UPDATE: The 49ers have signed Christian Ponder (who hasn’t thrown a pass in a couple years) to the roster to take Thad Lewis’ spot as cannon fodder.
Well, game one is in the books. Didn’t count, and there’s not a hell of a lot to glean from it, but overall, at least we looked like a football team. Contrary to popular sentiment, we didn’t trip over our dicks out there. Well, not until the 3rd/4th stringers started playing.
Overall though, the line blocked well on runs and passes, Gabby missed easy passes, Hyde, Droughns, and especially Davis, ran all over the Texans defense, Thad Lewis is out for the year. Kaepernick still hasn’t played a down and I think he passed Gabbert as the starting QB.
The DBs looked great until Osweiler left, then they didn’t look as good with the presumptive (and should be) starter Tom Savage playing (the Houstons are going to look pretty stupid when they bench the guy they just spent a fortune on).
Us? Things didn’t look as bad as they could have. I guess that’s a positive.
You know him. You love him.
Jesus. What an asshole. The Donald Trump of coaches. You reporters and your questions.
I liked Ponder the year he came out. I want to see what he can do with a coach like Kelley !
Look at him
Well I guess by next year he’ll either have a national championship or be wandering around the dumpster behind 7-11 with a shopping Cart collecting cans and talking to himself really loud lol
Jim lol
Hey I guess Dennis is happy. He was bummed when we didn’t draft a QB early in 2011. Now we have three of the six available . Gabbert, Ponder AND Kap lol
That, and $5, will get you a cup-o-Joe at Starbucks Rob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If we get jake locker we’ll have corners the market on gage disappointing QBs in the 2011 draft.
Look at it this way,
It could’ve been Tebow.
Sanchez is working on a 2yr $9Mil Contract in Denver.
What are the odds of swapping Kaep for Sanchez before the plane leaves Denver Saturday night?
SF pays the difference and takes Sanchez to Backup.
Any other Compensation that might be negotiated would be gravy.
Omg that’s hilarious. Dennis would be ecstatic ! LOL
Just kidding DEL.
I do remember Locker was Spitblood’s man. We just had to draft Locker or we were a laughing stock. Lol
Come to think of it was there a good QB in that draft ?
Andy Dalton and Cam Newton come to mind Rob!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tyrod (Ball Joint) Taylor and Ryan Mallet came from that Class also.
I’d almost rather have Ponder than Sanchez lol
Benefit #1 for Sanchez.
He ran Chip’s System already.
Benefit #2
He’s cheaper than Kaep
Benefit #3
He know how to hold a clipboard
Right NJ
Cam was out of reach but I remember we did like Dalton coming out but ended up with Kap
I’m not convinced Kaep wants to be in SF, simply because he negotiated to leave in the off-season.
He simply didn’t want to leave for less money.
Now, he’s a Tradeable Commodity.
Maybe so
Hey did you know we just signed Christian Andrew Ponder.
So now we have Kap and CAP
Lol
Ponder that!!!!!!!!!!
I was a Ponder guy, btw. I thought he was going to prove his worth in Minn and he fizzled.
Ah, I suffered a computer wardrobe malfunction – wireless mouse died. Did I mention how much I HATE computer wireless accessories? It’s not the first device I’ve lost. They cost a bloody fortune in batteries. Meanwhile I have these USB ports collecting dust. OK, problem solved – LONG LIVE WIRES!
I won’t nitpick Sando’s QB ranking list now, but I will give my primary criticism. If you gave me, Pat The GM a choice: Brees, Romo and Ryan (Sando Tier 2) or Carr, Bridgewater, and Winston (Tier 3) I’ll take the young guns and laugh for the next decade of playoffs. Carr is a stud, point blank. He still has a tendency to make rook mistakes; after a fantastic game, he threw the game-losing INT in the endzone against the Broncs last year. OK, but his Raiders BEAT the Broncs in Game 2. How many teams did that? Bridgewater has AP but did everything needed to win his first ever playoff game against a very good Seahawks club – not his fault his kicker sucks. Winston? – all the promise in the world. You keep your old white guys and enjoy your fantasy league. They’re still good for that.
Sanchez played for Chip last year. He stunk.
Kap had multiple injuries last year and a pinhead coach. I still believe it was the combination of the Aldon Smith’s ex fiasco ( a mistake he may never get over) and his LEFT shoulder injury that did him in. He feared running, especially to his left, which was a huge strength. He had been the most dangerous QB in the league, run or pass, to his left. He’ll be the starter if he wants it. Check that – Kelly wanted Badford and Sanchez over Foles and Tebow. Chip is not the guy I go to for QB selection advice.
