clipboard anymore than I can see him stealing the starting job in just 3 weeks.
I’m thinking Trade or bubble wrap right now.
If it comes to that, well, we,re fucked for 3 years at least. Unless we get Deshaun Watson. Even then……it’s a crapshoot.
My point is this is the team fucked him over bad when he negotiated in good faith. I certainly get him looking around. Frankly I thought he would go to Denver n a heartbeat. No matter the money. But here we are. Elway banked on that as well and it didn’t work out.
He isn’t getting traded til he gets on the field. If he gets on the field, I think he starts in pretty short order because Gabbert is a stiff.
I guess if Kap is injured there is some kind of conspiracy. Haters will hate. Just calling it as I see it.
Let the guy get healthy and compete for the job. It really is that easy to understand. He is getting paid no matter if he is here or gone. The net result of keeping him or cutting him is zero difference in dollars to the team.
Why would Denver trade for an injured player and pay full price? If he is still injured now imagine how it was back when the trade was proposed. I would imagine if healthy Denver pays the full contract. Not knowing when a player can play discounts any contract. But the haters will hate.
If the O-line looks like it did in the first half last week we will be a good team. Something tells me they won’t be quite as good this week. If we can back up last week’s performance by the starting O-line for the next 2 games this team will go into the regular season with me expecting to have a winning record. Unfortunately, I think last week will not be repeated this week and it will be back to reality.
Fuck, maybe there’s a Christian Ponder in our future.
If Tim Tebow has a Deep Thought, is it a Christian Ponder?
I been saying it ll along, Bergs. With Kappy and a good line we can do well. The defense looked pretty good, but then again, Osweiler sucks. Savage will be starting in Houston by week 6 if not sooner.
IOW it’s early but there’s reason to at least be a little encouraged.
I’m not making any predictions on Kap. I’m rooting for whoever wins the competition. I got off the Kap bandwagon when he asked for a trade but that doesn’t mean I am rooting against him. I still think he can be a great QB but to do that he’ll need to get healthy and get his head right. It seems his head is right. No way to know that without being there. Obviously he needs to get healthy.
berger- I feel the same way. If Gabberts our starter D’ will be foaming at the mouth to get him. And, our O-line probably won’t be able to take the beating.
They announced Kap won’t play Saturday. I reckon his chances of starting are slender at this point.
Funny thing is, in Denver, Trevor Siemian is winning the QB battle over Mark Sanchize. So far.
PFT is reporting Kappy is on schedule to return to action in week 3 of the preseason. Curious to see how Gabbert handles this upcoming game. With competition from CP, and possibly Kappy next week, we’ll see if he can hit a 4 yard fucking swing pass.
And Buwwitt is busy scouring the internets for any article that disparages Kaepernick. He’s like a little dog with a chew-toy.
Davis is finally working with the ones…at RG
Bullitt is a raging pussy, a tiresome little man. If Gabbert can’t win this no contest QB battle this weekend he is worthless.
I prefer Kap but you can’t evaluate what you can’t see.
His own idea apparently

Yeah, thought I saw that last week, 12th. Good move. I think Brown played well at RT. AD may not be ready to play RT, as he got burned on an outside speed rush, but he should be fine in the interior.
Get to see Saturday against a very good D.
Buwwitt;s new chew-toy is Bill Walsh’s insistence on drafting a QB every draft. Well, nope. Not even close.
1979 saw the man draft Joe in the 3rd round.
Uh, yeah. 1980 saw Bill draft that football powerhouse Cal-Lutheran QB Dan Hartwig drafted in the 9th round. Didn’t survive camp.
1981? Joe Adams, a 12th round pick put of Tenn St. 0 NFL snaps. Changed his name to Bryan and became a Canadian Football and music star.
1982? 9th round pick Bryan Clark out of Mich St. played one game, 0 attempts, as a pity draft, being Monte Clark’s son. Changed his name to Bryan Adams and became an MTV sensation.
If you call the Walsh era 1979 to 2004 there were the above 4 and:
Scott Barry, 6th round1985 – 0 NFL snaps
John Paye, 10th round 1987 – 0 NFL snaps
Dorian Hagan, 9th, 1992, 0 NFL snaps
Elvis Grbac, 8th – Hey, a guy who played. 8 years
Jim Drunkenfucker, 1st, 1997 – Stifferoonie. 1 season
Gio Carmazzi, 3rd, 2000 – Turd – 0 NFL snaps
Brandon Doman, 5th 2002 – Didn’t make it out of camp 0 NFL snaps
Ken Dorsey, 7th, 2003 – Dead-as-a-doornail, undistinguished 5 year career
Cody Pickett, 7th, 2004 – 6 games over 2 years. 18-45 Huzzah!
13 QBs in 35 years. Let’s do the math. That;s 22 years that Bill and Co didn’t draft a QB.
1 HOFer
1 with a decent career (Grrrbs)
1 with an undistinguished career (Dorsey)
2 that barely made the show (Drunkenfucker, Pickett)
8 with no NFL game experience.
What does it mean? Nothing, except that Buwwit is an idiot who doesn’t know anything about football, Bill Walsh, or drafting in general.
I’m thinking of changing my name to Bryan Adams and buying some Canadian bacon!
Isn’t Canadian bacon just ham? I think the only time I’ve had it was with eggs Benedict. Shit, now I’m hungry.
You knew someone was gonna do it
The SF Giants have lost so many close games lately it is like they play just good enough to lose. They should change their name to the DeBergs!
You fucking ignorant bastards with your lack of football knowledge, especially when it pertains to the QB position, make me sick to my goddamn stomach.
Chuck said, ” Tom Brady looked like shit last year.”
That preposterous comment doesn’t even warrant my usual witty, sharp and biting retort.
Fucking mook.
To think you people are still holding out hope that Kap will be this team’s savior is rib-tickling comedy. Listen to me, and listen to me good:
Colin Kaepernick is fucking G-A-R-B-AG-E.
Sad thing is Blaine Gabbert is stinks on ice garbage.
And I will be openly rooting that Anthony Davis breaks his fucking neck each and every snap he takes the field. He had to take a year off because he was worried about more concussions.
Boo-Motherfucking-Hoo. His teammates didn’t QUIT for a year. They were still out there busting their hump and risking injury each and every day.
What A.D. did was akin to do what if your grandfather would have done in WWII when he landed on Normandy and told his fellow brothers in arms, “You guys go ahead. I’m gonna kick it here on the beach for a year. I’ll catch up with you guys next year in Poland.”
Fuck that motherless son of a fuck.