Jeff Fisher is 6-15 at making the playoffs. That’s a 28.6% rate. PURE RANDOM CHANCE is 37.5%
Guess what? He’s negotiating a contract extension with the Lambs. Whew – we have the Seahawks and Cards, it’s nice to have one pincushion.
Marvin Lewis is gunning for season #12 without a playoff win.
Buy rechargeable batteries, RTF.
Wow. 3-1 count. Derp!
Sorry that was for the Giants game.
Football can’t come soon enough.
RT that’s my concern in a nutshell with Kaep.
Aldon, Nessa, Coaching not withstanding, DOES he want it?
Seems to me the money was what he wanted.
Otherwise, Denver gave him an out.
Which, as we know, he turned down.
In Denver, he would have what he had under Harbaugh.
A dynamic Defense to keep him in games and, better WRs to compliment his once strong arm.
NJ, Kaepernick signed a team friendly deal with the caveat the team would keep other talent. They didn’t and lots of talent left. He was then trashed by the whisper campaign and eventually benched.
He’s the one who was burned. Twice. I don’t blame him one bit for trying to get out of here. The team fucked him over and left him holding the bag.
I have no doubt that he will do what he can to help the team win. To call him out for being greedy is missing what went down these last 3 years.
Chuck I’d like to see him succeed.
I question his desire to prove he wants it.
We know the ‘team’ consisted of meddlers with an agenda.
It’s the reports of his work ethic that have me leaning away from his desire to win.
No whispers involved there.
It was Romanowski that called him out on that point.
Joe also chimed in on his aloof personality.
Not a good label for a QB in any locker room in the NFL.
27-36-1. And Fisher gets an extension? This is a prime example why they’ve missed the playoffs the last 11 years.
Meanwhile, Hue Jackson ( who was my choice to replace Tomsula) has to beg for a job in Cleveland. GO RAMS!
Yeah, they are in LA now where anything goes and I do mean anything. I always thought they shoulda divided the state, like the Carolina’s.
I still want 60 states, so Californians have as many senators per capita as Wyoming.
Aloof personality? What does that even mean? Most quarterbacks, at least the successful ones, are assholes. Shit, Joe was accused of being aloof. Dan Marino screamed at his linemen all the time. He was a whining asshole. Beyond that, they are long gone, NJ. They have no idea what is really going on inside the locker room. It’s all speculation.
Dilfer and others have said Kaepernick has done his due diligence studying film, yadda yadda yadda. In fact the team has said he’s spent a lot more time with the coaches due to his rehabbing his injuries this offseason.
What does it all mean? Nothing. If the team wins, he can be as fucking aloof as he wants.
Yeah winning solves everything. Kap should take Gabbert. These pre-season games are a good practice and nothing more. Kap knows this and probably will play little in pre-season.
Kap has to actually play for anything to happen in that regard, Nipper.
Kappy’s’ still not throwing. Problem is he looks better than the guy who is throwing.
If he gets IR’ed or some shit, I’m gonna lose it.
Who do you think has the real control over who does or does not play, Kelly or Jeb??
it better be the Chipski
It had better be Kelly. If this is coming from above, then this team is worse off than the Cowboys. And will be for, oh, the next 10 years.
If Kappy don’t play I doubt we win 3 games
Just for fun

Not to change the subject but Matt Cain sure sucks especially in 5th inning. Damn is he bad! The Giants have to find another pitcher this season if Cain can’t get past the 5th inning.
Russell Wilson = Kaepernick in that scenario you paint, NJ. Kaep missed it by one play. Wilson is on a team with a strong defense that runs well. He’s a running QB who has decent but not spectacular throwing numbers. Now that the run game and defense isn’t as good, Wilson struggled. I think they fall even further this year. Did Wilson get worse? No. The team around him did. When there isn’t any blocking, Tom Brady looked like shit last year. Did he suddenly forget how to play? No. All it proves is that a shitty offense has a lot of obstacles to overcome to be good.
I’m not absolving Kaepernick of not needing to improve, but I am saying that he has played at a high level, and can again given the right circumstances.
Kappy does have flaws but at the moment he’s the best QB we have.
Chuck I’m simply questioning the motivation factor with Kaep.
Is it about winning and leading or, hanging on for the money?
No question last year was an aberration.
Nothing made sense, nothing was organized, nothing worked.
However, his desire to be traded has to raise eyebrows.
Whether it had anything to do with the Aldon/Nessa reports we’ll likely never know.
But, if the reports about his film work and aloofness were factors within the locker room, it simply complicates an already shaky relationship with the other playmakers on Offense.
Not seeing uncovered WRs, for example, has nothing to do with physical abilities.
It’s a mental awareness thing.
